Yeah, you don’t win many games when you have that much trouble scoring. A big part of that loss was Buddy coming back down to earth. He carried that team from the tournament on. I’m not placing blame on him, but they needed him to be spectacular to win.

The Lesson in the Sabres Horrendous Season
SirAndrew replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, the Sabres are an example of a sports team that’s as broken as I’ve ever seen. The Sabres are doing historically bad things in hockey. I will disagree with the drought Bills always being “in the hunt”. Mathematically they usually were, but football plays a short season. Winning just a few games keeps you in the hunt mid season. How many of those teams did anyone believe were truly in the hunt ? I almost always felt like the season was over by November after seeing the on field product for two months. The Bills never had a historically bad NFL season, but those 17 years, or whatever it was, were cumulatively bad on a historic level. -
The Lesson in the Sabres Horrendous Season
SirAndrew replied to IronyAbounds's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember there was a reason I never joined Bills forums during the drought years. It seemed like getting five or six wins was a badge of honor to some because we were never at the bottom. Comparing the Bills and Sabres is apples to oranges, but not making the NFL playoffs for almost two decades is also epically bad. I don’t care if you win five games every season, it’s still a tremendous feat of incompetence. This is a good organization now, so none of that matters. I just think it’s funny how some will always be in denial that the Buffalo Bills had been a rotten franchise in the past. It’s ok to admit that, it makes having ownership willing to spend money, and good front office staff all the more impressive. -
I assume your referring to Singletary. He looked really good his rookie year, but our run game was abysmal last season. Moss basically overtook Singletary as the go to guy by the end of the season. Singletary’s two year stat line looks nice, but was basically supplanted by Moss, while looking quite below average. That doesn’t make me feel great about Singletary. Great points, I’m being a bit hyperbolic by referring to Moss and Singletary as wasted picks. However, I don’t like the fact we used two draft choices on guys who appear to lack big play making ability. I don’t care about 40 times or anything of that, Moss and Singletary both look slow with no burst. Neither of those guys seem capable of turning a twenty yard run into an eighty yard run.

I’m good with the Breida signing to fill a need, but generally I agree with you. That’s why I find it so disappointing that Beane struck out on two draft choices at running back. I realize that Moss has shown some promise, but he also lacks playmaking ability. We drafted two backs who play like an aging Frank Gore. Neither guy was a first or second round pick, but you should do better with mid round picks at that position.

I’ll disagree with all the Sammy is the best receiver on the Ravens takes. Hollywood Brown is still their best wideout, he just doesn’t get the chance to show it.

Nice signing. I don’t like the idea of drafting backs early. You can find plenty of capable backs with speed in free agency. I think a guy with speed is going to look amazing in this offense.

I agree, some fans hate hearing this, but money is even more important than winning or accolades. Accolades make a player earn more money though. I think that’s the biggest fear players have with Baltimore. Agents and advisors always look at the big picture. The statistical decline of a season or two in Baltimore is going to decrease the value of a WR, causing them to earn less in the next contract. I think that’s the biggest fear these guys have. Signing with Baltimore limits future earning potential.

Nice signing, and that’s awesome for McKenzie. He definitely has a place on this roster. I just worry we won’t have enough targets for Sammy 😂

I could see Trubisky benefitting from his time in Buffalo without seeing the field. The Bills are finally a well respected franchise. League wide opinion of our management and coaching staff is very positive. It’s possible that teams will assume Trubisky learned more about the game here, regardless of how much game action he sees. Quality game film in 2021 is obviously Trubisky’s greatest chance for a big contract, but I think he’ll benefit just from being here. Don’t underestimate how much a year away from the Bears can help him either. Trubisky could benefit just from the human tendency to have a short memory. He’ll look more appealing to teams without coming off another below average year as starter with the Bears.

I agree, it’s really that simple. Backup QB in 2022 is something that doesn’t remotely stress me. It’s a luxury to draft a decent backup, otherwise you just sign a dependable free agent. It’s not like there’s many elite backup QB’s.

I was actually agreeing with him, and just explaining why I see it the same way. It was probably poorly written.

Goff was simply part of the deal the Lions had to accept to get rid of Stafford. Jared Goff might do great things for the Lions, but I think they’d consider that a bonus. I’m surprised how many people think the Lions want Goff as their future.

Yeah, I think the Giants should have went after Fitz. They could have let Jones sit a year, and take advantage of those talented skill position players to win a very weak division.
-
There’s no arguing that point, but I think situations make a difference. Josh Allen has more natural ability than Daniel Jones could dream of. Allen also showed more than Jones the season before we went all in on Diggs. Josh Allen’s potential made the Diggs trade seem like the right thing to do. The Giants probably shouldn’t be doubling down on Jones as their future. How many people outside of the Giants front office actually believe that Daniel Jones is a future star ? NFL teams cling to their poor choices for too long out of pride imo.

Bears interested in Isaiah McKenzie

I agree with your assessment of punt returns, although I didn’t even think about that. That’s all the more reason why I hope to find a reliable return man. I’d rather have a dependable, yet unspectacular return man, over an inexperienced rookie with home run hitter potential. I’m good with drafting a guy for his future ability to be our return man, but I think our current roster is too good let a rookie field kicks. A McKelvin situation isn’t what you want on a team with hopes of contending. -
Big Ben did have the fourth most attempts of any QB in the league last season. Only Brady, Mahomes, and Allen had more. I’d still assume the Bucs, Chiefs, and Bills would all be very happy with a number two WR having 97 receptions. Your point is valid, especially considering Big Ben’s short passes, but calling him an average number two is a stretch imo.

JuJu might want to be the star of the show, as evidenced by the dancing bit. He can be the star in Pittsburgh. That’s all I can think of. He had 97 catches last season. I’d say he’s well above an average number two.

Thanks and Farewell to Matt Barkley
SirAndrew replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is from SoCal, he might have learned some cult leader skills 😆 -
I actually understand how some Bills fans might think Winfield wasn’t that great. He was a good player with us, but he didn’t become an all around great player before going to the Vikings. We never saw his full potential realized in Buffalo. Instead, we’d go on to draft corners in the first round year after year.

Great teammate, and he was the perfect backup for the past few years. Josh needed a mentor early in his career, not someone who could steal his job. You take the losses if Barkley steps in, because having a high character mentor was more important. Allen is now fully established as starter, and our needs at that position change as a result. -

Great point, but there’s also part of me that thinks our roster is too good to put a rookie out there returning kicks. You never know how a guy is going to react at this level. There’s something about that position that make rookies scare me. The importance of kick returns have diminished due to rule changes, and you’re most likely to notice the returner only when he makes a mistake. Rookies tend to make a lot of them, I’d hate to lose a game that way. -
Good call, I remember when Bills fans expected big time players to come play with Kelly Holcomb. When we missed out they’d blame Buffalo for not having enough culture or opera houses.

Nice reference to Barkley’s evil QB rating 👍 I suppose that explains why he led Beasley to slaughter with that garbage time throw.
