Honestly what do you do moving forward?

Lol, looks like Beane agreed... -
OT: The sudden existential crisis in New England
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
He got his team with a rookie QB to the playoffs and beat the Bills throwing 3 times. Be honest who would you have rather had in those last 13 seconds, McDermott or Belichick??? Bills have Allen and the Patriots are stuck with Belichick for a GM -
Matt Barkley Back? (Yep! deal not yet known)
Ethan in Cleveland replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
He sucks. I'd rather take my chances with a rookie than Barkley. -
Star released. Pre-6/1 per Joe B, $1.5M cap savings.

To be fair, most of us praised McDermott game decisions up until the 13 second melt down. Most of us thought he had gotten more aggressive during the year. Still hard to explain the Pats MNF loss. Nobody said Beane has not had good free agent signings. However many of us think he overpaid on guys like Murphy,Star, Addison, Butler, Morse. He has done well retaining guys. He has been far better with trades. And he did get a bit lucky with Allen. Beane was drafting a QB at all costs in 2018 and if Allen went to the Jets we would have been playing him twice a year with Darnold or Rosen. As for Star, he played well enough just not up to his contract. Similar to Oliver. He has been good but not 7th overall in the draft good. -

Edmunds is enough...lol -
Agree 100% on Whitner. Manuel was rated a 3rd round talent. So yes Nix did at least trade down and get a little extra value.
-
I think most would agree they need a young WR. I cant imagine them not adding one by round 2. Would be interesting to see if Beane would part with a second round pick for an established guy still on his rookie deal.
-
This 100%! The reality is there is no difference between player 15 and player 50. The bust rate for the entire first round is 50% and 27% for the entire second round. That tells me there is little difference for those guys at the bottom of round 1 and top of round 2. Therefore you draft for need within reason. Every year there seems to be a run on a position or two. So if 7 CBs go off the board by pick 25 then sure take a WR or OT. If you avoid ridiculous reaches like EJ Manuel you will do as well as everyone else.

I'd go corner in first round. Bills will be in more 2 TE sets this year and will run more. No idea how well White will come back. Heck if they went CB, WR, CB with top three picks I'd be fine with that, especially if they traded back once. McKenzie I think will fill the old John Brown role with more deep crosses that will pressure the defense and allow Diggs and Davis to work underneath and middle. For WR, the Bills lack a WR that has size and adequate speed. Benjamin was a bust. TO was shot. The last good one was Moulds. Would love to see them add a 6'4 205lb guy that is fast enough.

Good analysis. Pre-draft I would like to see them sign the backup QB, a veteran CB, and maybe one cheap RB. I would trade Edmunds for a second and sign Wagner. I don’t think Beane will do that. I’d then target the draft for CB, WR, OL, and LB. As for trades, unless they move Edmunds I can’t see how they could trade for a guy like DK or Lockett. So I don’t think they make a big move with any other day 1 or day 2 picks. I would draft best punter in the 5th round and then trade away all 6th and 7th round picks for picks in 2023. Almost none of those players would make the roster and they can sign a bunch of UDFA for camp bodies and PS.

How many roster spots are still in play?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
I disagree with the run game assessment. Once Brown was at RT, Bates at LG and they committed to using Singletary most of the time, the run game looked solid. The OL should be better with Saffold. Brown was far from great at RT so that is a concern. Blocking from the TE position is still mediocre at best, though Knox seemed to be a bit better. WR blocking is solid. And then you add Kromer. I think the outlook for the run game and a more balanced attack is quite good. They will add another RB in the draft. I agree CB#2 is far more importna than QB#2. As with any NFL team, if the starter is lost for a significant length of time the rest of the roster doesn't matter. Marriota is still my top choice. I would have been fine with Tyrod Taylor or Fitz too. Either of those guys can manage a game or two. I'd be surprised if they don't sign a veteran arm . -

Perfect post. Agree with every word. -
Bills inquired on LB Alex Singleton
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall
With the talent they added on defense so far and assuming they add a first round CB, he could be the worst of the starting 11. -
Add a veteran minimum guy and draft CB#2 in the first round
-
Ward was good too and I'm not trying to take too much away from him. However, many of his blocks would now be considered illegal crack back blocks. He delivered a lot of cheap shots with blindside hits.

BLOCKBUSTER! Packers Trade Adams to Vegas

I agree. Too much to give up and too much to pay. -
BLOCKBUSTER! Packers Trade Adams to Vegas

He is but not that much better. -
First I disagree that Beane "is not a trade up guy". He did for Allen, Edmunds, Ford, and Knox. In fact I think he has only traded down once in his tenure. That being said, I think the he should only trade up if he falls in love with a new Middle Linebacker and moves Edmunds for a second round pick to use to move up in the draft. A suitable WR or CB will be there in rounds 1 and 2. As I posted in another thread I feel there are just not that many open roster spots. I believe the Bills currently have 5 picks in rounds 5-7. Beane should take a punter with a day 3 pick and trade at least two or three day three picks away for picks in 2023.

Cutting Star Lotulelei- why not ask him to retire?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Commish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Contracts go with the player via trade. That is why no one wanted Cole. No one will want Star either. And trade or cut has no bearing on salary dead cap hit. -

I agree with that a few years ago but the roster is so stacked right now across the board. But there is typically a surprise each year -
How many roster spots are still in play?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
He hasn't made the final roster in two years. I guess he is an after thought for me. But good call, he would be in the mix for final WR spot. If they draft a guy in the first three rounds I can't see how Hogins would have a spot. -

Of course not, I just assumed CB#2 was a first round draft pick. My error. -

They will need to make some had decisions in the future. Every team cuts players but your comments are well taken. -

Good catch. I edited the original post. I was assuming CB#2 will be a high draft pick
