Josh Allen "Prove it" Season In Year 3
whorlnut replied to longtimebillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m glad you’re happy that you made some kind of “point”. It’s pretty sad that you get some kind of thrill off of bashing your team’s QB. Good for you... You know what he ranks at the top in? Game winning drives. That’s what matters more than your dumb stats. -

Allen comes from a small town golly gee upbringing. The rest of those guys (except maybe Mayfield) have always had the spotlight and fanfare. -

I think Mayfield is a complete head case who has a massive chip on his shoulder. To me, all he cares about is being a rock star. Darnold just seems like he is in a constant daze and overwhelmed. He has the talent, but I don’t know if he has the killer instinct. We all know about Rosen and his entitled personality. -

I totally agree. It’s foolish to think Beane and McD are going to give up on him and hit the reset at the position unless he totally melts down. -

I think you really underestimate how much Beane and McD think of Allen. This is not a make or break year for him IMO. If guys like Tannehill, Winston, and Mariota get their full rookie deals, then Allen will too. I truly believe Beane and McD are fully committed to him. They truly believe that he can be developed and already possesses traits that can’t be taught. I think those traits are what drew them to him in the first place. It just so happens that he has a winning record in two seasons working with an incomplete offense. Let’s see what he does with good, seasoned players. -

This has long been an argument of mine. Allen never had decent talent around him in his entire high school, junior college, or college career. It can be argued that the talent around him his rookie year sucked too. Last year the talent was way better and he showed marked improvements. This year, he has a legit offensive infrastructure around him so the first time in his life he will be working with an offense that has the pieces to keep up with any team. -
Denzel Mims film room, should we work to get him.

Yeah and the first half should have been better. IMO, Brown had terrible footwork on the one sideline incompletion and his throw to Duke in the end zone was on the money. We should have been up more than we were at the half. The second half was maddening. He played terrible most of the half and then sprung to life again when the game was on the line to tie it. I still think Daboll had a completely atrocious game plan for the second half. He was almost surely playing not to lose. The problem was, Watson and Allen switched in the second half. Where Allen was great in the first half, Watson was even better in the second. Our defense couldn’t stop him. He literally did just about anything he wanted to do. -

Beane forfeited this possibility the second he pulled the trigger for Diggs. Mims really saw his stock soar at the combine. -

This is fair. I thought the moment looked way too big for him in the second half of the Houston game. I rewatched it the other day since there is nothing better to do. You can see it in his eyes. They were as big as dinner plates. That sort of went against everything else he did last year. I thought he stayed composed most of the time, but that moment just got too big. The good news is he’s still only gonna be 24 and he was never drafted as a finished product. He is going to be working with the most talented offense he’s ever had at any level, and he’s gotten plenty of experience the last few years. He has a tendency to improve on his weaknesses and I have little doubt his deeper throws will improve this year. Another poster and I talk all the time about Allen’s clutch ability. He seems to have it. Not all qbs do, but when the game is on the line, we both feel VERY confident he’ll deliver. He has more often than not. You brought up Brady. While Allen isn’t as refined, he has that burning desire to be great like Brady. I just don’t see that with all the other young QBs. Most of them seem to be satisfied with just being in the league. Allen really couldn’t care about anything less than wins. That’s got to speak for something. -

The other alternative is he could have completely fallen apart like Fitz would have or not had the talent to engineer a two minute offense like Tyrod. What do you want from the guy? Haha. Bottom line is people who don’t like Allen will continue to make reasons why he came up clutch in late game situations more often than not. Heck, he even went the length of the field against Houston to tie the game and send it to OT. You can even argue that if Knox or Morse would have made a block on his keeper in Houston territory we would won that game. Another poster in this thread nailed it when he said Allen gets all the blame, which comes with being a qb. But please, for thelove of God, give the kid some credit. It’s really sickening how people bash him to death in this board. -

Did the defense engineer all those 4th quarter game winning drives? -

Aren’t you the same guy that touted Winston as the next great qb? A guy that said we should give up our entire draft to trade up to get him? You lost all credibility with that gem. Nothing to see here folks... -

Make what happen? Bring his team back to win games? You realize that he already does that as well as anyone in the league right? -
They can’t keep everyone. They have to be operating on the idea that White, Allen, and Edmunds are going to be extended. Beyond that, Dawkins will probably get a raise. The casualty in this might be Milano. He’s a nice player, but he’s not an essential player. He isn’t a QB, LT, ***** down corner, middle linebacker, or pass rusher. He can be replaced in the draft.

Internally there’s some love for Tee Higgins

The thing that blows me away about Higgins is how his hands just seem to absorb the ball. It’s so smooth and effortless. With the velocity that Allen puts on the ball, I think this is a trait that could really stand out for Beane. -

It’s beyond hilarious how much people dislike Higgins. His numbers didn’t blow anyone away but they didn’t send up red flags either. His claim to fame is his play on the field and actually catching the ball. -

Another great point. I love Allen, but let’s face it, he’s an area code thrower on deep balls and that’s where a guy like Higgins could bail him out a lot. We already have our burner in Brown, but we need an area code, catch radius guy like Higgins now. -

Spot on my man. Higgins is a technician and has the production to back it up. We worry too much about numbers and ignore what really matters...playing the game. -

Exactly. Which is precisely my point. Thank you for posting this because I was about to post that very tweet. He just catches the ball so well and hardly ever even bobbles it. Who throws the hardest ball in the league? Arguably, it’s Josh Allen. That’s exactly why you need someone whose specialty is catching the ball out front with his hands. Tee Higgins can be that guy. -

Yeah “chief” he did nothing to cause anyone to be concerned... https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.greenvilleonline.com/amp/5008444002 I couldn’t care less who we draft because I trust Beane. He will see the right pick. But like I said, Higgins never was a burner, but he’s a gamer on the field and does his job. Look no further than our own guy Devin Singletary. He “disappointed” with a 4.66 at the combine, but his vision and instincts can’t be denied. Bottom line...don’t get too caught up in workout numbers and ignore the actual on field ability. -

Tee’s numbers are fine for a player his size. If anything he helped himself. Your condescending remarks don’t make you more intelligent than others. They are just opinions like mine. Relax dude... -

Haha. I’m not mad at all. Nice try. Remind me again what DeAndre Hopkins did at his pre draft workout. Bottom line is you either have it or you don’t. Higgins shows up big when it matters. No one can debate that.
