This is pure speculation. How could anyone know any of this information -
Sean McDermott Ranks 5th Among Coaches on EDJ Sports list
Ethan in Cleveland replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is just one aspect of his job. Ourside of the 4th and 3 call against Tampa I've been moslty ok with his in game decisions. I dont get too worked by the choice for going for two or an XP. The percentages aren't that much different. Issues I have with him is roster make-up, lack of player development, in game adjustments, and overall regression of the team. -
A Breakdown of the Failed Fake Punt vs the Buccaneers
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HoofHearted's topic in The Stadium Wall
$3.575M contract for a LB that plays special teams and no defense. How stupid is that. They can get any street FA for $3M less than they are spending on him to do the same thing. One of several dumb moves by Beane wasting cap space on bottom of the roster players You must have blocked out Peterman against the Chargers. Or the Rams last year when the Bills got out to a big lead only to see it all go away in the second half requiring a late JA rally. -
#1 Defense, #8 Offense, 7-6
Ethan in Cleveland replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. I love JA but he missed two TD throws against Pats. Dawkins got blown up in Tenn. I want McDermott gone but I thought he made the right call in Tennessee game. Hated the punt on 4th and 3 against Tampa. 100% agree on pass to Diggs. That was the wrong call. Their defense was gassed. JA could have sat in the pocket all day until someone broke open. Bad decision. Diggs is a great WR but a fade or even a back shoulder is not his route. That is Hopkins or Adams. Same way you don't throw a fade to Tyrese Hill. Diggs is an elite route runner with elite hands. Let him run a real pattern to get open. -

Just for clarification, does anyone on this board think the Bills have the best defense in the league? -
Hughes, Star, Addison gone. Hughes is already on his last year so wouldn't that already be factored into cap space ? Restructure Morse again. Trade Edmunds Reworking Dawkins and White by converting salary to bonus money will fre up more cap space. Williams will be a really interesting decision. This is all good but how will Beane spend it? Hopefully not spending significant money on special teams scrubs and on real players. Any UDFA can do what Matakevich and Jones do for far less cost.

100% agree. But Sanders in one on one coverage without safety help is a throw JA should attempt, especially against that secondary. Sanders likely blows right past that guy in a few more steps

How to fix the reffing problem in the NFL
Ethan in Cleveland replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
First of all they get it right an amazingly high percentage of the time for how fast the game moves be it penalties, possession, or spotting the ball. A few fixes 1. Offsetting penalties - a simple redo is stupid. If the offense was called for holding but the Defense was flagged for DPI 30 yards down field how is that offsetting? 2. If the defender jumps into the neutral zone unless he has made contact he should be allowed to get back unless the center snaps the ball. If the OT moves in response to the movement into the neutral zone then it should be blown dead and replayed with no penalty to either player. 3. All plays should be eligible for review from a truly independent body. All boundary plays should be reviewed by the booth not just possession or scoring plays just as it is under 2 min. When they moved to reviewing PI it became quite clear even obvious mistakes were not going to be corrected. They were policing their own and chose not to make them look bad. Coaches get 1 challenge per game and if they win the challenge they get another. 4. PI on underthrown balls - the defender has no chance to avoid this penalty and it is unfair. This should not be a foul. NBA had something similar where a defender was charged a foul if the guy bringing up the ball stopped for no reason just to draw contact. Same principle applies here. It's physics too. A defender can't backpedal as fast as a guy can run forward so they must turn their hips and run with the WR. At that point they can't look back and stop at the same time the WR stops. There needs to be a chance for the defender to make a football play. 4. Defenseless WR - if the WR changes the strike point the defender should not be flagged as long as they follow the other rules such as not hitting with the crown of helmet or launching themselves -
How to fix the reffing problem in the NFL

Not so easy. It's not just the ball, it's when they were down. -
Leslie Frazier's interview Monday 12/13
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
How can you say the defense is good? Look at the teams and the QBs they have played. If you said we don't know if the defense is any good or not I would buy that. Because they do make stops from time to time. They forced only two turnovers against Pittsburgh, Tenn, Pats, Jax, and Tampa. Special teams got a turnover and there was a turnover on downs against Tampa. Otherwise most of the stat padding has been against garbage teams and even worse QBs. -

McD is the HC. It's all on him to make those decisions. -
That play to throw to the back may have been scripted just to set up other stuff later. JA has no pressure so there is no reason for the dump off other than that was the plan all the way. Sure looks like something they should try again but the problem is Davis doesn't have the speed Sander has. If you try that with Diggs the safety probably rotates over. Davis is fast enough and he blocks down field well. So you may get the corner to bite if JA fakes a pass to the flat first at the same time Davis does a stop and go.

Etienne thought he was going to be a Bill
Ethan in Cleveland replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sanders has been getting open consistently this season. Allen has missed him a few times. All great QBs make their WRs better. I have no problem letting Davis get more reps. But, lets keep the focus where is should be. The oline is terrible, Edmunds is the worst player on defense, and McDermott is a gutless fraud. McDermott for as much as I want him gone is not going anywhere. Beane can address the oline and they can trade Edmunds to someone the unsuspecting team that will say for three years he is young. -
I'm not anti-balance. But I'm sure people said the same thing in 1982 when San Francisco was throwing 3 yard put patterns to the full back instead of running the ball. There are numerous ways to win in the NFL. Had one break gone the Bills way on the final drive no one would be talking about how much Allen passed the ball

Myth or Fact: we can't stop the run...
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Any team that chooses to run the ball against the Bills has done it with relative ease. Yes the Bills made some nice stops. But they gave up long TD run and Edmunds couldn't stop Fournette in the hole despite having a free shot at him 2 yards into the backfield. Edmunds is awful and the run defense is awful and this coaching staff is a joke. -
Yes you are missing the fact that winning is the biggest problem for this team now.

Dane Jackson played pretty well
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is good scheme. Best way to stop Gronk was always to cover him with CB. He's too fast for a LB. And he is bigger than everyone anyways. Dane was good enough to be CB#2 or at least solid depth. Levi has been solid all year too. If they both come back it will give insurance that White can recover fully before being pressed into action. -
Is this the week for Mitch Trubisky ?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Its an interesting question. At what point is a hobbled Allen less likely to generate a win than a healthy Trubisky? Any time they play an injured starter at any position you have to wonder if the backup would be better simply because they are healthy. My guess is if Allen can walk he plays.
