It's gonna suck to lose guys like Ta'amu to the NFL.

He's gonna go to the big league, but he's gonna be a back-up. Then St Louis becomes a much less interesting team. It's a lose-lose for everyone, but Ta'amu.

Like @simpleman said, the XFL needs to pay up. Fans need to keep watching, too. We can't complain that they're not able pay for stars and then not watch. They need the fan following in order to grow and be able to give those pay-days.

Absolutely, I enjoy the league, and don’t want to be a downer. Unfortunately, the future seems clear to me. They aren’t going to pay up, and the league will just continue down the path of irrelevance before dissolving. We’ve seen this movie play out before. I have no idea what’s supposed to be different about the XFL.

There's really NOTHING to criticize here, although the positive extrapolations are a bit extreme.

With the weather/small market issues the Bills face, it's absolutely vital that the GM/HC do everything in their power to make Buffalo an appealing destination. McDermott seems to do a great job "inspiring" men and fostering a positive environment. That much is self evident.

Results are really the only thing that matter, and McD has eked every single win possible out of his rosters ALL 3 seasons in Buffalo. While I question the importance of "culture" and all of that jazz, the proof is in the pudding. While the draft is the lifeblood of the team, I do think it's important for the Bills to acquire some top end talent via FA'cy. If this helps, that's great.

I agree, how can anyone criticize this? I think McD is a brilliant defensive coach, and has this team headed in the right direction. Having a positive team culture certainly can’t hurt anything. With that said, only talent will allow us to take the next step, even if some guys don’t fit the culture. The Chiefs are world champs, and they have some real “non character guys”.

For me, lesser voices can also add to the listening experience, although I do have my limits.

I never thought of it that way, but’s it’s true. Rock music was built on the blues, it’s all about soul and human emotion. The imperfections are what made classic rock music connect so deeply. Other genres often sound too mechanical and perfect to my ears. Much of today’s pop/rock music has also become emotionless with the ability of technology to make everything flawless.

I wonder if they’d ever get crazy and switch it up? Why not try something like Criss Angel or David Copperfield? What about Nik Wallenda? Have them do something absolutely absurd and promote it leading up to the game. I’m not sure that they will draw the viewers before but have potential to be talked about for weeks after.

In the age of social media and viral videos, I think something along those lines would be a great idea. Everything today is about drawing instant attention to all that is different and absurd. Just a one year trial of something other than music would be worth the risk imo.

Absolutely, that’s why in rock/pop music I always choose showmanship and songwriting ability over vocal ability. I rarely care how “good” a rock/pop vocalist is, because that’s low on the list of reasons I love the genre. I appreciate great singers (Ann Wilson is great) , but lesser vocals don’t take away from the listening experience imo.

That halftime show was really bad. The point remains though that the NFL is going to continue to put out artists that they think will appeal to those least likely to watch the Super Bowl. You’re probably looking at like Ed Sheeran or Halsey next year.

I agree, I’m just thinking there will never be another  Michael Jackson type moment. Music doesn’t hold that place in the lives of the younger generation. The world isn’t go to stop to watch any artist today. I’m not convinced it will forever be worth the hassle for the NFL to keep it up. However, I get your point, I just think it’s possible the ratings spike might not be enough in the future to justify the show.

  7. I really don’t understand the Halftime show at this point. The NFL wants to bring in a younger demographic, but younger generations don’t connect with music the same way as previous ones. I don’t think many younger artists are going to create a huge buzz amongst younger folks. I can attest that very few people genuinely cared about the J Lo Shakira Halftime show

I could care less who was a better singer, if that was my criteria I'd listen to more Pavarotti. Dave helped make songs great, Sammy never did that for me.  I don't agree that Dave couldn't sing Sammy songs, he just wouldn't sing them the same way - and I'd probably like them more with Dave.

Right on, I never listen to rock or pop music for the technical prowess of the singer. There are certainly some great singers in rock music, but rock’s more about attitude than technical ability. I appreciate when I hear a great singer, but it’s not crucial to my appreciation of rock music. Neither Sammy nor Dave are great technical singers tbh. Rock fans might consider Sammy a great singer, but Sammy wouldn’t be considered a great singer by opera or showtune people.

He’d fit the hybrid Shaq Thompson role in McD’s defense and I can see it happening.  At some point however, they’re going to have to have the organizational discipline in place to build a modern offense and add touchdown makers.  It’s gonna be tough for McBeane to stretch outside of their comfort zones and pass up on defensive talent they know how to scout and utilize in their scheme - but they’ve GOT to do it.

I’d be ok with the pick so long as they trade back up for pass catchers.  They also need offensive line help, a running back and a tight end so....

I agree, even if they are uncomfortable with making a heavy investment on a WR, at least find some O Line help. I like Beane, but I hope he learned from Carolina. Carolina simply leaned on the short lived excellence of Cam Newton, while not addressing that side of the ball much.

  10. I prefer Roth as the stereotypical party rock band frontman. That edition of Van Halen was the ultimate party rock band that paved the way for countless imitations. Van Hagar was a good pop/rock band that would be remembered as such, but that version of Van Halen wouldn’t have been enough to elevate the Van Halen name to the status it has today. Also, the musical direction that Eddie took with Hagar appeals to me less than that he took with Roth. Eddie Van Halen the guitarist > Eddie Van Halen the keyboard player. Van Hagar produced some great tunes, but I also have a tough time dealing with garbage like Love Walks In.

The issue with this is it adds 3 weeks to the season.  It's too much for the players as @Chicken Boo has stated earlier.

Rookies can barely get through an NFL season now compared to college and teams IR lists will just get longer.

I agree with the fans that think this is just a money grab.  For my two cents it dilutes the product.

Question for anyone who knows.  Has there been any talk about increasing roster size (lets say up to 55 from 53) in these talks.

I haven't heard anything about that.

Yep, Thursday Night Football has already diluted the product by producing mostly poor football on short rest. Now we want to add a 17th game that will likely involve two teams traveling outside of the county, often in a vastly different time zone. Once again, those are typically lower quality games.

  12. IV’s are obviously crucial treatment methods in medicine, but many of the other fads such as how the NFL uses them are unproven. The NFL doesn’t just use them to hydrate, but to “hyper hydrate” guys for better performance. Pro sports are all about pushing humans to the next level, and they’ll give anything a try, regardless of how useless or unsafe something is.

I'd never trust some marketing gimmick that used Roman numerals to make it seem legit.  Myers 1,2 and 3 evidently flopped.

Yeah, the whole IV trend is mostly a scam. There’s little science that actually back the claims. It is a business that’s starting to make some good money though.

Its not just the two playoff games. It’s also the 17 (and eventually 18) game season. It’s the fact that the NFL is so blinded by greed that they don’t seem to care that the majority of fans don’t even WANT these changes. It’s the constant lip service to “player safety” while showing that they don’t actually give a damn about the players.

Its about the NFL constantly making changes to a product that is ALREADY wildly popular and doesn’t need them — diluting the product and endangering the players — just to make an extra buck.

Right, and does a 17 game season mean that every team plays a game abroad? I’m not sure how else they arrange an odd number of games, which is something most other sports don’t have. Adding an additional game, and more travel would do nothing to benefit the product.

I hate it. I knew big changes were coming but I like the current structure just fine. Getting into the playoffs should mean something more than being in the top half of the league. One extra regular season game is one extra chance for injuries. Not a fan of this at all.

I’m also a fan of quality over quantity. The NFL just doesn’t have enough quality across the board to make every game interesting. Look at wild card games right now, you’ll see there are always several duds on wild card weekend. Several team always “sneak in”, and are nowhere close to the teams who have the bye week. I have no desire to watch additional lower quality football.

Seriously, does anyone really believe that the Steelers and Rams deserved to be playoff teams last year?

Exactly, and that’s the issue with this cash grab. I’m glad I didn’t watch Mason Rudolph or that Duck clown in the playoffs.

  15. I think Beane is too smart to go all in with huge amounts of cash on one player. I’m not a fan of spending big bucks on top free agents, unless you literally have every other piece in place. Even in that rare circumstance, many teams have invested greatly in one player, only to find out he wasn’t the missing piece. Build through the draft, and make smart free agent singings. Only teams with an elite QB should ever dabble in the world of big money free agency imo.

nothing justifies Garrett's behaviour, he had better repeat that line every time he has to answer a question if he wants to be cashing checks for the long term

Behavior isn’t justified, I’m just saying I’m not going to call Rudolph a racist, or Garrett a liar when in reality I don’t know what happened. I just find it funny how 99.9% of people take one of those two positions. I take the position that I have no clue what happened. I’m just commenting to society/media’s need to choose sides in everything. It’s fair to state an opinion there was no place in football for that, because that’s a more informed opinion.

Bingo, autographs and merch would be enough to sway many. Maybe he got Mom’s number too, the whole thing sounds trashy enough to go full on Springer.

  18. This isn’t really one head scratcher, but a combination of events during the drought. The front office inability to assess QB’s was terrible during that time. I understand, it isn’t easy to find a franchise QB in the draft, but we stuck with guys far too long who had little potential. I can’t believe anyone ever considered Losman, Edwards, and Fitz as long term solutions. We wasted lots of time and resources on those guys. Additionally, simply drafting Manuel in the first round was a pathetic move.

    Cant fix stupid.

I can’t believe how many of these dudes get married so young, like Mayfield at 24. That just seems really dumb for these young rich guys, I’ll never understand it.
