MNF: Ravens at Raiders 8:15 ESPN
Ethan in Cleveland replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
11 of 15 for 128 yards 1TD and no picks 7 of 11 completions to WR including the TD pass Obviously a limited QB since only on pace for 256 yards -
Inactivating Zach Moss

Corrected for you. The only ST players that are important is the place kicker and the long snapper. The rest can be filled by street free agents. -
Never once posted Daboll must stay. He was a weak hire with an inconsistent coaching career at the time. But he is a coordinator do its hard to judge with the talent he has or the competition he is facing. A vanilla modern gameplan of 3 WR 1TE 1RB set wins that game. I care a little about the run pass ratio but I care much more about the positon group frequency breakdown. He telegraphed pass to the defense in a game the Bills were winning for 2/3rds or it. That is not smart and not winning football strategy.

Perspective: It's been 1-game since AFC Loss
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Jobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it is silly and it is only 1 week but it feels like Bills 1989. So much pent up anticipation and pressure to perform. I give McD crap all the time but honesty this is one of his strongest traits as a HC. He usually does a good job in keeping the team focused. Case in point the run they went on after the Hopkins miracle TD catch. -

If it worked you would call it genius and deceptive. You can't criticize one play call. You can criticize the game plan. Going 4 and 5 wide nearly 40% of the game played into Pittsburgh's strength. They rush 4 against our 5 OL and they drop 7 against our 4 or 5 wideouts. The numbers are in their favor. -
In-Roster Offensive Line Option

I would have been fine with that and drafted center/guard in the second or third round. -
In-Roster Offensive Line Option

Watt is a devastating pass rusher. How many times did they give Williams any help? Rarely. That is poor coaching. -
Edmunds played better but hardly great. He had one nice run stuff a batted pass and some other routine plays. He was out of position on the deep pass to the TE in the middle of the field. Oliver played well and though I hated the pick at the time I have consistently said it takes time for a DT to develop. He has to show more this year. Yes 50% is good. Hardly makes Beane to be anything but an average to above average GM. He's not he genus some on this board profess him to be. As for draft position - it matters somewhat. They traded up to get Edmunds wasting picks in the process. They may have gotten similar production with a second round pick, paid him less, and kept the pick they traded away. Getting value for Milano (not a Beane pick) and Davis is great.

In-Roster Offensive Line Option

What would you have done? Beane was able to bring back Williams. Ford is still developing. I would have been fine with a C/G in the third round instead of Brown and the Doyle pick makes no dam sense. But would a fifth round guard even make the roster? Most likely not. They have no cap money to spend. I guess they could have gone after a guard and let Milano walk or not sign Sanders. It's easy to say they should do more. -
Bust is an overstatement and I am always careful to use that word too soon. However I think it is more fair to say Oliver, Ford, Epenesa, and Edmunds have all underperformed their draft status. Yes they are all starters and yes Edmunds for a brief 8 or 10 game stretch played like a ProBowler. But for the most part these high draft picks have been at best average to poor. I am still a big fan of Knox (more so than most on this board) but to be fair he has been at best inconsistent too. He has had some really nice picks too in Gabe Davis and the jury is still out on Moss/Singletary.

Daboll reports to McD. The buck stops at the head coach. This loss and the KC loss is all on McDermott. He is the Achilles heel of this team. I just feel this is Tampa Bay with Dungy repeating itself. I will say, Mcd does a good job of rallying his team and righting the ship. He gets the team to respond, that may be his best coaching quality. Hopefully he will learn from this and force Daboll into more balance.

No we don't. This starting 5 never played a single snap together last year -
McDermott Game Day Decision Making
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsFan1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McD is coaching in the wrong era. 53 yard FG is not a big deal even outdoors. Perfect kicking conditions. Bass is a weapon. Need to take advantage of it. -
Miami barely beat New England.

Oh I agree he was not the biggest issue. I was just responding to the notion that 7 yard completions are somehow a bad thing? -

Wow. Didn't the Bills just lose to 7 yard passes all day while our QB was missing wide open guys down the field or pressing it into double coverage? I will take dink and dunk and safe all day long. -
People saying Beane did nothing for the o-line. He brought back Williams and the starting 5 never played together last year. Players can develop. Ford and Boettger can get better. I've never been that enamored with Morse but he is a capable pass blocker and he's the least of the worries on the team. Daboll should be forced to watch every KC game and see what a TE can do for the offense.

Four plays that made the difference
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Xwnyer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are correct. We are stuck with him and his poor decisions. Assuming they make the playoffs this year (which is going to happen) he is the coach in 21 and 22. -
Tyrod to Houston for $12.5 million
Ethan in Cleveland replied to The Jokeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't find it now but there was a thread earlier this summer on most likely rookie QB to be a star. Most chose Lawrence but I went with Trey Lance. I will stick by my predication and check back in two or three years... -

Four plays that made the difference
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Xwnyer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OP you don't even have the four most impactful plays. 1. Missed TD to Sanders 2. Missed blocks on KO return that should have been a TD 3. Blocked punt for TD 4. 4th and 8 and they don't kick a FG McD pisses away money and roster spots on special teams and they still cost us 11 points. -

Criticism does not equate into hate. Allen didn't play well. He missed a wide open TD by 5 yards with no pressure. That just can't keep happening.
