The Intentional Grounding Penalty that Wasn't
Buffalo Junction replied to Motorin''s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen is responsible for setting up the protections at the line. In this case it seems that he misread the pressure and Morse couldn’t or didn’t adjust to the error. That’s why all the linemen are looking to their right and moving to their right. @Shaw66 is correct about protecting inside to outside, but there’s a caveat.... That generalization is null with certain protection calls. They slide the pocket and when that occurs the RB and TE are generally responsible for rushers on the opposite side. Dawkins could have made that block, but if he did and there was delayed pressure in the middle that protection fails. Singletary didn’t make the block, he failed to do his 1/11 on that play. However, Allen and Morse also screwed the pooch with the protection call which set Singletary up for failure. We saw this against the Pats and Ravens too. BB’s 0 blitz scheme is set up to cause this exact issue. Particularly with all the players that draw a block immediately dropping back into coverage. Young QBs are going to get schooled sometimes with protections and coverages. This was a good play call by the Texans and horrible execution by the Bills. They will learn from it. Particularly Allen and Singletary. -
My Off-Season Primer: Position Group: OL
Buffalo Junction replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can’t see them sending Ford to the bench. They might very well move him inside, but he played all year despite there being a decent option at RT. I agree that Spain is the lynchpin for what they do with the Oline. If they can get him to resign at a decent price I think we’ll likely see the same line return and the backups move around. If Spain walks in FA I think they’ll bring in a RT, bump Ford inside and either retain Long or draft a backup. The possibility of a Morse injury is real though. I might be the only person with this view, but I don’t think our run blocking suffered with the interior being Spain, Feliciano, and Ford. It seemed that they were actually more aggressive as a unit with that combination. That’s where Longs value shows up though.... If that ends up happening they still only need to dress Long to backup C and G. The versatility might be worth the price when you can only dress so many players, BUT.... that might change if a new CBA gets hammered out this year. -
Baldy's Breakdown of Singletary vs. Texans
Buffalo Junction replied to UB2SF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plenty of backs in the draft. I think a fair amount of us have a player or two we’d like to see Beane draft as well as presumed FA fits. I’m not exactly sure what skill set they’re going to look for exactly aside from a Barkley clone which isn’t an option. I think a relatively big back with burst and 3rd down value is what they’ll be after, but I’m not sure that they’re after a pure hammer. Considering recent trends I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for completing the cycle on future HOF backs and nabbed Peterson. -

It can be done.... -
For $20MM/per I want a player that’s better against the run. At that price the boo parade is going to be intolerable when he fails to keep contain. I’d honestly rather go DE in the 1st and resign Shaq or grab Arik Armstead. Outside zone runs are one of our defensive weaknesses.... no need to add to that with a cap squeezing player.

That usually happens when a western team travels to the East coast: Dallas/NYG, KC/NE, etc. It’s not normal unless it’s that condition coupled with possible high ratings. NFC north games are generally at 1pm as well unless it’s a marquee matchup -Rodgers vs Brady/Wentz/Mahomes- and they already have a prime SNFB game scheduled.

CBS new mock has us taking AJ Epenesa
Buffalo Junction replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. He fits every McMetric for this defense. 6’ 200 lb corner that excels in zone, likes to tackle, ultra competitive, senior, team leader, ball hawking skills, and his best traits are awareness and work ethic. I have a hard time seeing them passing on that kid if he’s there at our 2nd round pick. -

Not sure if McB go CB in rd1, but I’m on record saying that I highly doubt they’ll pass on Bryce Hall or another coveted corner if they somehow drop to us in rd2. Hard to make any guesses before FA, combine, etc. -
The Rooney Rule (still) isn’t working?
Buffalo Junction replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not necessarily sure that it’s an owners issue. It’s an issue that needs to be examined from the bottom up.... How many assistant coaching hires are minority candidates, are they promoted, is there more or less equality in the college ranks? Many of the best candidates tend to rise to the top, but if the best prospects never get that job as Asst LB coach at Middle Tennessee State they’ll never sniff a career. Another thing to look at with these coaching hires is the prevalence of former QBs and minority QB trends over the past few decades. A lot of these offensive coaches played QB. -
The plan to replace Lorenzo Alexander?
Buffalo Junction replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They might if they can use the guy as a DE on third downs. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they made a play for Judon or Dupree for that reason. Realistically, if they go the FA route I expect someone like Kyler Fackrell though. He offers a similar skill set to Alexander in a similar price bracket. -
My Off-Season Primer: Position Group: RB
Buffalo Junction replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’ve been a fan of this kid for a while. I’d be perfectly content with adding him in the lay 4th or 5th. 5’11, 220 lbs and can catch. Added bonus.... watch him carry Jamal Adams 10 yards around the 2:10 mark. -
Call your shot (2020 NFL Draft)
Buffalo Junction replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My money is on AJ Epenesa if he slips past 15. Hard to tell where edge players go pre-combine unless they’re freaks. However, good Iowa lineman tend to have a high floor and help immediately. -
For me it’s the perpetual injuries that devalue Clowney more than anything else. If they can resign Lawson for 1/3 of a Clowney contract I’ll be content with that as long as they find some more talent at Edge. Whether that’s drafting a kid, signing Dupree to replace Alexander, etc doesn’t matter to me. They need talent in the pass rush.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - All Part of the Process
Buffalo Junction replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Too many stalled drives that resulted in field goals. That’s been an issue all season, and it’s the biggest indicator of an underperforming offense - points aside. Some of that is on Daboll, some on the WRs, some the O Line, and some on Allen. They need more talent and the coaching needs to improve. Daboll cannot broadcast play selection with packages until/unless the talent is at a level where it doesn’t matter. Add 2-4 playmakers at key positions and this team starts winning these types of games consistently. The foundation is built though. That’s an improvement upon the last two decades. -
Matt Milano and missed tackle
Buffalo Junction replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tackling has gotten worse across the league since this iteration of the CBA. They simply don’t have the ability to coach it properly in camp. That might be something teams need to focus on with draft prospects going forward... draft players who already have good form and are sure tacklers because you cannot teach it later. -

I’m curious. He’s a natural runner. It’s going to be interesting to see how much his knowledge of the game, blocking, etc have improved. -

Allen out-playing other playoff QBs
Buffalo Junction replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Under Greg Roman after Watkins went public about getting the football. The passing game remained inconsistent but there were deep shots coupled with a top rushing attack.... which is my problem with Daboll.... if you have a back averaging 5 yards a carry you run him till he pukes. It makes everyone else on the offense perform better. -
