  1. This is accurate. With a top 3 QB anything can happen. Need a little luck with injuries and need to hit on some rookies and first year players to contribute. Probably need your QB to take a bit of a hometown discount and probably need a couple vets to give you a Championship opportunity discount. So the window with Allen playing at a high level will never be closed, but it could be more or less open from year to year depending on the supporting cast.
  2. Anything less than the AFC Championship game this year with a healthy Allen and it is time to move on from McDermott with or without Beane. I know many on here think this is insane and I also know many agree with me. On paper this is the best DL and secondary McD has ever had, albeit a bit on the older side. On paper the OL looks as good as it ever has. For me it is win now for this head coach. He robbed us of one championship with 13 seconds. He was masterful last year dealing with adversity and he deserves credit for that. Now it is time to at least make the Conference Championship game again. If not I want Allen to have another head coach to give us a shot at a SuperBowl
  3. Not sure if already posted, but Panthers cut Deion Jones. He fits the Bills pattern smallish ILB (6'1" 227lbs) and is a former Panther. Seems like he has been injured a bunch the last two years, but some articles say he was playing well in preseason. Any interest from anyone? Any thoughts?
  4. Seemed like a decent signing but he has been terrible every moment he has played. At this point I'd go with Anderson and Bates as your jack of all trades back up OL. Both can play all the spots on the OL in a pinch. Yes if there is a good OT that can be found in this round of cuts go after him. But that seems unlikely at this point.
  5. Good summary. Honest question, 2 star players(Allen/Diggs) in 6 drafts one coming via trade. Is that good enough? I think he has other solid picks like you pointed out. I love Knox and Taron Johnson but still don't like the Oliver pick and second contract. Hoping Rousseau flashes this year. Every GM has busts. But he is absolutely butchering day 2 of the draft which is where the core of the team should come from. Kincaid and Torrence can quiet the critics like me. Guys like AJE and Bernard make me question who is actually calling the draft shots, Beane or McDermott. Let's just see how it all works out.
  6. Half those moves were made before the draft. Everyone knew Beane was taking a QB. The others were made draft day and to move ahead of Arizona to get Allen was excellent work. I would argue had Cleveland or NY taken Allen Beane would still have taken a QB and most likely it would have been one of the three busts Darnold, Mayfield, or Rosen. Elway could have also taken Allen but he let him slip by. We will never know. You can't discount a little bit of luck in addition to the skill to move up. Also remember Beane gave away multiple picks to move up and take Edmunds. Obviously Edmunds was at a minimum a very good player. But he wasn't good enough to justify multiple picks and obviously not good enough to justify a second contract from Beane(with multiple mitigating factors no doubt).
  7. Gross oversimplification. Allen has won more games. He got the QB. Outside of that he’s probably average. If Oliver doesn’t get better and Elam is a bust then he is probably below average.
  8. And if Cleveland or Jets take Allen then Beane would have been out of a job last year. He got partially lucky drafting Allen. Since then he has pissed away several picks moving up for guys. His success rate is no better than average. If Elam is a bust he really starts to look bad. Can't miss on this many high round guys and stay competitive. Oliver isn't even that good. Better hope Rousseau is a double digit sack guy this year. That said Kincaid and Torrence look good so far this year and maybe he found a late round gem in Bedford. Just really hurts to invest this much into awful DL players. AJE probably doesn't even make the roster of a quarter of the NFL teams.
  9. All he got for Basham was a late round pick swap. What the actual F? Wow. Lots of Beane apologists on this board are going to have to explain this to me.
  10. Unfortunately he's polite to opposing offense tackles too
  11. Remember Rousseau and Oliver were playing hurt and Phillips was lost with a bad shoulder. Also McD/Frazier started AJE a few games just to show us how truly awful he is before moving Lawson into the starting role. With Floyd and a healthy Rousseau and Oliver they should be fine. And I dont even like Oliver and I'm saying that. I liked the Ford signing too but he has not shown much in preseason and could be a surprise cut.
  12. We all knew he was going on the PUP months ago. Let's just hope we don't deal with another White situation where he is cleared but not playing. Doubt that will be the case though. Agree with others. No reason to rush him back. They have enough bodies to get through a month without him.
  13. Agree. Still don't trust McD to play the right guys. In the end if White is solid any of these three guys will be fine at CB#2. Wonder who is the backup for Taron Johnson?? Do they go with Jackson or Elam if Benford starts, or does nickel go to Rapp or a guy like Neal.
  14. Agree. Guard position on paper looks as good as it has in a couple decades. If Torrence keeps playing well and Bates slides to C next year, they will be solid up the middle for the next three years. Let's them invest in OT to replace Dawkins next year.
  15. Benford is a late round gem. Both safeties are likely gone after this year. We really don't know how White will rebound this year. Keep all 4 CBs for 2023 and see how the season unfolds. Right now the depth is far more important than a draft pick next year.
  16. Here is another guy I'd cut in favor of more depth at other spots. I'd cut Quentin Morris. I'd much rather carry an extra OL for blocking than Morris. Bills will be fine with Knox as the primary TE and Kincaid taking a few snaps at TE as well. Many people on here like to remind me Gilliam can take snaps at TE as well. Don't see much use for Morris now. He's not really an elite blocker which is what you want out of your third TE and he's not much of a threat in the pass game. I'd prefer ther just line up Bates as an extra OL in heavy packages and use the extra roster spot for another OL depth guy. Maybe that allows you to keep McGovern off IR. Agree!
  17. One. AJE is traded for a LB or OT.
  18. I'd cut Matakevich and put Spector on IR to make room for Neal and another player. My disdain for the FB position is well known, but as many have pointed out Gilliam is as close to lock as anyone on the team. Matakevich can't play his position. Neal and Lewis can. Shorter might be able to as well. I would only go with 5 LBs with Milano, Dodson, Bernard, Williams, and Klein. Why carry 6 linebackers when almost every game they don't dress one of them. The last three can play special teams. This opens a spot to keep an extra player at WR, DB, or OL.
  19. The players union should fight to cancel all preseason games As for canceling then due to injury, unless it is truly life and death life Hamlin I'm afraid you just need to resume playing. They've never cancelled games in the past for head and neck injuries. The reality is in a 17 game schedule there is just no opportunity to cancel a game and make it fair. NBA, NHL, or MLB maybe but not NFL. Just too few games.
  20. If what you posted is true then it is definitely worth it. Beane butchered the comp pick opportunity with Gilmore. He can't screw this up too. An extra 3rd round pick is one of the ways you retool while on a franchise history QB contract.
  21. Bills have been up and down in the second round. Dawkins, Cordy Glenn, and Robert Woods probably the best 2nd round picks in the last decade. All very good players. Bills used a 2nd to move up and get Edmunds. The worst will be Ford or Kjoundo. Darby and Zay Jones have carved out decent careers. Epenesa and Ragland are about the same. Ragland had a bit more impact and started far more games mainly for the Chiefs but didn’t last that long. You may be correct Epenesa might hang around as a fringe DE for a few more years. That of course is the recent past. My favorite player of all time was a second round pick - Thurman Thomas !!!
  22. Third string DE taken in the second round is a bust. Epenesa was a bad draft pick. He does nothing well. Jury is still out on Basham and Elam. My guess is Bernard is a colossal bust but I am willing to withhold judgment until he sees more live action. Kyle Allen struggled against guys who will not be in the NFL in 4 days. Just like most teams, Bills are doomed if Josh Allen misses any significant time. Bills know that too, that’s why they were in the Trey Lance hunt. They know Kyle and Matt are terrible. At least with Lnce there might be some athleticism to build upon.
  23. Honest question. What has Harty and Sherfield done to earn spots over Shakir, Shorter, and Isabella? I've not seen much from Harty or Sherfield. I really like Shorter's size and he's one of those ST guys I like that can actually play his position.
  24. I'm a Davis fan but have no defense for him today. Another flat out drop and the stats are what they are. Diggs needs 20 more targets during the season than compared to last year. They need to ride him to the SuperBowl and use him like the top 3 WR he is. Kincaid and Knox need to be option #2/3 on this offense. Let Davis pick up the scraps until he can prove he won't drop the easy ones and kill drives.
  25. Wrong. You should always draft for need. Torrence was a need. Kincaid was a need. Allen Edmunds Oliver Rousseau all need picks. Just becuase a need pick doesn't work out doesn't mean it is the wrong strategy. A BPA philosophy is silly and is never actually followed by anyone. What if a DT or S was BPA this first/second round and they passed on a pass catcher and a guard for another DT or S? A tiny MLB from Baylor was not a need. A backup RB was not a need. Last year the need was to get an OT or another OL. They failed and had to spend dollars on McGovern.
