McShay- Bills trying to move up above 23 for Etienne
SirAndrew replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely, that’s why I can’t see Beane going for Etienne. They just drafted running backs two years in a row, using decent picks to do so. The running back position isn’t where I’d be spending that many resources over the course of three years. -

Etienne would be a strange pick, because it means Beane admitting he failed on two running back selections. I understand the need for a dynamic playmaker, but they could have went for speed, instead they went with Moss and Singletary. -
Are sports’ drafts fair to the players?
SirAndrew replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Players with enough leverage could demand where they want to play in theory. Ask the Manning family. I think most players are just happy to reach the highest level of their profession. You don’t hear much complaining about the current structure from players. This is just the opinion of one sports writer. -
Athletic article on JP Losman

I agree, I’m just addressing the idea that Wyche was an innovator, and some type of great addition to our coaching staff. I’m not convinced that Wyche was up to date on the game in 2004. He was out of the NFL for almost a decade. I don’t know if there’s a back story to Wyche joining us, but on the surface it doesn’t seem like he was in demand. He was a Super Bowl head coach who joined a disastrous franchise as just a QB coach. I’m not sure how highly he was thought of by teams in 2004. I do recall him having some major health issue, and possibly couldn’t have handled a greater position in 2004, but Wyche just seemed like a random guy to pull out in 2004. -

Valid points, Sam Wyche an innovator with the Bengals in the 80’s, but that was twenty years before his time with the Bills. I’m not convinced he was still an innovator in the 2000’s. Wyche was out of football from 95-04, before joining the Bills staff. There was no consistent success from Wyche to prove he wasn’t a dinosaur by the time he joined us. Once an innovator, doesn’t mean forever an innovator. -

I always rooted for Losman. I have no idea why, but he was one of my favorite “failed” QB’s. He brought physical talent to the table that we didn’t see in any QB until Allen, and that’s what I liked. Losman was a guy who could at least make things exciting with his deep ball ability. I am a little surprised by the coaching success. I never saw him as a cerebral player, and thought his inability to understand the game actually held him back. People do mature, and life is a continuous learning experience, so I’ll give him credit. -
The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
SirAndrew replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those are all fair points that I agree with. You made a great point about Reggie White type players. It’s understandable what they want Epenesa to be, it just worries me to ask that much from a young player. A second draft choice is a big investment in someone you want to completely change. It’s like getting married with the expectation the person completely changes themselves after the wedding. Why didn’t they just go after someone who fit what they wanted ? Apart from the TE situation, I think this regime has been great with the offense. I’m not sure what they’re trying to build on defense. I still believe that McD is a phenomenal defensive coach. I’d love to see what he could do with less awkward fits on defense. -
The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
SirAndrew replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The entire Epenesa situation feels like the old square peg in a round hole deal. Our front office is incredible, but that doesn’t mean we can’t question things. I’ve always been very confused trying to understand what they want from Epenesa. I think people on this board underestimate how much he’ll need to overcome to become a good NFL player. The guy needs to learn more than the average young player. He needs to learn the NFL game AND how to play the game in his new frame, along with a new position. That’s a lot to ask from someone. -
Never been so disinterested in a draft

Agree, I don’t know much about any of these guys this year, and I trust Beane to make a decent pick. A couple good picks could put us over the top, but we’re not looking for a savior anymore. That gives it a different vibe compared to what Bills fans were used to. -
Buddy Nix probably would have just reached for some obscure guy who ended up being drafted in the second or third round.

Dolphins Fan Take - Morning JA Discussion At Work

It’s frustrating when Josh looks shaken, but it can happen to any QB. People forget how shook Brady looked most of the game during his Super Bowl loses to the Giants. -
Awesome topic, I find it very interesting. Does anyone remember if the third game of the season against the Pats was the first Fitz start that season? I know he started games in 2009, but 2010 solidified him as starter. I’d consider that a pretty big turning point. I was never the biggest Fitz guy, but I can’t believe Gailey started Edwards that season. I knew Gailey was a joke the minute that happened. Everyone knew Edwards wasn’t the future before the start of 2010.

I couldn’t agree more. I have noticed that fans who attend Bills games are on the younger side compared to what I’ve seen at other NFL stadiums. That might play a big role in the frat party atmosphere. You get them everywhere, but I also notice a greater proportion of people who are completely out of it. It varies quite a bit based on where you sit. The club seats and parts of the lower bowl aren’t as bad as the upper deck. The upper deck in Buffalo has more drunks than I’ve seen anywhere in my life.

Good call, It’s true the Pats didn’t have superstar running backs, but they all contributed nicely to those teams. They were guys who fit the offense, and could make plays when needed. Moss and Singletary might be able to do so under the proper circumstances. The worry some have is the fact that Singletary and Moss play like they have led feet with absolutely no play making ability. I can’t name all the Pats dynasty running backs, but I know they always had someone on the roster who could break a big play. That’s what we lack in Singletary and Moss right now.

The only reason I dislike Harmon for that drop is the sketchy gambling past he had in college. It all might have been in his past at that point, but he wasn’t a guy I’d consider trustworthy. Lack of being of trustworthy is always a good reason to dislike a player. -

Also if we drafted Josh Rosen, we’d have a unanimous answer to this question. -

I do think we can all agree it’s Whitner’s fault that he tackled using his back. -

I forgot about Leodis McKelvin. It’s the only time in my life I believed someone could be too dumb to be on a football field. The funny part was we had coaches who were even dumber. He held on to kick/punt return duties far too long. -

Absolutely, Highmark has hosted several concerts the past few years. There aren’t a ton of stadium concert tours that take place in the winter. There simply aren’t enough domed stadiums to plan an entire stadium winter tour. Additionally, there aren’t many stadium tours these days anyway. I don’t think the future of music is in big stadium shows. Most big stadium acts are retirement age. Who knows how many of those will even be touring by the time we get a new stadium. Stadium concerts are such a rare occurrence, it’s not something I think plays a huge role. -
Who is the one player you DON’T want the Bills to draft @30

There’s been some reports online citing “sources” claiming Wilson is ranked above Lawrence on one or more draft boards. I realize the internet is far from trustworthy, but I find it surprising that any sports site would post these articles. Chris Simms is respected for his analysis, and he came out saying he preferred Wilson. Lawrence remains number one obviously, and who knows the validity of these rumors, but there could be legitimate rumblings about Wilson over Lawrence in some circles. It won’t happen, but I’m just making the point that Wilson over Lawrence has been mentioned, albeit not often.
-
Absolutely, there’s no way any of us know how their careers will turn out. I’m just amazed by reports that some teams actually prefer Wilson to Lawrence. A year ago you’d assume anyone going all in to draft a QB would be going after Lawrence. I’m not certain of Lawrence or Wilson, as I’ve said there’s no guarantees. It’s just interesting how fickle opinions and analysis can be. Last season Lawrence was the greatest QB prospect ever, and now a one season star is giving him a bit of a challenge. I think it shows that we’re too prone to exaggerations when assessing players.
