  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/stor...nicsmove_080702 As a Buffalo Bills fan, here are a few lessons I'm taking from this situation (none of which I suppose are shockingly new to the hardened cynics among us): 1. 40+ years of tradition aren't enough to keep a sports team in town. 2. Don't trust new owners from outside the state (or in our case, the nation). 3. Don't expect league commissioners or other franchise owners to stand in the way of a better opportunity to make money (in spite of whatever PR BS they spew). 4. Worst case scenarios can and do happen; prepare accordingly. Your thoughts? I'm sure there are a few Buffalo Braves fans lurking around with some heated opinions right now.
  2. Weak finish. When asked about supporting the New Deal and WPA pork, Barr should have just come out and said it: "hell no, you condescending GQ douchebag." Otherwise, fairly strong interview. Count me in as another voter convinced of Barr's libertarian transformation. Better late than never. Obama? Socialist. McCain? Imperialist. Barr? Constitutionalist.
  3. The Founding Fathers wanted all U.S. citizens to have the ability to tear down the government should it become overly corrupt/intrusive/fascist, i.e. when the good of the nation becomes more important than the good of the individual. You think countries like North Korea, China, Cuba, Iran, etc... could get away with what they do if its citizens had the right to bear arms and organize militias/guerilla groups? Nope. You wacky ultra-libs need to read some !@#$ing history books. Or at the very least, watch "V for Vendetta." It's a good 2 hour movie starring Natalie Portman. Like stuckincincy said, I am SCARED of the 4 Supreme Court justices who dissented on this slam-dunk case.
  4. FYI, there is no cure for emphysema. If she does everything right from here on out, she'd still be lucky to ever reach age 50.
  5. A fair yet sobering ranking. Here's a positive spin: we are only 1 Russert-inspired fluky miracle 2008-09 Super Bowl season away from an easy #17 ranking.
  6. Or rather, nullify our 14 losses.
  7. at this thread. Steely Douche : economics :: Governor Huckabee : science
  8. "It changes nothing for Buffalo, as the Bills in WNY are as good as gone no matter what." - PTR before he started this thread.
  9. You've never heard a "cracker" joke? You've never heard comments along the line of white people are lame, they can't dance, they can't jump, they have smaller penises than blacks, etc...? You've never read comments here at TBD along the lines of white people don't make good defensive ends, cornerbacks, runningbacks, etc...?
  10. Um, that last paragraph of mine was obviously typed tongue-in-cheek...but as an FYI, income disparity is proportional to cost of living. Hey, if you want to live somewhere else, that's your business and none of mine. But if the place you choose to live is not conducive for civilization, that doesn't give you the right to alter/wreck the environment where I live. Same principle behind those that want to drill in national parks while at the same time refusing to relinquish their SUV's, carpool to work, use public transportation, etc...
  11. Well said. It's funny how some Americans (rightfully) criticize the people of New Orleans wanting to rebuild in the exact same location, but then continue to buy homes along treacherous beachfront properties and within barren deserts and near earthquake epicenters . Not to mention the obvious environmental factors involved with draining and redirecting massive amounts of Great Lakes water . "But...but...but I'm not intelligent enough to hack it in a less-than-perfect economic climate. And my vagina is too sensitive to withstand the sub 80 degree weather around the Great Lakes/WNY region." - expected retort from random TBD douche
  12. I know you're talking more about corporate dollars than population size, but for what it's worth, the combined metro area of Buffalo (#46 in US) and Rochester (#50 in US) is actually slightly larger in population size to both San Antonio (#28 in US) and Las Vegas (#30 in US). The Los Angeles/Inland Empire market is the only one in the United States of any noticeable population size larger than WNY that still is without an NFL team. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unite...ropolitan_areas Also of note on that list are Jacksonville (#40 in US) and New Orleans (#51 in US).
  13. But a 50-50 split would still creep into the CFL season. More likely, Toronto gets our worthless 2 preseason games in August plus 2 home games in December. Buffalo gets the other 6 games from September-November plus they get to keep the name, BUFFALO Bills. Best of both worlds: Buffalo keeps its team and milks the Toronto market enough to stay financially competitive; Toronto satisfies its NFL demands without destroying the CFL in the process. Honestly, I think us Buffalonians need to be more worried about LA.
  14. The Bills moving is NOT necessarily a done deal for many reasons, despite Ralph and Mary's refusal to help us Bills fans out: 1. The true strength of the Kelly/Kemp/Golisano/Rich/Wegman/etc. financial coalition is unknown to the public. 2. There is a substantial league relocation fee that needs to be factored into an out-of-town owner trying to move the Bills. 3. Schumer has significant clout over the NFL's Congressionally sanctioned business privileges. 4. Who's to say that Goodell won't step in to prevent relocation like Tagliabue did with Benson's Saints? That was a case where avoiding bad publicity overrode the NFL's need for immediate financial gratification. 5. In the case of Toronto, the CFL and Canadian government may step in to block NFL encroachment like they've done in the past. 6. In the case of LA, nothing will happen until they get the issue of a new stadium in order. Once they do, ANY team - not just the Bills - is fair game. The most likely owner to jump on this financial opportunity would be Wayne Weaver, whose Jags are in a marginally better TV market than Buffalo (#40 in size vs. Buffalo's #46...which does not even include Rochester or CNY or Toronto), have 35 years less of history in their city than the Bills, and can't sell out games despite a consistently competitive on-field product. 7. Playing in Toronto for 1-2 regular season games per year may be the monetary injection this WNY market needs to stay competitive. 8. The potential economic recession in the coming months/years, combined with a potentially new CBA that helps the small market teams, may even the economic playing field for the small clubs vs. big clubs.
  15. Outstanding post, OCinPhilly. I'm always impressed by the number of closet libertarians at TBD PPP. For every molson douchebag and blzrul and PastaJoe here, there's also an Alaska Darin and BlueFire and DCTom around to maintain some semblance of a rational political debate.
  16. Philster, Which Bandits players normally show up to the post-game party at Pearl Street? I definitely gotta hit that up sometime!
  17. Superhero: Nicely done. I would only recommend 4 changes to your roster: QB Drone over TE Johnson RB Omon over FB Barnes OL Whittle over S Scott CB Youboty over CB James
  18. Is that what the Ryerson recruiters told you?! Oops. Devry tells similar lies in their spam e-mails. Carleton, by the way, is the best school in Canada for journalism; Ryerson is little more than a glorified community college. If you insisted on getting an education in the city of Toronto, you should have at least gone to U of T. But judging by the writing quality in your Bills article (not to mention in your two posts here at TBD), I doubt you have the aptitude for U of T. And Lori (post #2 in this thread) already exposed your lack of journalistic ethics regarding those annoying details called "facts." Sacchin Seth: just another dime-a-dozen journalism student who thinks a worthless degree, internet access and a suave metrosexual hairstyle (http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/sachinseth) will thrust open doors into the upper echelons of the media. Most likely, we will see you 10 years from now flipping burgers at a pit-stop fast food joint off of the QEW.
  19. Ryerson has about the same level of prestige as Devry.
  20. Awesome game! Sold out arena, loud as hell, lots of scoring, down to the wire finish, AMAZING Johnny Tavares goal, team sporting mohawks... The only sad thing is that this may have been Richie's and Johnny's last games...
  21. I think you meant 1992.
  22. Let's all hope the pilot airlifting him hadn't been drinking beforehand.
  23. Oh, delicious irony. I can't wait for Alaska Darin's response to this!
  24. Loving the responses to this guy's blog: http://www.news4forum.com/sports/2008/05/b...-champions.html
