Teams with high end slot receivers and TE's always give the Bills the most problem in the passing game as they can take advantage of what McD's defense gives them.

Agreed. Im not really criticizing the concept. It can work. If they could draw one or two more holding penalties and get better at stopping third and long it will work. You can't drop 7 or 8 on every third and long. That tactic works a lot of the time but sending multiple rushers on third and long can work too.

I would’ve agreed with this last season.  This season, not so much.  Taron Johnson is getting destroyed this season.  Levi player one good game.  Norman hasn’t had any good games, cam Lewis, meh. Hopefully Dane can step up and be the guy opposite tre?  Marlowe has been bad.  Hyde looks to be regressing a slight bit.  I trust Poyer and Tre will do their jobs.

I think we have 1 very good corner and the rest are scrap heap players by the way they’ve played this year.  We blitzed the Miami all game.  All game, we got beat.  LBs, corners, safeties all got roasted by Fitz.  The jets OL, terrible playmakers and no so amazing QB allowed us to bring a lot of heat without having to worry about getting roasted.

I agree with your post.  I just don’t think that we have the secondary to pull it off consistently.  We’ll probably give up some big plays.  That said, blitzing should be an integral piece in our D game-plan and can be instrumental in getting the D off the field. Its up to the coaching staff to dial it up at the right time.  Especially the next 3 weeks, Cam , RW and Kyler.  The cardinals really threw RW off his game in the 4th quarter with their blitzing.

Unclear why but Taron has really regressed. They have a great corner and two solid safeties. Once Levi and Norman are both healthy they can cover most teams. Arizona, Pittsburgh, and Seattle will be a handful with multiple good to great recieving targets.

  2. Can't stop the run sets up play action and short down and distance. The lack of hurries seems consistent with what we see. The win rate by the pass rushers may be high but it is not effectively making a difference on the QB.

McD and Frazier are willing to sit back in their zone coverages and let them dink and dunk down the field hoping for a mistake penalty. Honestly its hard to argue against that, when that is what KC, Jets, and Tenn did to slow Buffalo offense.

There are a few ways to turn the tide. Get better stopping the run to force longer distances on 2nd and 3rd down. Start playing more press coverage. Bills have the secondary to do it. Take even more chances with the blitz. Again they have the secondary to hold up on the back end.

  3. The complaints about officiating and the idea they favor certain teams is intolerable around here.

The other thing that is annoying is when the complainers get basic facts wrong, either about rules or stats. It's not like it is hard to look something up before you post.

That said the Bills played the Patriots with Brady for twice a year and most of the NFL complains about the Patriots so Bills fans have twice the opportunity of most of the rest of the league.

They are the worst defense in the league....

Bills are not much better.  Two of their 7 games have been against arguably the worst offense in the NFL. Seattle needs DE help more than DT. Bills need both (along with a healthy Milano) in my opinion. Benching Murphy or cutting him outright for a new player is addition by subtraction.  And if H. Phillips has not recovered then they need to find another big body and put him on IR.

I actually think buffalo matches up with seattle quite well.  We have always had good defense of deep shots.  I think containing metcalf and locket over the top will be something they are capable of doing.  They need to be smart and disciplined with rush lanes against Wilson though, and contain their rushing attack.

Seattles defense kinda stinks, especially their corners - so putting up points shouldn't be too challenging.  How many theyll need to score will be the challenge.

I agree. They are one dimensional.  They are worse running the ball than Buffalo is. Wilson won't throw three picks against Buffalo. Hopefully we catch them fatigued with west to east travel and Wilson has a slight off night.

I always wonder if the Bills had gotten homefield in 1980 then they probably go to the Super Bowl vs the Eagles. They had two bad losses to the Colts that year which cost them homefield advantage. Then that heartbreaking playoff loss to the Chargers in SD was a tough way to end the season.

Yes but if Ferguson doesn't sprain ankle in week 15 or whatever week it was, then they probably beat San Diego. Bills could have won the whole thing in 1980 with that defense and Cribbs/Butler.

He did run better which probably saved him from being deactivated for the Patriots game.  Was it enough?i don’t know.  It was possible for the bills to activate Yeldon.  I believe our OC really likes what Yeldon brings to the offense.  I am not sure McDermott likes him because he puts the ball on the ground.  You know how McDermott is about protecting the ball.  It will be interesting to see if Yeldon is activated to show something new to the Pats. Maybe not with Brown playing this week

You know his career fumble rate was lower than Singletary and Gore. So I'm not sure where this narrative comes from.

I too think Yeldon should be active but it won't happen. Moss showed good hands and some tackle breaking ability. Barring injury he will be rb 2 the rest of the way.

  7. There is no option to bench him. Klein is slow and terrible. Edmunds has regressed but he wasn't even that good last year. We have all collectively given him a pass because his ceiling seemed so high. He had awful games last year too.

Doubtful this regime will move on from him. Hope he proves us wrong and he starts playing like at least a quality starter. You expect more from a guy that cost you multiple picks but if he can at least be a middle of the road MLB that would be far better than what he is producing now.

They tagged Glenn; they couldn’t tag Gilmore at that point.

And cutting Vlad and Holmes wasn’t enough; they’d have had to cut another FA acquisition.

    That is not true.

Glenn was tagged in 2016 and signed long term contract in May 2016.

Gilmore walked in 2017. And I'm pretty sure they were only net positive 2 free agents that they could have cut by week 10 or something like that. Ducasse was playing marginally better than other guards at that point and they could have cut three WRs and signed any street free agent for the same quality

  9. Who didn't think this schedule was hard? It was why many felt 9-7 would still be a good year. I belive i picked 10-6 with a loss to Rams but a win over Tenn.

Some had Denver being more difficult than Chargers. Pittsburgh was a question mark only because Ben was coming off elbow surgery.

Most knew Miami would be better. Most knew New England would be worse. I thought Cam would be better but many on here felt he was washed up. They may be right but Patriots have terrible skill players so hard to know.

Sweep the division, beat Denver and eak out one more win against one NFC West opponent gets them to 10-6. A loss this week to Pats at home will make 9-7 or even 8-8 more realistic.

Best upset chances are in the NFC West. Seattle is one dimensional and they have to travel. Arizona lost Drake and 49ers are still a MASH unit.

Yes but that has the makings of a one and done division champ in the playoffs if we can’t play with the NFL elite

Already beat elite Rams and lots can happen between now and January including hosting a playoff game.

  10. Romo is the best.

Colllinsworth is second best. I don’t understand why the hate from this board.

I like Archuleta and also Jay Feely is surprisingly good.

    Aikman is the worst

On radio here in Portland, the Seahawks had Warren Moon. He was terrible then got fired for sexual harassment complaint.  Now they have some horrible former linebacker or safety that is so bad I don't even have the interest to look up his name.

Seahawks radio play by play guy is not bad. A not too over the top homer.

    1) he didn’t get traded from Buffalo

    2) he wanted to get paid; it had nothing to do with not wanting to be in Buffalo—that’s just something fans say practically every time a player leaves and gets big money elsewhere

    Exactly.

Whaley and McD could have tagged him but didn't

And then McD and Beane screwed the team out of a 3rd round comp pick by keeping Ducasse and a wr that was terrible

I would like to keep Milano and Edmunds, Milano is the type of LB that you are looking for in todays pass happy NFL. Edmunds is still so young and he makes some amazing plays and some bad ones, I think in time Edmunds will start to minimize the mistakes and get stronger. I would pay Milano a 4 year 50 mil contract right now, he is that valuable to this defense. I would also ask Tre White to take a pay cut to what I wanted to pay him 4 years 60 mil. I think White needs to be given a sugar pill but is told it is the cure to Covid just for the placebo effect. I don't know why but whenever we pay a player top 3 money they turn into garbage.

Inexperience is no longer a valid excuse. If his shoulder is worse than we know then that would explain some things.  But a bad shoulder does not explain poor recognition and poor angles to the the RB.

He needs to move outside.  He can use his athleticism there and be a star.
