Well you basically just clarified why you want a LB. You’re old. Most of the older crowd still thinks defense wins championships when it’s clear that it’s a offensive league now. Mystery solved!
-
You sound like someone who is bitter because your choice didn’t win the poll. It’s very childish. I just don’t know why anyone would want a LB that has a second round grade. We need weapons for Allen. Both he and Diggs were pissed at the end of the year and were very vocal about wanting more help. And before you throw back with the FA signings, please remember that they are cheap, one year deals and don’t provide any long term stability at the position.
-
What if your fifth ranked WR is still higher ranked than your middle LB? I’m sorry….you aren’t gonna convince me that’s the way to go. We also need a WR as soon as next year as we will only have 2 that are under contract. One of them being Diggs entering his age 31 season. It’s an offensive league and we have one of the best qbs in the game. Gotta keep building around him and not an underachieving defense. Tell me…what on earth makes you think this? If the rumors of Beane wanting to move up are true, you can bet it’s not for a LB. Also…have we even had a visit with him yet?
-
So it’s a reach to get the “fifth receiver” even if he has a first round grade? Safe doesn’t win you Super Bowls. Beane has already said edmunds successor might already be on the roster. He drafted a guy with a third round pick last year and now they need to see what they have. Enough with this defense early nonsense. Time to swing for the fences in support of Allen.
-
I totally agree with this. Beane has been steadfast that they might have edmunds replacement in the building already. A lot of fans don’t want to believe it, but they have no reason to smokescreen that position. Any LB would be a reach at 27 and Beane isn’t about to do that imo. There was a real problem at the end of last year with Diggs and Allen both being unhappy about the supporting cast. Beane know this is an area he needs to upgrade to keep his stars happy. No LB is going to make as much a difference as an offensive skill player or protection. I sorta think this as well. I’ve seen some smoke on Johnston and the bills this past week and you’re right…he’s a traitsy Beane guy.
-
Hearing this makes me think that they might actually be targeting an offensive player. I highly doubt they would move up for a defensive player this year. My guess is this could mean someone like JSN, skoronski, Johnston, or Robinson.

I’d rather just kick him out the door… -
I honestly think those that are so concerned over middle linebacker are either old timers or they have been weened into thinking the only solution to losing a player to free agency, retirement, or injury is to replace them with a first round pick. Im not concerned either. This is 2023. It’s a passing league. We have two players locked in at WR beyond this year and most people are talking about yet another defensive player. Bernard has potential and saw a small sample size last year. At some point, this regime is gonna have to trust their own process and quit trying to push that motto off on us. Give Bernard, Dotson, and spectar a chance and keep loading up on weapons and protection for Allen. I also get the feeling the chiefs and bengals are sitting below us hoping and praying we take a LB. That way more offensive talent falls to them. Nobody is scared if we take a LB. They don’t want us to get more weapons for our generational qb. That’s what will get us over the hump, not yet another top defensive draft pick.
-
I’m not really sure how any of us can think a middle linebacker in the first round moves the needle for this team to get to the super bowl. We need weapons. Weapons that are signed beyond next season. It would totally suck if we took a defensive player that doesn’t scare anyone and teams like the chiefs or bengals sit there and take offensive players that abuse our shiny new defensive player for years to come. Rinse and repeat with some of you. Time to wake up and realize this is the new age nfl.
-
Totally agree. It’s like we have been weened into thinking every time we lose a defensive player we have to replace him with a first round pick. Meanwhile, the offense had needs for an entire year and people are so quick to dismiss that now that edmunds moved on. Doesn’t make sense to me. If you want to add a LB in 2-4, then fine. But enough with all these first round defensive players.

Mike Clay's roster talent evaluation all 32 teams ranked

The fact that you wrote “please don’t ask where we would be without Allen” tells me you already know the answer. He’s doing all he can with a crap oline and lack of weapons outside of Diggs. -

Well said. Completely agree. It’s my fear that they are handling this like they have in the past by signing complimentary pieces on offense and then will go d heavy in the draft again. We still don’t have a boundary receiver outside of Diggs and Davis. It’s the same situation we were in last year at this point. Hopefully they address it with Hopkins or with a top pick. -
This would be horrific. Meanwhile, the chiefs get hyatt and the bengals get trapasso’ top ranked OT.

Not true. He’s got Diggs. The WR ranking illustrates exactly how bad the complimentary pieces are though. -

WR is low, but that just shows how crappy our corp is without Diggs. You gotta think Diggs is the only reason we aren’t a lot lower. -

So basically, we are in the red at every position on offense except qb. Meanwhile, every position on defense is green. Shocker… -
If the draft we're today...

I disagree 100%. They didn’t burn a premium pick on a guy they didn’t have a plan for. -

The chiefs laid the blueprint on how to win in the modern nfl. They fixed their oline and the eagles, who had the third most sacks in the regular season in nfl history, couldn’t touch Mahomes in the sb. They didn’t go out and go heavy on d. They built around Mahomes. Offense is the way to go…not drafting to stop other teams offenses. Ask Philly how that worked. -

I’m “game” as well. Here’s the thing…we don’t need to have a top d to win a sb. Make the o unstoppable and keep the d around top 12-15 and it would be good enough. I’m sure they talked to bernard in his exit interview and asked him to bulk up. They spent a day 2 pick on him and it would be beyond silly to give up this early when we have huge needs on offense. It’s an offensive league. Does one middle LB move the needle that much? We have the best safety duo in the league coming back to pick up the pieces. “Very little choice”? Come on dude. I guess we can’t find a LBer in the mid rounds like they seem to do with offensive players, huh? -

Wrong. They do have one. They drafted bernard last year with a day 2 pick as insurance in losing edmunds. They need to develop him and make it work. Can’t keep dumping into the d and ignoring the offense with premium picks.
