  1. It just doesn't work like that though, especially with the depth we have at DE already. Success in the NFL is as much an asset allocation problem as anything else. If you devote too many assets to one position, the rest of them take a hit. Our best chance of "getting to Mahomes" as you say, isn't Rousseau, or Ojulari, or anyone else in the draft -- it's Epanesa and Oliver developing. As for keeping up with Hill, good luck -- that's more of a scheme and communication thing than anything else. The "Rousseau" version of CB that might be available (and also possesses the speed you and many others are looking for) is Kelvin Joseph. He's the CB I want. Back to asset allocation -- you can also beat KC (and every other team) with better offense. So that brings the Moores, Javonte Williams, the OL, Friermuth, etc. into the discussion. You can't draft with one competitor in mind. It's about making YOUR team and YOUR scheme better, not matching up better against one of the 31 others...
  2. You're completely entitled to your own opinion -- I think Samuel is... well I'll just say "not good" to keep it clean and cordial. He ain't it. As for DL, Ojulari was a questionable fit as a DE in our system to begin with. I like the player well enough, assuming his medicals aren't an issue, but I don't think you can double down at DE when you also used your first available pick in the previous draft at that position as well...
  3. Yikes. Outside of Davis, that's a list of guys I'd be VERY upset at drafting.
  4. I’m sure Beane knows the cost and will have the phone ready, but the math looks pretty good to not have to... -Any and all edge players won’t be considered (Ossai, Basham, Ojulari, Perkins, Robinson?) -Left off guys I want no part of (Levi O, Carman, Mayfield, Samuel Jr.) -Left off slot-only guys (Robinson and Molden) -And there’s a number of guys I’m just kinda meh on: Cox, Cosmi, Amari Rogers, Grant, Campbell, Cisco, Bolton -PLUS. I forgot to include Javonte Williams in the “guys I’d want” list My list + williams is 19, and the guys I left off is well more than the 10 needed to get us to our pick. I feel pretty confident that we’ll have at least a few of my guys on the board...
  5. I’d be very happy with any of: -Elijah Moore -Rondale Moore -Nico Collins -Terrace Marshall -JOK -Baron Browning -Creed Humphrey -Landon Dickerson -Wyatt Davis -Tevin Jenkins -Dillon Radunz -Liam Eicenberg -Pat Freiermuth -Trevon Moerig -Jevon Holland -Kelvin Joseph -Christian Barrmore That’s 18 guys, chances are at least a couple will be available when we pick of that list I’d be most stoked with Joseph or Collins, I think.
  6. Yeah I think what I'm saying is separating what "I think the Bills will do" with "what I think of Rousseau" -- there's a TON of biases and assumptions that go into all of that. As a draft nerd, I like Rousseau the player and certainly see a path to him becoming a VERY good football player. As a Bills fan, I can see a lot of reasons why he doesn't make a super logical fit, but a lot of that is also how I would build a team, it's entirely possible the FO is excited about the idea.
  7. I think it's a need too. I also think, though, that they feel comfortable "finding" guys. Look at Poyer and Hyde, one was a castoff CB who'd struggled his first few years in the league and the other was a rotation player that the Packers could never quite figure out where to play him. I'm expecting a later rd. pick or two to be guys they think they can mold into an heir apparent.
  8. An S-ton of wings, a random assortment of light beer and chips probably as well. Merry Draftsmas all!!!
  9. Here's my thinking about the "covering LBs" fear... There's maybe 6-8 in the league who are genuinely a threat: Kittle, Kelce, Waller, Pitts, Andrews... Maybe Geisicki? Irv Smith? Jonnu? Hockenson (sort of?) Of those, we're markedly better than the Raiders, Pats, Lions, 49ers and wherever Pitts lands (barring maybe MIA), meaning even if they have a mismatch at that spot, we should be able to beat them elsewhere. So we're making a draft pick (trading up, no less), because we're concerned about a couple players who may or may not even be on our schedule year over year? Don't get me wrong, I like the big Nickle idea, and see TE matchups as a need too, but if the decision is between a guy like Phillips, who will be able to make an impact every game, vs. a guy that's more of a situational type, I'll take Phillips every time.
  10. Part scheme fit/part reading the tea leaves... I think to get the most out of Rousseau he needs 30lbs and to be more of an interior DE -- a lot like Calais Campbell. I think that's a weird fit next to Epenesa who's a similar win with strength, motor, leverage, inside type. To me, more of a bendy win-around-the-edge guy makes more sense. WRT to his personality -- I wouldn't say it's that, so much as a general disappointment in his testing. I know that's not all there is to a player, but when you've only got 1 year of college tape/production and then you sit out the next season, there's just not a lot to go off of. If I can't see that he's been working his butt off for his professional interview, I just have to question what he HAS been doing... I think Rousseau falls a lot farther than some think.
  11. If you're referring to the disagreement between Royale and me -- I'm not demanding perfection. For some reason, he feels comfortable arguing with me over what MY opinion is. It's not about perfection. It's about being able to see what was coming and being disappointed that my favorite team also did not see that. Think about it this way, you're dying for a burger when you and your friend go out for lunch. Instead, your friend insists on ordering you the fish (which you thought looked awful) AND the soup (which you were very unsure of), instead. And when it comes, you hate it and are bummed you didn't get the burger. That's how I feel. I wanted to get the burger. We needed a burger DESPERATELY. That burger fit exactly what I was wanting. But I didn't get to make the call. I -- regardless of how Royale w/ Chz and anyone else feels about the menu -- get to be p*ssed that we passed on the burger. It makes it worse when what I got was ALSO things that I specifically felt negatively about. "As bad as it can get" is obviously hyperbole. Why he felt the need to drag this thread into a pointless argument is, frankly, a little embarrassing, but I digress. Do I trust the FO, implicitly. Do I reserve the right to be disappointed in their decisions, based on my opinions of players? 100% (especially if their names rhyme with "Croissante Pamuel Brunior")

  13. I don't think Rousseau's a McBeane type, personally.
  14. Less a crush, more a prediction, but I've been saying that we trade up in the 1st for the guy we want. Simply a WAG, but the value at the end of 2 is as weird as it is as one. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised for that trade to be swapping our 2 for another 3... With 2 3s I think there's good depth at WR, CB, TE, OL, big Nickle and 1T -- conveniently all of our biggest needs.
  15. I've said for a couple of days and continue to feel stronger and stronger about this... We'll trade up for whoever we want -- probably in the early 20s. Best guess of players (in a rough/guessed priority order: Phillips, Paye, Jok, Farley Newsome). I love being on the WC for the draft, it lines up so nicely with my day
  16. Very wrong. EVERY team is excited about this kid, he'll be gone by the end of the 5th, I'll bet.
  17. That's not what this thread is about. We're Bills fans, we're talking about the BILLS' pick. This isn't a 2019 NFL draft hindsight retrospective. I had Metcalf as a high first round talent, thought Oliver would underperform as a top 10 pick and thought Ford was a tweener. So far I'm 3-3 on those. FOR ME, as a Bills fan, draft fan and armchair talent evaluator -- passing on the guy we needed TWICE for two guys I wasn't excited about, in the context of the question posed in the OP -- IS as bas as it can get.
  18. Huh? I’m a bills fan, not an “every team” fan. We had a need, and a truly generational player was there to fill that need. Of course I can hold it against the team I root for for for not taking him. That’s silly.
  19. Do I trust them? Yes. Have they been a big reason why we’re competitive now? Yes. if they make a pick that I disagree with will I learn to like it? Probably not. I trust my evaluation ability. The Oliver/Ford over Metcalf debacle is looking about as bad as it gets and in haven’t “learned to like it”. My hope is that I’ll at least be able to see the line of thinking that led them to whatever decisions they make.
  20. I've settled into the perspective of just not wanting us to botch the pick. I have my favorites (Phillips/Farley/Newsome/Paye in a trade up, Ossai/Oweh/either Moore in a trade back, JOK/Harris/Etienne if we stay put), but at this point, I think it's just about making a good pick. I don't want guys with limited upside (Asante Samuel Jr./Basham/Toney), guys who are weird scheme fits without rearranging other deck chairs (Barmore/Ojulari [torn on him]/Jamin Davis/Collins/really any OL) Don't screw it up, I'll be at least mildly satisfied.
  21. Agreed about Fields’ talent, but don’t believe the clutch gene is a thing. It’s all training how you make use of the 24 hrs you’re given everyday, in my book.
  22. Lance ain't getting out of the top 10 -- maybe not even the top 5... I think Fields is the one we have to worry about getting to NE.
  23. I'm certainly not high on Oweh either, but at least to me, he's got a high ceiling. Can't say as much for Samuel... It's just really a deadzone for our needs. I'm fairly convinced at this point that we trade up for one of Phillips, Paye, Farley or Newsome OR if we just get completely shut out of those guys, will move back. Could obviously be any of the 32 teams and/or his agent, but I find all of the news around Farley all of a sudden to be pretty interesting. Obviously a lot of it is smoke and BS but there's absolutely nuggets (or at least currents) of truth interwoven in what's being put out over these last 2 days...
  24. Lot of work to put this together, nice job. Really only 3 thoughts: I have a very hard time seeing Denver pass on not 1 but 2 potential QBs of the future for a LB. I think PIT is a virtual lock to go OL I'll be super disappointed if its Samuel at 30. It's buying the last car on the lot because we don't want to go to another...
  25. Those are all day 2 crushes for me, ideally. But with you on ossai.
