New Depth Chart - Week 1
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Slippery Rubber Mats's topic in The Stadium Wall
AJE at the top of the depth chart??? McD is either really clueless or Miller is totally washed. Hollins over Coleman is just sad. Beane has destroyed this WR group. Instead of going up and getting a playmaker he traded back for a guy that couldn't win 1 on 1 matchup's in college and now can't beat out a guy who in all but one season had less than 20 catches a year. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the first few weeks. -
How big of a concern is the Safety position?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh he was a huge downgrade from Hyde but he was vastly better than Johnson. Johnson couldn't do anything. No idea why he lasted on the roster so long. He's barely been in the league since Bills released him. You are correct about Hamlin taking bad angles. He did it several times. There were still a couple veterans not named Hyde that Beane could have signed the last month even after all the injuries. He chose not to. Probably banking on Bishop being able to play. Have to think Hyde is signed to the PS in a week or two and brought up for game day. He could be a player coach. -
I think this is an issue of small sample size and one game overly affecting the stats. In the Dallas game Cook rushed for 179 and Johnson added another 54. Allen only passed for 94 yards. That is not a normal game for most NFL teams. If Josh has a normal game of 250-270 yards instead of the 94 yards then his averages per game are nearly identical with Dorsey vs Brady.

How big of a concern is the Safety position?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hamlin was ok. Johnson was terrible and off the roster at the end of the year. When Hamlin played next to Poyer he held his won. Not great but not terrible. If Bishop is healthy and can't win a starting job as a second round pick, it's another huge 2nd round miss by Beane. Give then a few weeks to see if Bishop can play and if not call in Hyde -
Here we go again with TV contract dispute

This is capitalism. We all asked for more access well this is the price you pay. This is their peak of negotiating leverage so they are using it. Customers caught up in the middle. As others have said, it usually gets resolved before the week is over -
Do you wonder if the league is fixed?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to The Red King's topic in The Stadium Wall
One fighter vs 53 players. Not impossible. I suppose Josh could have been paid off to fumble the snap on the goal line against the Vikings. But was the entire o-line paid off to not recover the ball? Outside of the QB who is already making millions nobody else handles the ball enough to make a difference. I guess a kicker could miss a FG but even then the team and game situation has to be such that it even comes down to a winning/losing kick. Would I be surprised if some guy ultimately was being paid off? No. Wide spread absolutely not. And certainly there is no collusion amongst hypercompetitive billionaires to let Robert Kraft keep winning SuperBowls. -
Labor Day Weekend: Should be opening day for NFL
Ethan in Cleveland replied to mannc's topic in The Stadium Wall
There were. But just like I would rather clean gutters than watch Panthers vs Falcons, I choose not to watch Ohio State vs Akron. To each their own. My only point is the NFL probably has 2-3 games a week that have some national interest. College probably has 10. Also, College Gameday was better than any NFL pre-game show until Pat McAfee showed up and ruined it. -
Labor Day Weekend: Should be opening day for NFL
Ethan in Cleveland replied to mannc's topic in The Stadium Wall
There were plenty of top ranked schools playing each other this weekend. Georgia vs Clemson. And even some that weren't ranked like Miami vs Florida are still huge names. Vanderbilt had an upset win. LSU vs USC opening weekend! I'm not a Notre Dame fan but even their game was good. It was a great opening week of college football. If you are not a Bills fan would you have any interest in watching Bills vs Cardinals??? -

Which Team Has The Best Weapons In The NFL?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
1. 49ers 2. Eagles 3. Miami 4. Bears 5. Lions Lots of teams with a dynamic duo like Bills (Kincaid/Cook) or Jets(Wilson/Hall) that are just a piece away from being in the top 10. In Bills case, even if they look terrible on paper now, there is potential if Shakir continues to blossom and the NFL passes a rule that players guarding Coleman have to hop instead of run. -
Bojo held just fine as Dustin Hopkins was voted as an alternate to the ProBowl last year. Maybe the guy teaching him was terrible. Maybe he was just fine holding the ball and Bass just wasn't any good.

I often wonder if this fan base is the only one that thinks it is hard to hold for a FG I've been watching and reading about football for nearly 40 years and I know of know other team or fan base that fretted about holding for a FG.

I think the consensus wisdom is the Dolphins defense which wasn't that great has taken a significant step back. Who did the add? An old and broken down OBJ? -

The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
What evidence do you have he can't throw? His QB rating is 98. His completion percentage is in the mid 60s. Almost a 3:1 TD to INT ratio. He has a career 7.5 YPA compared to Allen's 7.2. Please enlighten us on why you think he can't throw? For transparency sake, I have him fifth 1. Mahomes 1a. Allen 3. Burrow 4. Herbert 5. Jackson -
The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't you think part of the hate for Lamar is race based? People say he can't throw the ball. His college completion percentage was 3 points higher than Allen's. His completion % had been in the mid 60s ever since his second year. And as you pointed out with far less talent at WR position He has a career 64% comp % and a 125/45 TD/INT ratio All that said, he does sound as dumb as Leodis when they interview him. I don't think anyone pretends Allen was great right away. What he showed quickly was crazy athleticism. While many of us saw glimpses of what he could become, there were plenty on this board that wanted to draft a new QB after year two. Those posters know who they are. I just don't agree with your premise that his development is due to McDermott. Beane should get more credit for getting him Diggs. McD wanted a balanced offense and Daboll let Allen keep firing. Daboll had his issues in the red zone but he is the guy probably most responsible for Allen's improvement. -

Bengals do when Burrow isn't hurt Chargers did more of a reset at the skill positions than I thought they would. They have $70M in cap space next year. Harbaugh is going to build a bully and with Herbert will be in the AFC Championship game next year.

The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
You missed my point. Those great QBs in their eras weren't leading the NFL in INT or turnovers. The notable exception I found was Marino in 1986 had 23 INT( 623 att and 44 TD). Their rate of turnovers was just higher compared to now. In 1986 and 1988 there were 10 DBs with 7 INT or more. In 2023 there were 2. As great as Allen is you can't whitewash his turnover issue. You can explain it to some degree by his number of attempts and carries and those are valid points. It still doesn't take away the fact it is a problem that needs to get better. And actually they did talk about Elway turning the ball over too much in his early years. Same thing with the first year Peyton Manning played. -

There is tier 1 but several of those guys in tier 2 are really tier 1a. Herbert, Stroud, Jackson, and Prescott are better than all the others in tier 2. Tua is interestingly not listed. He's better than Cousins, Goff, Love, and Rodgers at this point. He's as good as Hurts, Purdy, and Stafford. -

Scapegoat # 5 ... He's fired two OC, a ST coordinator, and a DC. I don't think McDermott really understands what accountability means -
