  1. What do we know now about handling the virus that we didn’t several months ago ? If players continue to test positive during the season, it would hurt the season. That’s all I’m saying. Wal Mart is different then an entire football team who has been exposed engaging in physical contact with another team.
  2. Chances of getting hit by lighting are around 1 in a million, so that’s not true. How are they going to expose everyone to the virus? Please inform. You are correct, just saying the narrative that a healthy young person can’t die from Covid at all is false. The odds aren’t great, but it’s enough to be a little scary.
  3. Not a ton, but they did in NYC at the peak. My point was that young, healthy people can be affected, contrary to the beliefs of some. Obviously, the elderly and immunocompromised are but the hardest, but young people have died. That’s scary in and of itself. That’s not the point though. It’s the idea that when someone is “exposed” to the virus, everyone they came into contact with at the workplace is quarantined. This would make the NFL season very tough to play. I’m not sure why this confuses people. It’s not a matter of “ let them play, who cares if they have Covid”, it’s a matter of regular testing causing issues.
  4. And random people who are healthy, you never know if you could be the one, that’s what makes it scary. I know a 20 year old nurse who worked in NYC, ended up hooked to a ventilator. I’m sorry, but that’s scary. We know nothing about the virus, and I’m not advocating prolonged shutdowns. I’m just saying it’s not factual to say you must be immunocompromised to die from the virus. Being immunocompromised is a huge risk factor, as it is with every illness. However, perfectly healthy people have perished. I encourage you to look up deaths of nurses and doctors in NYC. It’s a scary virus, that doesn’t mean I’m telling you to stay home living in fear. I don’t believe we should, but to minimize the danger is a mistake imo. We also have no clue about long term effects.
  5. I’m over the social distancing myself, but this virus is far more scary than many want it to be. Most people are fragile, and older, but the fact that 1,000’s of 30 somethings have been placed on ventilators is frightening. Life is better when we choose to ignore that though, I get it. I just don’t see how a season works, unless we as a nation change our quarantine/exposure policies.
  6. Love your positive attitude, but the fact that people are required to be quarantined when they test positive, makes it hard for me to believe there will be a season. It’s not a matter of these guys being young and healthy, it’s the point that every positive test results in a huge process that needs to be followed. I’m seeing this at my workplace right now with asymptomatic test results every week. It’s creating a major headache, and I don’t see how the NFL season can carry on when players will inevitably test positive all season. The fact that you believe most of these guys will be fine, and many of us have it (you are correct) doesn’t change the fact people who come into contact get quarantined. The NFL season makes no sense, unless the virus disappears or society changes how we will deal with it.
  7. This is the part that people miss. The NFL isn’t out to do the right thing. The league is all about revenue, and positioning themselves to be the premier sports league for years to come. The first protests damaged their product, so they put an end to it. I think the league is taking a gamble to position themselves for the future, nothing more. It isn’t about the players. They see everything that’s going on as an opportunity to become more hip like the NBA, and appeal to younger fans. They are afraid of ending up on the wrong side of history, and don’t want to become a league of older fans like MLB, with no future fan base. They are basically saying they accept losing one demographic, in hopes of picking up others. It will be interesting to see if it actually works, or this really hurts the league again.
  8. The social justice fight will live on, but I predict the kneeling thing will be forgotten by the time the 2021 season begins. Regardless of how you feel about the kneeling business, I think people should just be happy to see a 2020 season. This season is in greater jeopardy than most realize. The kneeling is the least of my concerns.
  9. You could apply the idea of “sending a QB to an era when they got hit” to anyone today. This would also apply to Mahomes, Brees, and Brady. Do you really think Brady or Brees would still be playing if it were the 70’s ? All of their games would be significantly altered by defense that’s allowed to hit receivers and beat up the QB.
  10. The Lamar Jackson aversion on this board is just hilarious. I’m not sizing his jacket for the HOF yet, but give the guy credit as one of the top AFC QB’s. That could change at any time, but that applies to any player. I like Josh Allen, but this idea we are in better shape than the Ravens right now, is simply bizarre. I like this Bills team, but we have a lot to prove.
  11. The issues with the protests, and demands for social change will live on, this is a very real movement. Fromm’s texts will be forgotten. I’ll never ask anyone to condone those texts, but I think there’s overreaction from people on both sides. He’ll address the team, his teammates will be done talking about it, and the world will move on. I’m not even attempting to defend Fromm, but just stating human nature. The fans, media, and even teammates will move in to the next big story in time.
  12. Great points. I think most officers are decent people just trying to do a noble job. The problem exists with the system. Race is a factor, but it really misses the fact that policing varies greatly between poor communities and upper middle class communities. That’s where we have a huge discrepancy. The war on drugs has created a culture where we are looking for problems where they are “most likely” to be found. I grew up in a poor rural community. Many of my classmates are now in jail from opioid arrests. I remember not being able to drive the streets of that predominantly white town after dark without getting pulled over. The town I grew up in has a population of around 5,000, and had a large town police force, in addition to the sheriff. I now live a suburb of 20,000 with no police force other than the county sheriff. We know exactly who to target, and it’s poor people with drug problems. It’s not, but I think some of what’s going now speaks to the fact American society is over Covid 19. It’s remains a real threat, but I think we’re nearing the point of total fatigue.
  13. Terrible story about your wife. You are absolutely correct, anyone can rise above with proper family support, and a decent upbringing. The one thing some people miss is the fact that millions of kids are raised in violent abusive conditions with parents who are incapable of helping them with basic math. These people have almost no hope of success from day one. I’m not saying there’s much anyone can do it about it, but I am saying it plays a role in how people react differently to adversity in their lives. Obviously, there are exceptions to all rules. I’m most frustrated when people work themselves out of tough situations, only to throw it away while blaming society for their failures. You see it a lot with pro athletes who find themselves in trouble. They’re given million dollar contracts, yet fall into bad habits because of the “old neighborhood” or something.
  14. There’s no such thing as a “private” text, and maybe one day people will get smart enough to realize that. Especially when you’re an athlete texting random gf’s/hookups, it’s all there forever. Some jokes/conversations need to happen in person like they did for hundreds of years before cell phones.
  15. No, he’s an “elite” apparently.
  16. I don’t care to get into the politics, or Fromm’s character. I just enjoyed the “white elite” part of the text. Funny how some pro athletes seem to think they are “elites”, because they have money based solely off the ability to play a game.
  17. This is happening in my workplace. Regular testing= positives on a regular basis. I’m probably bias because of that, but I’m not sure how well the season can function with regular testing. It would bring up way too many potential issues.
  18. Yeah, some are talking like Orton was a respectable option at QB. Orton was checked out, and just cashing a paycheck that season.
  19. Yep, Allen is a gunslinger who’s willing to take chances. I think he’s the type of QB who realizes you get the ball to your playmakers, even if they are covered. I don’t see a TO situation where you have a guy like Trent Edwards who was afraid to force the ball to his playmaker. Diggs should get his chances, personally I’m more concerned with Daboll making a game plan that utilizes all this talent, as opposed to Allen not getting them ball.
  20. I don’t think the terminology matters much, but any TE putting up stats equal to a number one or two WR should be paid as such.
  21. Wonder if he wanted extra money for being a dirty player.
  22. I couldn’t believe McKelvin was still returning anything five years after the Pats MNF fumble game. He could be a playmaker at the return position, but was also a disaster waiting to happen. The fact he was out there at all is a testament to having multiple coaching regimes who were all clueless. It feels so good to be past that point.
  23. Agree, Prescott is a very good QB with the Cowboys. I’d really like to see how he’d play elsewhere. Prescott’s in an ideal situation with Dallas, and I’m not convinced he wouldn’t be very average elsewhere. QB of the Cowboys has always been one of the more interesting positions in all of sports. They are quickly elevated to greatness by fans/media when they have early success, and receive unlimited criticism when they struggle. Dak’s prestige has been elevated by having early success in one of the marquee positions in sports.
  24. Yeah, Andy Reid has proven he can have sustained success, and now has the best QB of his career with Mahomes. Back in the 90’s you had the Cowboys, Bills, and 49ers who all had that potential. Later on you had teams like the Packers and Broncos. In today’s NFL, the Chiefs are the only team I’d even think about as a potential “dynasty” when mentioned. There’s way too much parody now to apply the term dynasty frequency.
  25. Honestly, I don’t understand people who get worked up over who hosts these type of shows. One Bills Live is what it is, it’s mostly feel good stories, with limited critical analysis. There’s nothing wrong with the program, as it serves the purpose of public relations for the team. However, these type of programs aren’t meant to be award winning journalistic ventures, so why do people expect the hosts to be perfect? Maybe I’m just biased because I’m not into sports talk. There’s a lot of in depth sports knowledge out there, but you really don’t find it on any mainstream sports radio/television.
