A little holiday shopping- Justin Smith
Typical TBD Guy replied to Buffalo Mike1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's not quite the way I've been seeing it. IMO, Schobel and Kelsay are the ones getting blown off the line and out of position during the run plays. Denney seems to be doing (for the most part) a solid job closing off his inside gaps. He does seem to get swept out during the outside runs, but I'm not sure if that's more the exposure of the Sammy LB being out of position... What this front 7 needs to stop the run is: 1. More time with the new D system 2. More time for TKO to get back to his old playing speed 3. A large DT who can take up 2 blockers and also not be a slouch on pass rushing (i.e., a younger, less lazy version of Sam Adams) 4. Another elite pass rushing DE to pair with Schobel Regarding point #4...unless we can land Freeney somehow, I think we're better off just keeping Kelsay and hoping for a little more improvement from him. He HAS made considerable progress this season, compared to his first 3. point #3.... I don't see any good UFA DT's so the early rounds of the draft are probably the more viable options (and getting McCargo back next year might help a little too). point #2.....a guy like Bears OLB Lance Briggs might be worth considering in case TKO's future doesn't look too bright. point #1...I think this is by far the biggest problem. As long as we're playing this crappy Tampa cover-2, we're always going to be undersized and rarely dominant against the run. However, timing in this defensive system is everything. If everyone can finally get on the same page and know where they're supposed to be on the field at all times, it can definitely work and we can definitely become a top 12 overall unit on D. -
Try this guy.

That South Park episode last season with the manatees and idea balls got to ya, huh?

Don't worry. Anderson can wrestle Krumrie, so we know he'll eventually be a great NFL DT.

My clue is pointing over there now!

Police Say Mother Microwaved Her Baby
Typical TBD Guy replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah, but don't you see a difference between a bunch of man splooge and an 8-month old fetus? And really, how different is an 8-month old fetus from a 1 month old baby? Both are still highly dependent on the mother for survival. It's a complex question, and if one chooses to draw an arbitrary line at the moment of birth, then so be it. Just don't start crying over a microwaved 1 month baby when 2 months prior you would be celebrating the mother's right to vacuum that same baby's head out from her cooch....I think that was VA's point. Then again, I also see everyone else's point...that this was not the thread for such a political discussion. -
Interesting sidebars before the game against
Typical TBD Guy replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing Spanos, since Wilson and Davis are known to be great friends... -
Is it finally time to say goodbye to T. Spikes?
Typical TBD Guy replied to envirojeff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's just use some common sense here. TKO has 1 year left on his 5-year contract. Cutting him this offseason would provide very minimal savings, and I seriously doubt we'll find a trade partner. Given TKO's former abilities and Julian Peterson's recovery from the same injury, it's worth it to let the guy play out his contract and give him an extra year to heal and to get more experience as a Sammy cover-2 LB. If he still sucks by next December, we then simply don't re-sign him. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a day 1 LB as his - or Fletcher's - potential replacement, but we have enough roster holes as it is to fill in 1 offseason... let's not wrecklessly create more. -
She looks pretty healthy to me. She's a naturally petite girl, maybe only 5'1".

That was pretty cool . Too bad Schobel was MIA on every other play, particularly those running ones.
-
That was exactly my thought when that play happened (and no, I'm not a JP Apologist...or JP Hater). The same problems happened for the Texans' returners on that side of the field.
-
. Yes, I do. I've edited my original post.

Is this a joke or just one of the worst threads I've ever read? We played an anemic Texans D. A-Train had NOWHERE to run and had to earn every single yard he gained on his own. And most of the successful pass plays came from JP's scrambling ability more than any amazing pass protection. I will give you this, though: the Peters-Gandy-Fowler-Preston-Pennington line is probably the best combo I've seen all year. Still not saying much. We are 3 quality starters away from having an above average OL in 2007: LT: Peters (has lots of potential, and a better vet FA LT or rookie LT isn't likely to be found) LG: free agent or day 1 draft pick C: Fowler (kind of mediocre in run blocking, but not a problem with better guards) RG: free agent or day 1 draft pick RT: free agent or day 1 draft pick (I like these backups, plus all the experience they are getting now...) Backup T's: Pennington, Butler Backup C/G's: Preston, Merz

People forget that Clements and McGee were originally drafted to play man in the 46-D. Now, in their first season playing in the Tampa cover-2, they have had their share of struggles but also have looked great for stretches of plays this season. I expect them to only get better as the D unit around them gets better with experience (rookie safeties), health (TKO) and new players (DT's). Daquixers is 100% dead-on with his analysis of Clements. Re-sign him for whatever the free agent market says he is worth. We will have over $30 million in cap space, and there is no way we will be able to spend anywhere close to that much, especially if we aren't able to sign Eric Steinbach. Might as well not open up MORE holes on this roster; we already have enough.

Why do we pass on 3rd and short
Typical TBD Guy replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Simple: we don't have the talent on the OL to run on 3rd and short. -
Bills - Texans GAME Thread
Typical TBD Guy replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather be boring and win than losing and exciting...and this game is headed for a loss if our D doesn't make some halftime adjustments. -
Godspeed, Hardly Boys. Godspeed.

Last White Back to Gain 1,000?
Typical TBD Guy replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I guess white people are to physical agility what black people are to mental IQ. See, Eric? I can be a racist, too! -
I was reading J. Sullivan's article about OJ

I agree 100% with this statement, and I'm by no means a Willis hater. -
overheard a weird thing about the Sabres

Can I blame the Senecas for tonight's loss? -
Then show some initiative and start an intelligent thread. You used to be a great poster here; now you're just another bitter, cynical cog in the TBD machine.

Man, I Wish Our Team Would Draft LINEMAN!
Typical TBD Guy replied to Alaska Darin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, but your avatar probably could (was that the guy on the YouTube video?)! As for AD's topic, I think it has a lot of validity simply for the reason that I plan on bringing up like a broken record: something is wrong with the Buffalo Bills' OL scouting staff. This problem has continued through 3 GM's and 4 head coaches and God knows how many offensive coordinators and OL coaches....none of the linemen we're drafted since Ruben Brown seem to have had success here or anywhere else in the NFL (Jennings is always injured in SF). Simply drafting lots of OL isn't going to solve everything. And until the scouting staff changes and until we finally figure out what identity our offense will be (and stick with it), I'd rather see us draft "best player available" than constantly reaching for linemen. There are just too many roster holes to not do so... -
Do you contribute anything to this board anymore besides the sarcastic one-liners? Jesus H., this place has turned into a !@#$ing army of bungee jumping feces throwers . Read my first post here on why I think a change at QB for a game or two would be a good idea, and then get back to me with your reasons for defending JP at all costs. And FYI, yes I think we'd be something like 5-4 if we had a more competent (read: just average) QB than JP - the Detroit game and yesterday's game. Those 2 games came down to a difference in a couple big plays, and regarding the Indy game in particular, JP made ZERO big plays. For the few opportunities he was given to do so in and near the read zone, he was terribly inaccurate when given enough time to make the throw.

Mike Gandy = turnstile
Typical TBD Guy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coping with the collective losses of Shelton, Gandy, and Villarial by winning lots of games. -
Did you bother to read my entire post? I explained my reasons there. And I can just as easily turn the table on your question. Will starting JP those extra 2 games give us a definitive answer on whether or not JP is our future? Why is everyone afraid of playing Nall for a game or two? I'm starting to get fed up with holding an entire franchise hostage for 1 player's development. If Nall was a 1st rounder - and JP wasn't - I bet this argument would take on an entirely different flavor.
