They didn't rule out White until the last possible moment last year. They put him on PUP on Aug 30th. Up until then all we heard was he was rehabbing. I wouldn't put any stock in anything they say until he is either activated or they put him on PUP list. If there is any chance he can play in the first month I would put him on the final 53 and healthy scratch him a couple weeks if necessary. But as others have said, its more likely they are conservative and go the PUP route. Honestly that wouldn't be terrible. He is most important in the playoffs not in September.

Zero Bills Preseason Games on National TV
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cancel them all. They are useless unnecessary injury risk games. Bills staff probably already knows 51 of the 53 guys to make the roster. They probably know 7 of the 10 guys they want on the PS. I wouldn't play a single starter a single snap in preseason. And I'm right. COVID season proved the quality of play was no different without preseason games. -
Click bait. Whoever thinks Allen is not good enough to win as a passer is not good enough to be a coach in the NFL, college, or high school level.

Rookie Playing Time in McDermott Era
Ethan in Cleveland replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall
Excellent data. A few caveats though... Allen didn't start right away. Somehow this coach thought it better to start Peterman. I don't for one second believe he thought Peterman was better. I think he was of the mindset to let Allen sit and learn as many coaches do with young QBs. But because Peterman was trash he was forced to play Allen. Edmunds, White, Dawkins, Oliver, and Knox all started because there were literally no other options. Bills got rid of the previous starters and did nothing in free agency to replace them. They were all good need picks by Beane except Oliver which I still hate that pick. Oliver started but was relegated to second string mid-season. He always seems to look good in camp and then rarely makes plays during the season. I agree though the narrative is overblown. I think if you go back it stems from Gore getting reps over Singletary and effectively benching Cook for his first carry fumble - which was pop-warner level coaching. Add Elam not even dressing for a game and it added fuel to a fire that really shouldn't exist. -
Derek Anderson in 2007?

Can't see them cutting Shakir. He showed plenty last year and he is the only guy on the roster that can back up Diggs/Davis on the outside. But I could also see him as a healthy scratch much of the year if Kincaid is as good as advertised. However, I'd rather have an extra WR on game day than an extra RB. Of course i hate the fact we even carry a FB and wish they would just get rid of Gilliam.

Two week training camp predictions
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fair enough. I've been biased against Epenesa since he was drafted. I like Basham's heft on goal line and run downs. Epenesa is a complete liability against the run and he mostly has picked up garbage sacks. I like our other pass rushers more. But you may be right. -
Anyone have any surprise cuts or surprise players to make the 53 Pre camp I think I posted they would only keep 9 DL. Now I think they will keep 10 with Miller on PUP list to start the year. The DT rotation looks solid. I think they will keep an extra DE again this year. Rousseau Floyd Basham Miller(PUP) Oliver Phillips Ford Jones Settle #10 - Epenesa or Ray Surprise cut - Bernard. He does nothing well. He has no size nor instincts. If he was drafted in the 5th or 6th round it would be a non-story.
-
Neither did Zach Thomas Yup becoming the Hall of the Very Good. And I'd say the same thing about Tasker and Levy. Neither should be in the Hall of Fame.
-
Fair enough. But its more likely he would have taken Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold if Allen was gone. GM that took Mayfield - fired GM that took Rosen and Murray - fired GM that took Darnold- fired Miss on a first round QB is a career death blow. Never ever have I said he was inept. I just push back on the he is a genius nonsense and that he is infallible in some way because he drafted Allen.
-
Why do you think he does? Without Allen what has he really accomplished? If Browns or Jets take Allen he would be out of a job by now. He has as many misses as he does hits. Bills could do a lot worse but Beane is not infallible. Agreed. Knox and Kincaid if used correctly can be devastating.
-
Nobody looked as bad as Bernard did last year. Even Epenesa, Basham, and Johnson looked better than Bernard did. I agree with your 6 DB 1 LB idea. That puts the 7 best defenders on the field on the back end in obvious passing down and distances. You can still blitz a safety from this group if you want to send 5 guys.

Josh Allen goes #1 overall to the Browns in a 2018 Redraft
Ethan in Cleveland replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rice is the best ever. Lawrence Taylor is the best defender of all time Bruce is in my top 5 defenders of all time ... Taylor, White, Sanders, Bruce, and Lott. That's becuase they drafted Perry Tuttle in first round of 1982. One of the biggest Bills draft busts of all time. He lasted only two seasons. He makes Gabe Davis look like Steve Largent when it comes to catching the ball. Tuttle was the absolute worst. -
Our and my point is we are not elite at OT, DT, and DE. With limited resources as you said you can't waste 3rd round picks on project players at positions that are not of need. They play 2 LBs the vast majority of the time. Whoever is not the starting MLB has traditionally been the backup for both LB spots. Best case scenario, Milano stays healthy all year and the kid sits all year.
-
Yes just take one for the sake of taking one. Take the best guy on the board for a position of need. A backup WLB is not a need for a team in a championship window. The need was OT and DL. Beane did a nice job post draft addressing the DL at both DT and Edge so kudos there. But drafting a guy who had no hope of competeting for the open MLB spot and to backup a guy that never leaves the field makes no sense. Despite all the talk of draft grades these GMs are no better at predicting a 2nd round pick vs a 5th round pick who will be a star. Milano is case in point. So take a guy at a position of need and hope it works out. Wouldn't everyone feel better if we had another young OT prospect or DE to compete as opposed to a WLB? If it was 2002 and they actually played a 4-3 defense it would be different. They play 2 LBs almost exclusively. No need for a backup for Milano with the other linebackers on the roster.
-
You are correct. Don't understand this coaching staff. Elam was the best defender on the field in the playoffs. Was far better than White. Let the kid play.
-
Awesome 3rd round pick on a guy that will probably be a healthy scratch the entire year. What a waste. Should have been a DE, DT, or OT.

Outside of MLB, Where are the Bills Worse in 2023?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall
Safety may be worse in that both starters are old and coming off significant injuries. DE is worse than the start of last year as Miller is still unable to play. Overall when he comes back the DL should be better than last year. RB on paper should be better. Singletary wasn’t great but he wasn’t bad either. Stayed healthy. Decent receiving threat. -
Nothing would happen. He's a career backup safety. At its' core, he got injured just like thousands of other players that get hurt and can't play at the NFL level again. He was not playing at a very high level before he got hurt. He was vastly better than Johnson for sure. He goes on with life hopefully with some money saved and a healthy mind and body. All that said he still seems like the 4th best safety on the team. What might get him cut is if they keep an extra smurf linebacker and use him as a big nickel instead of a fourth safety.
-
Yup. That's why he has not been restructured. If he doesn't rebound he will be a salary cap cut next offseason

Training Camp 7/31 9:45 AM - Full pads this week

I agree. Just wishful thinking on my part to get Wagner. Their RBs are injured again and we probably have one too many for the roster. -

I'm a McD critic, but his defense played well in the 2015 playoffs. Beat Russell Wilson and Carson Palmer and then completely shut down the Broncos and the broken down Manning in the SuperBowl. -

Just to be clear he said he was alright after the Jets wrecked his elbow. He is not going to admit anything. I'm not saying he actually was hurt. I'm just saying Josh would never admit it if he was. -

Actually it is his size. He's too small to play MLB. He's 14 pounds below your average weight you calculated. I completely agreed with letting Edmunds walk. He was a fraud. Just don't understand Beane's thinking with Bernard and Dorian Williams. Would love to trade one of our running backs to Seattle for Wagner.
