I’d love to see the media reaction to a missing in action QB if his name wasn’t Brady.

We’re in trouble without Allen regardless. Barkley can play backup, we should see if anyone is dumb enough to give up something for Keenum.

Barkley certainly doesn’t have much arm strength, but the guy really seems to understand the game.

Gentry has all the makings of becoming a preseason legend.

I think this is pretty much who Keenum is. We were kind of spoiled by Trubisky’s competence as a solid number two. There aren’t many decent backups in the league. I actually think Keenum remains one of the better ones.

I really like Crowder as well, I think he’s a lock to make this roster, and will be a big contributor. I certainly haven’t changed my opinion because he alligator armed a terrible pass by Keenum in the first quarter of a preseason game.

I agree, I’m just not convinced players see the preseason the same way some fans do. Fans assume players are going all out at all times, I think that’s a bit of myth. I agree if he’s a bubble player, but I was always assuming he’s a lock to make the roster.

Also possible Crowder wasn’t much interested in exposing himself to a big hit during the preseason on a bad throw.

I don’t know if Willis has what it takes to be a great NFL QB, but I’m not convinced anyone will develop into one with Vrabel as head coach. Vrabel doesn’t seem to have the temperament of a great NFL coach.

I can’t stand the red Christmas jerseys, but love the red helmet. The white helmet is a little boring to me. I wished they’d bring back the red helmet with every jersey combo.

Glad I’m not a Raiders fan. I couldn’t deal with hearing how McDaniels is bringing in the “Patriot Way” every game. Good luck with McDaniels as head coach also.

That’s fair, I’m just saying the list of guys who couldn’t “will their team to the SB” is far greater than those who could. Rodgers does have one Lombardi. The list of great QB’s with one or fewer titles is extensive. Winning a title is about so much more than QB. Manning won his second title when he was completely washed, and Elway won multiple titles in the twilight of his career, not his prime. Greatness at the QB position almost guarantees winning a lot of games, but doesn’t guarantee titles imo.

I see what you’re saying, you could consider Aaron Rodgers career “a waste” due to lack of titles with good regular season teams. However, he consistently puts his team in position to make Super Bowl runs. I don’t know if he can do that with his supporting cast this season. That’s what I’d consider a waste. I realize Rodgers rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I don’t fully understand the criticism he gets for his playoff failures. I’ve never heard anyone call Favre a disappointment for winning just one Lombardi.

The key to getting 12 wins is to avoid the bad losses we seem to fall into too frequently. We can’t longer afford loses like the Jags, and Colts blowout last season. That’s the difference between home field and a possible title. I think this is a great football team, and I have very high hopes. We just need to be clean that issue up.

I’m not convinced about that being the case with Brady. He always had decent options on offense when he won titles. When the Pats left him with an empty cupboard, Brady was good, but he wasn’t championship Brady. Brady had a lot of good wideouts over the years. I’d really need to look back at his title years to see the wideouts, but I think he usually had decent players around him. I agree that Brady wasn’t always surrounded by superstars, but he never won a title with a supporting cast as weak as Rodgers this season.

Absolutely, but a great QB with bargain basement wideouts is a really bad combo. It’s the easiest way to waste the luxury of having an elite QB.

I’m surprised how highly some people think of Garoppolo. It’s almost as if people know the 49ers reached a Super Bowl and NFCCG, but didn’t watch him play. His QB production would have been decent in the 90’s, but the standard for QB play is far greater these days. He’s a below average starter, who was carried by a great team. Trading for Jimmy G is the type of mistake that bad teams make. He’s going to look awful on a below average team, yet some desperate franchise is going to trade assets away for poor QB play.

I’m not convinced. I’d love to see a list of washed up receivers who were supposed to revive their careers simply by playing with Brady. I think the list of those who failed at such a revival with Brady is quite extensive.

The Saints have a real chance. I’ll never predict this as the season Brady loses it, but I think we could see a 2019 type version of Brady. Brady was the beneficiary of a stacked Tampa roster, now they’ve lost some guys, and others have aged. I don’t think Brady has a ton of weapons on offense. The Saints have a great D and better offensive talent than the Bucs.

Absolutely, I don’t think pressures and hurries have the significance they once did. Today’s athletic QB’s work much better under duress than their predecessors. QB’s like Mahomes are sometimes more dangerous once you chase them out of the pocket. You need sacks to get the D off the field.

Tua will be a backup QB soon, and Miami is insanely overrated. You need a star QB to win these days. I’m extremely confident we win the AFC East. If we actually manage to lose the title to Miami with Allen under center, changes will need to be made next offseason. There’s no reason we shouldn’t win this division. Obviously if we lose the division yet manage to win the Super Bowl, it’s all good, but I think we need home field to make a legitimate run.

Coaching also has to be part of this comparison. I’ll admit that I’ve expressed frustration with McD on gameday threads over in game decisions. I’m also aware that McDermott is a very good head coach who continues to gain valuable experience every year. This coaching staff is top notch, and more often than not we’re very well prepared. Who knows if Brandon Staley can even succeed as a head coach. We have a huge advantage in coaching over the Chargers. That’s why I think the Chiefs remain the biggest hurdle, because Andy Reid is one of the few AFC coaches who can match us in that area.

This character stuff coming out about Mayfield after his time in Cleveland is strange. How didn’t NFL teams, or at least the Browns see these red flags? He was an immensely successful college QB, but I also never seen a QB act so immature on the field. If that’s how a guy is when the cameras are on, it’s hard to believe it’s not worse when they’re off. I distinctly remember Mayfield’s college career more for his lewd gestures and antics than on field play. I was rooting for the guy in Cleveland, because he was fun to watch, but it’s hard to believe no one was aware of the risk.

He was also a big part of the 2020 AFCCG loss in KC. Maybe he’s just bitter because he didn’t get a chance at revenge during the 2021 playoffs.
