  1. Yep, and Parsons was supposed to test fast as well so not shocked at those numbers. Still think Oweh's a pass for me based on the lack of production and the Maybin nightmares I still suffer from. Hopefully he pushes Phillips and Ossai down the board...
  2. This article seems to suggest that both offers were 1 year, so there goes my theory there. That said, if the difference is only $1.5M, I don't think it really says that much about him choosing to NOT uproot himself/family/ life, learn a new playbook, connect with new teammates, figure out a new city, etc. It's easy to forget that these are people with friends and families and relationships with their teammates and coaches, and comforts and familiarities...
  3. Still a pass from me, but impressive, for sure.
  4. Different spin on this, but both Juju and TY took one year deals (as did Fuller, who wasn’t mentioned and I have 0 idea if Baltimore pursued or not), as opposed to longer deals. We’ll never know the specifics of those negotiations, but the way that that Bal front office operates, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they tried to get those guys on multiple-year discounted contracts. Just a guess, but I’ll say that the contract specifics probably played a bigger role than the QB. It’s not like Carson Wentz or Big Ben’s corpse are destination QBs...
  5. Yeah that’s the biggest issue. And contrary to popular belief, there’s really no set formula, it all depends on the trading partner, your relationship with them, their needs and strategy, who’s on/off the board, what kind of leverage you/they have, etc. Which is a long way of saying that it probably won’t happen. All that said, Pitts could easily go top 5 or slip into the teens, that’s what you’d be hoping for...
  6. I think the competition argument, to a certain degree, holds water -- especially when we've seen Beane actually use guys who would normally be cut to get back some value in trades. But to me, especially this year, I think you go get the stud, the guy you need, the guy that's very obviously going to be a good player at a need spot. Even if he doesn't become an all-time great, by trading up for Pitts, you're all but guaranteeing that pick won't be a bust -- which I think is more than you can say than just about every other player in this draft...
  7. I still go back to how the circumstances of the past year are going to affect everything. The draft is all about what you know, what you think you know and what you can't or don't know, and this year -- more than ever -- the list of things you can't know is crazy long. That's why, under the right circumstances, I still advocate for trading up for Kyle Pitts (those circumstances being: can't afford getting into the top 10 unless someone throws you a sweetheart deal and getting back a late pick or two). We can't know how all of these guys stack up against each other athletically (no combine), but we DO know that he's of the top percentile or two, athletically, compared to TEs historically. We can't know exactly how competition stacks up across the board (different schedules & interconference games cancelled), but we DO know that the SEC regularly pumps out the best athletes and the best coached players on that side of the ball and we know how well Pitts played against them. We don't know how the draft will shake out, but we DO know what our needs are -- TE is arguably a top 2 or 3 need -- and we also know what the veteran free agency pool looks like: fairly deep at DE, CB, G; reasonably so at DT and OT; BLEAK at TE. We also know what the makeup of our own roster looks like, and it's not looking like there's THAT many more spots to fill, so might as well use picks to get a Ferrari in the garage as opposed to a couple more Camrys. Lastly, we can also make a very reasonable assumption that there will be a higher percentage of draft misses this year due to lack of scouting, personal interviews, etc. Because of all these variables, and most specifically the last one, late picks should -- at least from a market basis -- be closer in value to higher picks this season, than ever before (because at some point, the draft is always educated guesses anyway, this year the education is lower and the guesses will start earlier.) So for me, again, if its on the table (and obviously we won't know until it is/isn't); package 1, 2 and a future 2 for Pitts and, say 2 6s. You're getting one of the few known commodities at one of your biggest positions of need and the shallowest position available, who is clearly a difference maker, will help your franchise QB and continue to open up your offense, address shortcomings in the red zone and short down & distance situations and generally be another weapon. Keeping the 3 allows you to make one more informed pick and likely fill a need at CB or DT, and you can use the day 3 picks on guys with upside. That's how I'd do it. A bird in the hand, at one of your weakest positions (both on roster and in availability) is worth several semi-educated guesses in the bush...
  8. There's going to be a LOT of guys where the following could be copied/pasted as an answer for in the coming weeks... This is a guy who will depend heavily on: market and asking price, health, how the draft shakes out, possibly even how minicamps look... Obviously he knows the scheme (and half the roster! 🤣) very well, so he's plug'n'play, but frankly, there'd really be no need for him if we were to get, say, an Alim McNiel or (a guy several of us like later) a Tadarrell Slaton, later. But sure, worth keeping tabs on in case we go other directions...
  9. Torn on him, because he just oozes the type of under-athletic player who always just gets it done. I think as a football player, in a vacuum, I like him, just not as fit in Buffalo. He's similar to Shaq Barrett when he came out, the difference is Barrett went undrafted, Basham will be a 2nd round pick. Easy to take a chance on a guy like that as a UDFA, but when your bookend DE is also more of a high-motor/lower athleticism guy, I just think that's a recipe for problems...
  10. Basham's a bad fit for our defense. Just don't get your heart set on him.
  11. Sorry, didn't mean you were. Just that we could probably go back and forth for awhile on something that in the end, is pretty unimportant and meaningless (pro development/lifestyle/training vs. college, reasons why Knox was benched, etc.)
  12. His GPS numbers are going to be far more important than his straight-line 40 anyway. I get that 40 times are exciting, but while he may not quite have the top gear of a Tyreke Hill, I think his ability to cut and maintain the speed that he does have is pretty rare, and I think it's sort of the secret sauce to what makes 'Reke so deadly. So much about success in the draft is having a plan for the guys you're drafting. If you want this kid to be the Joey Galloway "9 all day long" show, you're probably not going to maximize his potential. I don't necessarily agree with most of this, but this is now a guy who's going undrafted, so like I said, probably moot. No need to takeover a perfectly good thread with a petty disagreement. Agree to disagree.
  13. Putting on a lot of weight in college and being maxed out are two different things. Evaluating guys' maxed-outedness is tricky business, some guys can't keep weight on, some can't even add it, others look like they're thick and yoked throughout and find a way to pack on 15 more lbs. I will say that just looking at his frame, Jackson does not look maxed out. He's thinner hipped than you'd like from a TE, but looks like he could carry another 5-10 in his lower half, and his upper body is not all that thick, despite fairly broad shoulders. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that he could carry another 10-15 in his upper half as well. And frankly, I think that's all you'd need -- I don't agree that he'd need to play at 260, because he'd really just be a glorified WR anyway (why Gruden EVER kept Darren Waller in to block is completely lost on me, but that guy has pooped things that know more about football than me, so I'll digress there)... This isn't a guy that looks maxed out to me, like H2O said, I'd be more concerned about his ability move with 20-25 more lbs on (so it's probably moot)...
  14. No question. Probably free to see though.
  15. One of my WRs, pretty underwhelming for a guy who sat out this year to prep for the pros... developmental TE at best IMO
  16. One of my guys posted in the “not getting talked about enough” thread... probably should look at a love to TE, Darren Waller style.
  17. I really think you're taking "thousands" way too literally. That's a tweaked quote from Star Wars...
  18. MY GOODNESS, tough crowd here! There have been a number of posters who really liked him, this obviously puts that to bed. But sure, let's take 5 pages to debate Jake Fromm having value 🤣
  19. At 5’7??? Hard pass on that for me.
  20. Another great list. I really like Basham, but not sure he's a great fit for us. Reminds me of Shaq Barrett coming out of college and I'd just be weary of having 2 high motor/lower athleticism guys on the ends. I think Basham becomes a good, maybe even great pro, but would like to have a better athlete to balance Epenesa... I think Hunter Long will be a fine player, but I think his 3rd round value is being elevated by lack of talent in the TE pool this year. He might turn into a starter, but I don't think he'll ever be anything special, hard to spend a 3rd on a guy like that when you can replace him with a 5th or 6th and get similar value... Collins is intriguing. Love the size and athleticism, love the former QB background... I doubt we end up drafting him and will be interested to see what kind of player he turns into, I can see a very broad array of outcomes for him...
  21. I haven't watched enough of his tape to develop a really solid opinion, but I mentioned in the Smith-Marsette thread that a great way to make profit in the draft is to find guys playing in "less than ideal" circumstances in college. In this instance, Jalen Camp at Ga. Tech seems to perhaps fit that bill and I've liked what I've seen so far... Here's his pro day data: Height: 6’2″ Weight: 226 lbs Forty-Yard Dash: 4.43 Seconds Vertical Jump: 39.5″ Broad Jump: 10’5″ Three-Cone Drill: 7.02 Seconds Twenty-Yard Shuttle: 4.16 Seconds Bench Press: 30 Reps at 225 lbs (more than any WR in Combine history) Intriguing as a late round pick, for sure...
