20/20 foresight is so much more impressive than 20/20 hindsight. Can you please link us to all your posts objecting to the above signings WHEN THEY OCCURRED?
We’ll wait.
I said Morse was overpaid at the time.
I hated Ivory signing and posted at the time.
I hated the Dareus trade.
I hated Murphy signing
I was quite ok with Star and the trade for KB.
As for the most recent moves, I like the WR signings and I like Spaine. I’m not sold on Long and Nsekhe. I think both are average to below average but serviceable players. Ford probably wins RT spot. And if Morse was healthy, Long would be in a dogfight for a roster spot with Teller.
At this point I think Beane gets an undecided grade. For every good move there have been bad.
But every word I just typed is meaningless, because it is all about Allen. McD and Beane are gone if Allen is a bust.

Doug Whaley/Nix built a REALLY good roster... with the exception of a quarterback. They don't deserve the hate they get here for that... maybe for Rex, but many people loved that move then too.
It's been said that every GM/Couch will be judged by their choice of quarterback, no matter how well he does everywhere else. I guess it's true.
Whaley didn’t hire Rex. Pegula did.

There are far worse players than Lawson. D+ is not accurate for his level of play. It's not even that fair for his draft status. He is a C+ player. B- in run game.
-
No way he is worth $40M. Problem is how much risk do the Cowboys take on letting him walk and finding a capable replacement. If everyone came to their senses Prescott, Elliott, and Cooper would all sign deals at about 85% of max for their positions. The three combined along with that O-line are better together than apart. Add the Cowboys national brand and they make more in advertising.
But that won't happen. Zeke is a top 3 RB with a limited shelf life. And oddly Dak is not well respected enough for his talent to agree to a below market deal. Brady can do that and look good. If Dak and his agent do that, they will be ridiculed and it will be said Jerry got the best of them in negotiations.

Interesting choice. I think he makes the team this year but is released or traded next year.

You made his point for him. If we NEEDED a great receiver so badly we should have taken that in the first.
Or signed, or traded for one. You dont expect a 2nd round receiver to be THE guy.
You do expect a WR drafted in any round to be able to catch the ball.

This board did a good job of naming many QBs that were 3rd string, undrafted, PS, or balckedballed because of race and ultimately ended up startign anf winning some games. Obvioulys only a few are HOF or would even be considered very good. But for a time they were good enough to win.
It just reinforces my belief that GM's know nothing more than the average guy. They can't predict with a high degree of certainty a Romo (not even going to mention Brady) any more than they can a Blackledge, Couch, Akili Smith, and any one of another 100 high round QB busts.
A team should draft or sign a QB every year. Even if they have a Brady or Favre
David Woodley - 8th round draft pick and 4th on depth chart to start his career.
I didn;t know he died so young. Age 44 from liver failure.

LOL... This board is hilarious. The Bills have been so bad and irrelevant for nearly two decades that no other team's board would even create a Why the Bills suck thread. It would just be a given. The Giants have as many SuperBowl wins as the Bills have playoff games in 20 years.
Giants are going to be a train wreck this year. It's a must win if Bills want to make a playoff run. Giants run game and the best RB in football versus a boom or bust Bills run defense. This game will be an early predictor of how the remainder of the season will go. The defense should be able to stack the box to stop the run like teams have done to the Bills for years. They can go man to man with a single high safety all game and have little to no fear of getting beat deep. If McD can't find a way to win this game he will be on the hot seat early and probably throughout the remainder of the season.

I don’t recall people saying it was unnecessary, but it is true that their moves are what contributed to the dead cap problem.
Regardless, creating cap space isn’t an accomplishment. Any idiot GM can cut players and make cap room. Where this staff is going to get judged the most is in Allen’s development and the number of games we win.
Ugh many of us said it was completely unnecessary and made the team objectively worse during a playoff run. Trading Dareus made the run defense worse and the cost was not much different after adding Star.
Agree with the rest of your post. It's all water under the bridge at this point and Beane's future will be entirely judged on Allen;s performance.

Sometimes I wonder.
RDE- Hughes
DT- Oliver
DT- Lorax
LDE- Murphy
Alexander is currently listed at 245 pounds and you want him lined up at DT? I think he is fine as a spot pass rusher in the DE spot. And Im ok with moving Lawson to DT for a few reps a game. B

The one in a Bills uniform. Always.
Both could have great seasons but with Brady, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Luck and Mahommes in AFC there is no way Josh Allen the QB is making the ProBowl
Josh Allen the DE has great chance at DROY and ProBowl year 1

Bills get a wildcard playoff spot.
Browns win 9 games but miss the playoffs.
Josh Allen makes the pro bowl.
Which Josh Allen?
Wins in the following order
1. Allen
2. Jackson
3. Mayfield
4. Darnold
5. Rosen

Moulds probably deserves it. Second best WR in team history. Talley and Ferguson did not. Not sure Jim Ritcher did either. All good to very good players but not superstars. Bennett was a far better player than Talley but didn't play as long with the Bills. I'm fine with him not being on the wall.
Winfield and P. Williams are guys that were great but again not long enough of a career in Buffalo.
Sadly the next guy that probably will go up will be Moorman.
Kyle is a sure bet in the next few years.
Schobel has better stats than Hansen (16 more sacks in 23 less games) but not the wins. He never got the fan appreciation I thought he deserved.

I thought about this too. For every move that is touted as great they have made a bad one. I don't have enough time to track every GM. I just know they've made more mistakes than a lot on this board like to let on.
It's all on Allen at this point. They passed on a MVP QB and now they have to prove their QB is capable of getting them to the playoffs. If Allen is even above average with Edmunds, Oliver, and White all playing at a high level this team will be fine. Still worried about a pass rush but if those guys continue to develop then McD and Beane will be here for a while. As much as I am hesitant to give praise of this regime (Beane created the cap crisis and McD let Gilmore walk then blew a 3dd round comp pick), I really like what they have done with the OL. They overpaid for Morse but if he is even close to a top 5 center they should be able to put together a solid line with the mix of veterans and youth on this team. I like bringing back Lee Smith as a blocking TE. Hope they couple that with getting rid of useless FB position. And I like they drafted a TE.
I want them to be successful. I just wish more people on this board would be more objective about the moves made. Most of what a GM does is educated guesses anyways. If they knew what they were doing then there wouldn't be the term bust.

Going into his last season at Ole Miss he was touted as a top 3 pick and plenty talk of him going at 1. He was the top rated HS prospect.
Many thought Oliver was a top 3 guy. Nkemdiche has more height than Oliver but I find both of these guys to be boom or bust head case type of players. Oliver has his chance to boom.
I said it back when Robert Nkemdiche was going through the draft process, the interviews are key for a coaching staff. From
what I have seen of Beane and McD, they have a much better understanding of what and who wins than recent Bills coaches.
Better understanding based on what? They started Peterman? They traded for KB. They signed a CB that quit at half time. McD passed on MVP QB. Beane and McD have proven nothing except they can cut guys. They have made plenty of good moves and I'm as hopeful as anyone. I wanted QB Allen over Darnold and Rosen. I would have made a move up for DE Allen this year but they landed a possible great interior DL without giving up anything. Please be realistic in your assessments. This year will tell us alot.

I can't remember the last time a player won an appeal on a drug suspension. Assuming this sticks our defense will have an easy time in week 2. Just stop Barkley.
LOL... The run defense is a serious concern. They were gashed multiple times last year. Oliver is a rookie. A lot will depend on Edmunds getting significanty better. Needs to diagnose runs better and take better angles to the RB. He is young so I am optimistic he can make a big leap. He is still younger than most rookies.
-
McD’s defense gave up 298 rush yards to New Orleans. It would have been 300 if not for two QB kneel downs. McD’s defense has folded and the Bills have been blown out many times in the last two seasons. Oliver is a rookie and Edmunds has a long way to go to get to even average. There is a lot of promise on this defense but there are also many questions beyond Lorax.

But can a 5th round pick really be considered a "bust" if it doesn't pan out? I don't know, I just wouldn't look at it as bad as if it were a 1st or 2nd round pick that didn't pan out, or even a 3rd round pick.
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't consider a 5th round pick a "bust" if the guy doesn't do well in a short period of time, He may turn out to be average, who knows. We will see how it all plays out soon enough though.
Good point. But many on this board think he will be great and have much higher expectations than most 5th round picks. I would consider a linebacker that can't tackle a bust possibility at any draft position. Again, I think he makes the final cut fairly easily just based on the lack of competition at the backup linebacker spots and McD and Beane (keeping my promise not to combine the names) drafted him.
What is weak link after game 2 of preseason?

The same that it was all last year. The O-line still has question marks at 4 of 5 positions, TE is a disaster, and the pass rush is a concern. Fears of Ed Oliver being too small and being handled easily by NFL lineman are creeping up. 7th round DE is a nice surprise so far. Allen looked better and the WR group looks promising. The RB group looks very good. I wish they would just cut Dimarco and not waste a roster spot on a useless position.
Really need Morse to come back soon. I'm fairly certain Kroft goes to PUP making TE again a mess.
Oh yeah and what about the penalties? A problem all last year and continues this year.
After all that, it's still just the preseason. Let's see what happens in NY. Win those two games and all is good. Lose either and it is a concern. Lose both and you can start looking forward to a new HC and GM search.
