Amazing how the National Press Ignores the Bills
SirAndrew replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why don’t we beat the Browns, Fish, and Cowboys? Then let’s get worked up about disrespect. -
I can’t believe how many fans keep showing up for that team who’s leaving town next year.
-
Mathematically you are obviously correct, but sometimes I look at it differently. I almost like the idea of the Raiders winning to send the Chargers further down in the loss column with 6 losses. The possibility of the Chargers getting hot and going on a long winning streak worries me more than the Raiders doing the same. The Chargers can beat any team in the league, while I’m not sure the Raiders can. I still think KC definitely wins the West, so both of these teams are just wild card contenders.

Media, Rivers is constantly referred to as a future HOFer by the talking heads, while Wilson doesn’t get that same credit.
-
Fair enough, but it’s funny how that works. Rivers has been throwing terrible picks for years that prevent his team from even getting that far, yet somehow he constantly seems ranked above a guy like Wilson.
-
Always felt the same, I don’t think he seems like a bad dude though, just comes across as not being the brightest crayon in the box.
-
I’ll never understand how it’s taken so long for a guy like Russell Wilson to get credit for being a great QB while Rivers has been universally accepted as being great. Numbers are often too highly analyzed these days.

Daboll is an excellent play caller
SirAndrew replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn’t ones opinion of play calling very subjective though? Regardless of whether or not a guy is a former player, it’s really a matter of opinion. At the end of the day, results are all that matters. Right now the Bills offense is not good. Personally, I don’t put much concern into what fans or former players think about these matters. Results are what matters, and Daboll/Allen have a lot to prove. It doesn’t help much when opinions also might have personal bias. Anderson could have liked Daboll a lot as a person, so he isn’t going to say the guy stinks as an OC, I’ll let his track record speak for itself. -

I’m not intelligent enough to understand. On a serious note, I know what you mean by the game being in hand, but usually teams come out of the gate running their normal offense in regular season games. I don’t understand what Daboll is hiding, please englighten the ignorant. The Pats and Brady have run an offensive scheme that has worked for years. They don’t need to hide what they are. -

I’ve heard that theory before, but common sense makes me question the validity. What are we saving our “secret” offense for? Are we waiting for the Super Bowl? I mean, an NFL team needs to run their offense, and learn how to play in it. “Hiding” an offense just doesn’t make much sense to me. I understand that during the preseason, but that doesn’t make sense during the regular season imo. -
Great points, and I’m guilty of blaming OC’s and DC’s in the past. I’m simply skeptical about Daboll because his previous body of work is less than stellar, and he makes too many mind numbing decisions without running an offense with an identity. I do agree that players need to improve, and Allen has yet to prove he’s the guy.
-
Exactly, I don’t claim to completely understand the intricacies of an NFL offense, but I’m simply left in shock too often over random play calling that defies all logic. As Bills fans, we’ve all seen plenty of bad football with teams that lack talent. I’ve seen teams that can’t score points, but I didn’t spend half the game wondering why such a play ever happened in the first place. It’s becoming difficult to grade what we have on offense because of it, and Allen’s growth is also tough to gage.

McKenzie needs to be active at least this year
SirAndrew replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This^ McKenzie serves no purpose outside of the run game. Duke has the ability to be a legitimate receiver. McKenzie is nothing more than a gadget player who is used by Daboll in the same manner every game. It’s not like the defense doesn’t know what to expect when McKenzie is on the field. -
I agree in part. That is a large factor in the conservative nature of the offense. However, it doesn’t explain the lack of identity, or ridiculous play calling decisions. Daboll has a tendency of trying to outsmart himself. I saw his philosophy compared to Mike Martz on this forum by others, and I agree. He’s over complicating things, as opposed to doing what makes sense. He called a better game on Sunday, but there were still some ludicrous red zone play calls. The type of calls that result in losses against better opponents.

Yep, I love me some red zone jet sweeps. -
It’s just tough because you need offense to win playoff games. During the McD years we usually have a solid defensive game plan, but you need to score. Typically playoff team comes equipped with offense that can score points. Our offense is below average, and regardless of the D, what playoff team are we beating when we can’t score? I’m simply enjoying the ride to the playoffs. We are likely playoff bound, and after all the drought years that feels great. It’s just disheartening to see so little improvement being made on the offensive side of the ball. Our fate as a one and done playoff team feels sealed at this point without improvement, and to personally that takes away some of the suspense of the season.

I agree with Daboll being a major issue. I just don’t think it’s fair to act like Jackson doesn’t deserve more credit when compared to Josh. Every team in the NFL takes bad losses such as the Ravens loss to the Steelers. Fans and media simply remember signature wins against quality opponents more than one off bad losses to subpar teams. Allen has yet to pull off a win that makes anyone outside of Buffalo take notice. Plus, Jackson has been better than Allen this season, but that’s a separate debate in and off itself.

I’ve been a big Josh Allen fan since last season. I didn’t like the draft pick, and he slowly won me over after seeing him play in a Bills uni. I have no agenda against Allen. I want to see him succeed, and he has all the tools to be an amazing QB. That’s what separates him from our past failures such as Losman, Edwards, Fitz, and Manuel. He certainly has potential, but at some point you need to see the guy show ability to carry a team to victory. How long do you get to proving that ability? He looked unprepared for the big stage against the Pats, and I look forward to seeing if that changes in future big games. You’re correct, his story has yet to be written. I simply think many people, myself included become nervous considering our past failures at the QB position. Allen simply needs to start showing something. Conservative game plans such as the one against Washington don’t give him that chance, but he will eventually be forced to win a game. That’s what will teach us more about what we have going into the offseason.

I still like Allen’s potential, but I don’t understand the common TBD narrative that Allen is somehow at Jackson’s level. It’s not a matter of whether Jackson is doing it with his arm or his legs, it’s the fact that he’s leading a dynamic offense. I question if Jackson’s style can ever lead a team to a Super Bowl title, but it’s absurd to compare Jackson and Allen at this point. Jackson is doing it his way, but the results are clear. If Allen ever realizes his true potential, he could be an elite championship caliber QB. Allen has the ability to be a dominant passer, if the mental aspect of his game ever comes together. Jackson is simply a fun to watch, and can succeed in an offense built for him. I’m not convinced he will be remembered as an elite QB. However, he can win games and has been dynamic. The moment never appears too big for him. Allen has miserably failed every big test, and looks like an over amped up deer in the headlights against the Pats. Jackson has it together mentally, and never looks intimidated. That’s why Jackson is receiving so much praise, while Allen goes unnoticed. The Bills could be 7-1 and tied for the AFC East lead had we beat the Pats. If Allen played big in a victory against the Pats, maybe the media would give him credit. Until Allen gets some signature victories, there is no reason why Jackson shouldn’t be held in higher esteem.

Josh Allen - week NINE report card
SirAndrew replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’ve actually been an advocate for a more conservative game plan to help Allen grow, but I’m starting the same thing. It’s not a matter of being a running team vs a passing team, but more about what I see in his decision making. Allen simply looks like he’s playing not to lose at times, and I don’t like that. I’d need to watch the film as McD would say, but being at the game I noticed Allen looking for short check downs, and missing downfield opportunities a few times. That was not who Allen was last season. -
Good thing, it might take some work to get him back upright if he didn’t.
