New CBA to be voted on will include 17 weeks
hjnick replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What if in the middle of the season all teams had a BYE, like an all star weekend like the NBA and MLB have? Do some skills competitions where the winners get a MIL or something like that. Then you could have the 1 bye week and get it all done in 18 weeks. (17 games + 1 bye week). -
are we overlooking the Lee Evans of this draft class?

Speed kills... Look in the super bowl what speedy WR's, like Tyreek Hill, can do to break down even a great defense. Sign the fastest WR's in the draft. -
Bills potential interest in Pats UFA LG Joe Thuney?

If you get the All Star G and draft an OT to play RT, what do you do with Ford? Backup? I wonder what the coaches and GM think how good of a job Ford did this season at OT. Did he do enough for them to keep him there? On a side note, I think it's great that we can discuss these things. Love pretending to be a GM... I wonder if the Bills have a whole department where all they do is breakdown current and college players to access them just for the offseason and/or if a trade comes up in the middle of the season. -

5 years / 75Mil .... 15 Mil a year for a guard? That seems pretty expensive no? If you are going to pay that for a position.... Get a RT. Then draft a G and/or move Ford into Guard. There are going to be some positions on your team that you just cannot pay a lot of money for when their is a salary cap. Try to keep filling those positions with cheap players or draft picks until they get expensive. I'd rather have a 15Mil WR than a 15Mil Guard, IMO. IMO, Beane is applying Moneyball to this team. Find diamonds in the rough that people do not appreciate and pay them a modest salary to save money for other positions of need. -
Gregg Rosenthal says "Make Josh Allen's life easier"

Very True. Also, Stafford is getting pretty old. Does Detroit pull the trigger and get their next QB?? OR do they #TankForTrevor / #LoseForLawrence to draft next season?? Even with the leg problem, I think Tua has that 'it' factor that great QB's have. (Now that you made me think about it), it's probably time for Detroit to get their next QB. -

True. The only wildcard would be the Giants and if they covet the OT or the CB more. I don't know much about the OT, but that CB... he shut everyone down he played against, even 1st round talent that's going in this draft. On another note, 4 round draft simulation... does this look good?? Doubled up WR since waited to Rounds 3 and 4. 22 Mekhi Becton , OT Louisville 54 J.K. Dobbins , RB Ohio State 86 Denzel Mims , WR Baylor 118 Michael Pittman Jr. , WR USC -

Whoa! I think it would be crazy for Detroit to miss out on Chase Young (should be 2) or Okudah at 3. That dude is a lockdown corner that could be the cornerstone for that defense. And especially drop down to 7. It would have to be overwhelming compensation to move off of him IMO. Now, I think the best/smartest play would be the NYG (even though you said they won't move) to be open to trading with the Chargers to jump over Miami for Tua AND/OR FORCE Miami to trade up 1 spot for your spot. Either way, BOTH the chargers and dolphins WILL be drafting a QB. That leaves the Giants with the same target they would have gotten at 4, which is prob an offensive tackle. -
PFF's Big Board (I know I know, but hear me out)

Speed kills. Look at KC. Want the 2 fastest WR's in this class (as long as they can catch). -
1 Tier, 2nd Tier, 3rd Tier, someone off the street.... I don't care what their tier is. If Beane thinks the guy can help out the team and improve us, I'm all for it. Look at the OLine upgrade last offseason. Most of the guys are not top Tier 1 guys. Most are good players that we got on good deals. We just need to keep improving our overall talent and adding some top tier 1 talent and we will be looking really good.

Speed Kills. Metcalf is FAST! That's why I want a burner WR in this draft (doesn't have to be the first one we take). Wash's WR, McLaurin (sp?) was superfast also and he compiled good stats. I want a receiver Josh Allen CAN'T overthrow...

Yes we need help but why 1st Round WR's scare me

That is much more palatable. Would hate to give up our second to move up. -

hjnick replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good discussion as usual fellas. IMO, before the draft, we need FA's to fill needs, then we can have the luxury to do what we want to get the best value. FA urgent need: WR (at least a WR2 type), DE Preferred: Very good Right OT, DT. With this, I think we address our major needs and can pick what we want. 1st Round: BPA of positions: WR, DE, OT, DT in that order IMO. Do NOT see trading up in the first and giving up picks we need. What I would love to see: Trade our pick to the end of the 1st round and get a NEXT years #1 from a team (plus some extra picks). Then Trade that pick at the end of the first for a pick amongst the top 10-15 picks in the second round and pick up additional picks for this year or next years draft.... THEN we get the WR we want at the top of the 2nd. Plus additional picks to help at the previous spots listed and RB, LB, CB, and another WR. -

Running Backs A Dime a Dozen & Is It a Passing League ?
hjnick replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree with you that much except for one thing for RBs. They wear out fast. Do you really want to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on someone that will already be starting to decline in production by their second contract? I think you are rather looking for impact positions or spots where if you hit correctly, that player a starter on your team for a decade. Look at Gurley and Zeke (there are ppl already saying he has lost a step here in TX(live in Fort Worth)). Spend a 4th or 5th, get a player at 80-90% of the elite player and spend the money on other positions. Also, keep drafting one later in the draft to replenish the stock. -
Running Backs A Dime a Dozen & Is It a Passing League ?
hjnick replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Running Backs are a dime a dozen... It is a passing league.. More like a balanced attack league. The 49ers use a running back by committee, so even though they run a lot, are any of them elite? The 49ers RB's run HARD and punish. Their whole team MAULS the defense and blocks very efficiently. Great schemes. Look at the trend and how the 'elite' offenses are breaking defenses. IMO, it really is starting to come down to 1 position... Tight End. Multiple TE's actually. When you can put the SAME offense on the field and you don't know if they are going to pass or run, the advantage swings greatly into the offense's favor. Kittle, Kelce, Andrews.. great blockers and receivers. Those mismatches are what make those offenses run. Which Buffalo has always been behind the curve on. -
NYG requested permission to interview Daboll for OC - DENIED

Trade Daboll for their 1st Round Pick. -
I totally agree with you that the Offense is still a big work in progress and more is needed to elevate it. As for the line, I think we are a strong RT away from solidifying our line, plus resigning the OLINE players Beane wants to resign. RB, we need a backup that we can pound up the middle. Prob a 3-7 Round pick will go to a RB. TE, we prob will not draft a TE or get one in FA. I think Beane will stick with what we have. Finally, WR. I would like to sign a solid WR (at least a #2 WR) AND we need to get 1-2 WR's in the Draft. Allen needs more athletic weapons. Maybe it is homerism, but when I watch Josh Allen play, I can see why they drafted him. His strong arm helps him put that ball in spots not many QBs can. I think he is on the right path to becoming a really good QB. Just needs to keep improving his decision making and give him more weapons that he can build trust with. Will the record improve next year. Probably not since the schedule will get harder, BUT we should be in the hunt for the division crown. Which is something that we haven't won in a very long time. Just think what our offense would do with WRs: AJ Green, Smoke, Beasley, Tee Higgins.

My Off-Season Primer: Position Group: WR
hjnick replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From last year's offseason, going into the Draft, IMO, Beane will have enough quality depth at positions that he can take BPA in the 1st round. So I think he will sign in free agency: legit WR legit OT legit DE After that, I think he will be trying to resign what we already have (other than Shaq and Phillips). Hopefully that BPA is a DE or WR, with a lean toward WR. -
I really wish we could give Josh Allen some real WR weapons to throw to before jettisoning him. I mean he really has only 1.5 WRs out there... TE's are pretty raw / have dropsies. Josh has such a strong arm, IMO, right now he is waiting for his WR's to break and see where they are going before throws (his arm makes up for the 'late' throw). Just think if he has a full arsenal of WR's and a TE that he could rely to get open for him (or at the very least he can throw it up to them and they fight for the ball).

Position-by-position analysis of Beane’s Statements
hjnick replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good OP. I do NOT want to pay Derrick Henry, but we do need a power RB for next year. (Can you the DH money elsewhere on the team). After seeing Clowney play more, I think he would be a good piece on the team. A great pass rusher makes everyone look better because of less time in the pocket / constant pressure on QB. Need BETTER WR's for Allen to run to. I would like to get a FA and one in the draft (high pick) One of the top 5 hopefully. Keep shoring up the OL/DL. Bills are in a great position to excel next year with the correct new pieces. (Division crown is within reach with more offensive weapons) -
Bills officially have pick 22 in the 1st round
hjnick replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not saying that I don't want him on the team. I just want him for the right price because of the potential headaches he brings. Cleveland had a lot of problems last season and while he wasn't the source of all of it, he was a good chunk of the dysfunction. -

Would you really give up a #1 for OBJ? Dude's a HUGE head case. 2nd or lower. Again, Giants were lambasted for trading him last year... They Giants knew what they had and jettisoned it... (especially after the whole Pitt/AB fiasco).
