Can Sean McDermott Coach the Bills to a Championship?
SirAndrew replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, that’s kind of where I am. No one took accountability for 13 seconds, but you let it go. This season had the potential to let those sins be forgiven. Somehow it seems like this season ended much the same way, albeit with a different type of loss. It ends with more questions of accountability. Who’s going to take accountability for the defensive meltdowns? Who takes accountability for a plethora of ineffective draft picks? I don’t know if anyone does, and then I’m left pondering how 2023 will be different. -
Can Sean McDermott Coach the Bills to a Championship?

I voted no, and I didn’t want to. McD’s culture has turned around this franchise, and he seems like a great guy. I’m concerned that 2020 was the high point for this team. Elite QB’s like Allen don’t always win titles early in their career, but we’re seeing more flaws in this team as time passes. It seems that a different flaw is being uncovered each season. We’re not progressing slowly uphill, we’ve remained stagnant at best, and regressed at worse. I think of the Super Bowl era Bills teams. The 88 and 89 seasons were a slow climb to the Super Bowl. We seem trapped behind two better teams with anyone else potentially passing us. I’m not sure what the plan is to pull ahead, aside from hoping Josh does something incredible. -
Zac Taylor also made a comment regarding the ticket situation, which I found incredibly ridiculous from a coach. The motivation part doesn’t bother me. I can take a good joke, but when using something for motivation there needs be some truth to the slight.

Good point, legalized scalping really damaged home field advantage in the playoffs. It’s too tempting for some folks not to take a decent sum of easy cash.

McBeane's constant use of premium draft picks on role players
SirAndrew replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Getting the band back together was a desperate attempt to cover holes the front office created. I didn’t have much to say about it at the time, because fans are attached to those guys. How many Super Bowl contenders sign guys off the street just before the postseason, needing them to become major contributors. -
I feel the same. The Chiefs loss was brutal last season. I didn’t even want to watch football for the remaining playoffs. This feels emotionally easier because I’m not shocked by the loss, but I’m more concerned about our ability to win a title. I thought we lost from a fluke/coaching blunder last season, but truly believed we win the title otherwise. I’m no longer certain what this team is. The entire 2022 regular season felt like a formality before making up for 13 seconds in the 2022/2023 playoffs, and it ends in the divisional round.

Sure, but SF played it perfectly by just having a D lineman truck him. Asking Elliot to block someone while having big guys converge from the edges is asking guys to do things they don’t usually do. I found it hilarious, and I needed that tonight 😆

Strange McCarthy couldn’t envision that with a running back under center.
-
Elliot as center was awesome, greats stuff.
-
Good to see McCarthy has extensive play calls for last ditch efforts in a losing game.
-
This Dalton Schultz guy is terrible. He’s fortunate he’s got a great Cowboy name.
-
I didn’t like that Shanahan screen pass. It’s basically an extended run, why risk stopping the clock with a potential dropped pass?
-
I don’t fully blame McD, because deferring the coin toss is the call in today’s analytics driven league. I do agree that it wouldn’t have been a bad move. There’s times when offensive driven teams should take the ball first. Gaining momentum with a first drive score can be huge in these games, but it doesn’t seem to be valued.

McBeane's investment in the D Line last five seasons
SirAndrew replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane made too many luxury picks on DL. I’m not just referring to multiple picks at the same position, but also drafting guys who are projects that take time. Those are picks you make with a Lombardi Trophy, not while trying to take the next step. -
That’s fair, I didn’t like the matchup, but I’m still feeling somewhat unreasonable because I didn’t expect a blowout. It happens too much at home during the McD years.
-
I’d like to know how much of the draft falls on Beane vs McD, because the drafts have been bad.
-
I do question some things about McD, but what has Beane done in the draft besides drafting Allen? The homegrown talent on defense and offense is questionable.
-
I really like McD, but I’m starting think this team needs a disciplinarian style coach. We need someone who can get things under control. Their team too often looks like a train going off the rails.

Who are you rooting for next week? Cincy or KC?
SirAndrew replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
KC, The Who Dey stuff is annoying.
