RD 3, Pick 86: RB Zach Moss, University of Utah
SirAndrew replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, not everyone is a hyped personality, as I’m not. However, there are certain situations (like being drafted by an NFL team) where even chill personality people at least force themselves to smile. Unless you have some type of social deficiency, you understand how your response comes across. I don’t care who wants to play here, as long as they play well and show up to work. With that said, I don’t get how anyone can claim a dude like Gilmore wanted to be here. I think he’d at least cracked a fake smile if the Pats drafted him. -
Rd 5, Pick 167: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia
SirAndrew replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. Fromm might end up never making it past the practice squad, or he might become a decent backup. I don’t understand the people who are bent out of shape because “he stinks”. If he doesn’t pan out, that’s fine. It’s worth taking a guy who could become your future backup. I don’t understand how anyone could be upset with the pick, regardless of what you think of Fromm. -

I’m just happy for him that he was actually able to find somewhere in Florida to run uphill. -
Breakdown of McBeane's Team Building Tendencies (So Far)
SirAndrew replied to JGMcD2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely, this season is on Allen. However, I think our O line is very overrated, and it looks like we’ll roll with the same group. They are very inconsistent, with a few guys that make huge blunders on a regular basis. Exactly, how well can a solid offense compete in today’s NFL? We have some really good talent, but it’s not spectacular across the board, and Allen is still a question mark. I’m leery of our O line and TE most of all. -
No social distancing at home of draftees
SirAndrew replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. I’m not ignorant to how bad this virus is, but I’m also not going to pick on some guys hanging with family and friends. A vaccine could be a year away at the earliest, or maybe years off. I’m not sure that everyone understands how social distancing works. Nothing will change until a vaccine comes along, social distancing itself won’t eliminate the virus. I think early on some believed that. In reality, how many people are willing to social distance for what could be years? That might be the reality if we don’t have a vaccine. We really need science to save us with at least a decent treatment. Even the staunchest social distance people are going to eventually give it up, the human mind isn’t built for it. -
Typical Bama fan though, most of them couldn’t even get accepted at the school. The stereotypical Bama fan is even a joke amongst SEC circles.

I wasn’t a TT fan, but I encourage you to watch the entire second half of Bledsoe’s first year, and the same with Fitz in 2011. TT was steady yet unspectacular for an entire season. Bledsoe and Fitz were great for half a season, and awful for the second half. Picking two games doesn’t tell the whole story. TT was a game manager who wasn’t going to win a Super Bowl, but could win by playing within the system. Bledsoe and Fitz were the reason their team lost many games.

These guys are in college to play football, not to be students. Many of those players were afforded the same luxury in high school. There are also many brilliant players in the NFL, who were exceptional students, but other guys skate through all levels of education because their football skills. Those are the guys with pathetically low Wonderlic scores. Keep in mind, not all high schools/colleges are created equal, so you also have that.
-
No, because most football players aren’t “college students”.

TO is 46 now. I’ve seen 42 thrown around a few times on the board, and had to look it up since I remembered him being in his mid 30’s back in 2009. Yeah, there aren’t many guys at 46 who can play NFL football, even former greats, and he’d be 47 by the end of the season.

The Vikings are a really good football team. McD has worked miracles with this Bills team. The Vikings success is far more than just Cousins. Cousins is a decent QB, but I don’t think many of you would be happy with him if he were our starting QB. Watching a playoff game and looking at the stats is different than watching a guy QB every week. Some of us just interpret the quote as being a bit out of touch (even when the quote is read in context) I can also totally see why someone wouldn’t have an issue with it. I get that, there are far bigger issues that face football teams than a little quote like that. I understand why many people aren’t bothered by it. What I can’t understand is how some people don’t see it could also be taken the wrong way. That why I made the fanboy comment, some people are really digging deep to defend the comments. I’m not saying what he said is a huge deal, I can see both sides.
-
I read the actual full quote, and although it adds context, it can still be interpreted as Cousins saying he doesn’t care if the fans are in the stadium. He’s absolutely entitled to his opinion. Those of us who view that quote as sounding a bit arrogant/self-absorbed are also entitled to an opinion. Personally, I want to see people back out living their life everywhere, including attending football games. If Cousins is happy to not get booed, that’s cool too.
-
I hate sounding all grumpy old man about random things players say, but Cousins did say “we don’t need all the smoke and fire”, which in my mind translates to game day with fans. He’s entitled to his opinion. It’s just ironic that he wouldn’t have a job without the “smoke and fire”. It sounds arrogant to me. He could have said something like “I just want to play, regardless of whether we can have fans”. That would have even upset some, but instead he talks about practice and OTA’s, and how you don’t need “fire and smoke to play the game”. Well, actually you do need the “fire and smoke” because without it, football wouldn’t exist.

Jay Glazer: I will break big, national news tomorrow
SirAndrew replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree, I find it hard to believe anything very important is going to be announced at 11. What a joke. -
He’s allowed to have his opinion, I just don’t understand or agree with it. If I’m a football player, I want fans in the stands just to show the world has returned to some sense of normalcy. It’s a downer going to work everyday only to be reminded the world isn’t normal right now. Cousins probably just gets paid enough to make none of that matter to him. There’s a reason he doesn’t seem to be well received by teammates.

SI Article: forget about sports this year
SirAndrew replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair enough, I’m just thinking there won’t be enough produced to test every American as often as NFL players. I don’t see it medically necessary for insurance companies to cover that every week either (test is quite uncomfortable too, we’d need to come up with something faster and easier to administer, there’s many reports of not being swabbed correctly). However, my point is we need to protect our seniors, the disabled, cancer patients, maternity wards etc... far more than NFL football players. If people who work with those populations don’t know if they have the virus, the NFL won’t be able to go ahead with this without looking terrible. I’m not writing off the NFL season. I actually have a lot of faith in the season happening in some form. I just can’t envision a scenario where players are being tested on a regular basis. If the outbreak is still at that level, there won’t be a a season imo. -

Many tests might be available, but unless the government foots the bill for every employer in the country, I don’t see many private organizations providing free tests for employees on a regular basis. The NFL has the cash to do it, and if they are one of the few who are able to do so, it still won’t look good. -

Exactly, the optics of NFL players getting testing on a regular basis would be terrible. Many health care facilities are overrun with the virus, yet employees can’t get tested to protect the patients. If that doesn’t change, and tests aren’t abundant, there will be major pushback. I don’t see the testing nonsense working for the NFL. -

That could be a nightmare scenario imo. If this virus is still circulating, a scenario where we test all players and personnel has the potential to go very poorly. I can envision hundreds of positive tests on asymptomatic players. The season would be a random crap shoot based on the amount of players who would miss two weeks. -

SirAndrew replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, everyone will have had exposure to it by fall imo. So I’m not going get all doom and gloom about needing a vaccine to save us. We are vastly underestimating how many people will actually be positive for this before next fall. By positive I don’t mean a positive test, I just mean that they actually had the virus. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
SirAndrew replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I meant there is no sense in blaming specific individuals in the current administration, that is purely political. What we must do is address how the greatest country in earth ends up with a PPE shortage, and fix that problem. Americans have always fixed problems, we can’t allow partisan bickering to put people in harms way. Regardless of who is to blame, let’s stand up and fix the problem. We need actions, not rhetoric that sounds good.
