I have explained it multiple times. He learned in Carolina under two GMs who taught him you draft defensive line early and often. I crunched the numbers again the other day. In his years as a senior exec with the Panthers they spent about 30% of day 1 and 2 picks on defensive line and about 50% on defensive front 7 and Beane's numbers are right around those spots too.

Very little to show for the investment

Oliver is very good but not a top 10 talent

Rousseau has been injured and inconsistent.  He still could be great.

    Epenesa is terrible. Basham gone.

Carter will take a few years to develop.

Edmunds was good but again for a first round pick he disappointed.

Bernard was a revelation last season. Have to see if he can repeat the performance. Williams hopefully steps up this year. Love his speed and hitting ability

All this draft capital and they still had to spend millions on Miller,Jones, and Settle.

Thad Brown just roasted Coleman for turtling up on that pass.  He said if he were established as a receiver in the league, he could understand it...why risk injury in a preseason game.  But since Coleman isn't an established receiver, he needs to lay out to make the catch. Seriously?  So he lays out, makes the catch and gets seriously injured.  What sense does that make?

It doesn't.  It's stupid old school thinking.

Blame the QB for a crap pass.

  3. MVS and Claypool out.

Not revisionist history when most of us wanted Beane to draft two WRs.  Instead we have a safety that is broken already and a back up DT.

But we have a guy that walks in bare feet, has long hair, and is a team cheerleader...

Oh man this could get ugly ....

Hope Kincaid, Shakir, Cook, and Samuel can carry this group

  4. I'm on call tonight so I may watch this game.

I'm really only interested in three people.

I want to see how Coleman looks against NFL corners.

I want to see VanPran hopefully go against at least the Steelers 2nd team. If I was McDermott I would have started VanPran this game and see what he can do.

Lastly I want to see Solomon 1:1 pass rushing

The Houston brodcast of the giants texans game just took a shot at Josh Allen.

There was a simple 5 yard slant from stroud to diggs and the play by play guy said Diggs is wide open, who knows if  Josh Allen would have but stroud can.

    WTF?

Try that throw against Bernard and it will be a pick six

I see a lot of people saying “well, if we get him back for the end of season/playoffs, that’s what matters”

    ….

What if Dorian Williams grows into the role?  I’m not pushing him out for Milano in that scenario.

Dorian Williams has a chance to lock down that LB spot for good if he makes the jump.   And if he does, that’s that, imo.

100% agree. We don't even know if Milano can play anymore coming off the leg/knee injury. If Williams is playing great then keep playing him and let Milano go this offseason.

With whom? Where is this negative energy beside on this message board with a certain crowd? Saying it does not make it the truth. I think they are loose and ready to move on without the Diggs distraction. We lost a guy who could be a talented WR, but I’m not sure how much worse off we are without him.

Umm a significant number of the national media has decided the Bills window has closed.

I'm not saying they are correct, but even casually paying attention to national coverage you can sense that many are down on the Bills.  It stareted with the purge of Poyer, Morse, White, and Hyde, and worsened when they didn't get a top WR in the draft, and then came to a head when they moved on from Diggs.  All the positive energy is around the Chiefs, 49ers, Lions, Packers, and Texans now.

Bills are not alone.  The national media is down on Dallas, Philadelphia, Minnesota, and the bottom feeders like Raiders, Panthers, and Broncos

  7. There is a lot of negative energy surrounding this team right now. It's no secret I want to move on from McDermott. But if he has a good quality it is rallying the team through adversity.  I don't want to hear excuses though. Im tired of it every year. Just win.

I have faith in Allen. I think this is the year he wins MVP. He will cut his turnovers down and be an assassin in the red zone. Cook might be his stiffest competition for MVP as I think he goes for 1750 combined yards. No WR or TE will catch more than 80 passes but I think 5 guys will have over 50 ( Kincaid 75, Knox 52, Shakir 79, Samuel 55 +20 rushes, and Cook 64), with Coleman getting about 40.

If Allen plays all year, Bills go 5-1 in the division and win AFC East with record of 12-5.

Whether it would happen or not is doubtful, I would fire McDermott for anything less than a SuperBowl appearance.  He's already wasted the best years of QB play in franchise history. I would let Belichick and his new girlfriend take over in 2025.

Beane gets one last off-season with cap room to maneuver. No Championship by 2025 and he goes too.

    1. Falcons win their division and play in the Super Bowl (Kirk Cousins MVP of the league)

    2. Raiders win 4 games total.

    3. Browns win their division.

    4. Bills and Ravens will be wild card teams and play each other in the afc championship game (not sure who wins yet)

    5. Texans win their division

    6. Packers win their division

    7. Eagles win their division

Only chance Browns win division is if they bench Watson after game 3.  Otherwise they will finish last in the division.

I made no comment about where Klein lined up.

I stated only that he was abused in the passing game and was a huge factor in the Bills' inability to stop the Chiefs offense. These things are objectively true.

Yes but that was because Bernard missed the game not because Milano missed the game.  Milano isnt even that good in man to man coaverage and no LB can cover Kelce in man to man.

Milano was an amazing zone coverage LB but he is 30 and it's time to let Williams play.  If he can't play and McD can't coach him up, then why the hell do we keep letting McD and Beane make these decisions.

Right no but I'm talking about actual reality that actually happened last year.

AJ Klein -- an off-ball linebacker, same as Milano -- played in the Chiefs playoff game and was absolutely abused by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce all game long. It was arguably the biggest factor in the Bills' inability to stop the Chiefs offense in a home playoff game that could've sent them to the AFC Championship game.

This really happened. It was on TV and everything.

Were we watching the same game? Because Klein lined up where Bernard does and played MLB most of the game not where Milano/Dodson did.

  11. Non-Bills

    1. Texans are #1 seed in AFC

    2. Chargers make AFC Championship game in Harbaugh year 1

    3. Deshaun Watson is benched by game 8

    4. Saleh and Sirianni are both fired by week 13

    Bills

    1. Cook - Goes over 1750 all-purpose yards

    2. Kincaid and Knox combine for 160 catches

    3. Rousseau and Miller each get double digit sacks

    4. Epenesa regresses even further and is a healthy scratch the final five games of the year

When we drafted Dorian Williams in the 3rd last year, everyone cried that it was a wasted pick, as if depth in the NFL is not a necessity.

Fast forward a calendar year, and Matt Milano has now suffered a serious injury in back-to-back seasons and is set to be out until the playoffs.

This goes to show that drafting depth is NOT the crazy, dumb, bad idea and waste of a pick that many cried about.

Now we just need to hope that Williams can step up at WILL the same way that Bernard did at MIKE last year. If he can, Bernard/Williams could very likely be the LB duo that leads this defense for the next five years.

Not exactly true. We called it a wasted pick because he was undersized MLB and on draft night they said he would play MLB not OLB.

    That's a bit much.

If this team is still in a playoff/division race in December and he is available to come back that would be a huge uplifting thing.

If we are in the playoff race at that point, then most likely Williams or whoever is playing that spot may be doing just fine.

We all want to think they are still competing this year, but the way Beane is operating he is planning for a big splash this offseason and a run in 2025.

Milano is already 30. They need to give Josh a raise and pay Rousseau this off season.

It's harsh but we don't even know if he would have been any good coming off the leg fracture.
