  1. Jets will be the story of the NFL for the first month. Would not be surprised to see a Bills Jets opening week game to add to the hype.
  2. If he broke the record (which he won't even get half way there) it would be because he never lines up as TE. People need to stop calling this guy a TE. The asterisk would be needed not be needed because of the number of games but it would be needed because he really isn't a TE. And in fact if he turns out to be successful when his next contract is due his agent will argue he should be getting 5th year extension based off of a WR not a TE.
  3. Opportunity cost He's too good to trade because it leaves a gaping hole in the defense and you are not committed to him beyond this year. He's not good enough to extend because there is a salary cap and you can't pay everyone. If you extend Oliver you really eat up a lot of cap in the future.
  4. Not trying to be too glib but the team's success will hinge on exactly what it has for the last three years. Allen's arm and McD's coaching. Allen's talent has been good enough for a deep playoff run and the coaching staff has not been good enough to get them a championship. Some of that has changed since last year. Dorsey has a year of experience and they may be maturing their offensive philosophy. McD is now taking full ownership of the defense. Will it be enough? I hope so. I am encouraged from what they are doing. It's easy to say SB or bust, but on the contrary in this AFC they could be a great team and still not get to the SB. I am a McDermott skeptic. He has built a great culture but he is outcoached in the playoffs. I'm not sure he is even the fifth best coach in the AFC. He is #1 in culture and team building but in terms of strategy I would put Reid, Payton, Peterson, and Taylor ahead of him and then it is probably a tie between McD, Belichick without Brady, and maybe even McDaniel. I am optimistic this team can go all the way with Allen. He's the best player they have had since Bruce Smith. We have the QB. Barring injury they will be a tough team to beat all year. They could be 11-5 and be a better team in the playoffs than they were a year ago.
  5. I'd be fine keeping him. Get rid of the FB and you can keep an extra RB.
  6. Every team in the NFL is in nickel more than 50% of the time. Johnson is a top 4 player on this defense
  7. Stephen A is the second dumbest person on TV preceded by Skip Bayless.
  8. The gap such that it existed was about coaching and injuries. We don't have a SB trophy because of coaching. McD is now the DC. Dorsey has a year of experience. Should be better but as you know I'm a McD skeptic. Injuries can't possibly be as bad as last year. White should be better. Miller should be back at some point. And the safeties should be better even if one of the gets hurt again. I think the OL will be better which will be important but only to the extent that Dorsey gets better. The offense was excellent when Saffold played ok for the first few weeks and Allen was taking what the defense gave them. Something changed in that Green Bay second half and they never recovered. I think we are worse at MLB but I was an Edmunds skeptic all along and I'm not backpedaling now. Edmunds made a few plays here and even if he did affect the passing game I doubt it was by that much. The problem is Bernard is just awful. But I'm sticking with my theory it just doesn't matter much on defense. It didn't matter in the SB. It's still all on Allen. He has to will this team to victory in the playoffs. I think he was mentally shot by the Cinci game. Elbow, running for his life, face of the franchise with the Hamlin thing all caught up to him. If they make his life easier this year and he doesn't put the ball in harms way 3 less time, the Bills will win the division by 2 games and host another playoff game. Hopefully the rest of the AFC West can play better and give us a shot at home field.
  9. I was responding to the Mike Mayock comments Schneider is as good as any of them. He has had some great picks and some misses.
  10. Good post! If it wasn't to be Bush everyone thought Young might be the choice given the Texas history. I think the other ridicule here is that they probably could have moved down a spot or two and still gotten Williams. It took a few years as Bush was good and Young won ROY their rookie years but soon it was obvious Williams was the best player.
  11. For many no, but there were lots of Allen skeptics on this board and in the national media. Hell even after year 2 there were skeptics. Allen is still the outlier when it comes to improving completion percentage when going from college to NFL Why do you say that? He sucked as a draft analyst too. Look no further than the worst draft pick of all time Jamarcus Russell Excellent example. Seattle was ridiculed for this pick. He has had a very solid if not spectacular career.
  12. Agreed and since the signing bonus is minimal if they are cut after year 1 there really is no significant cap hit. Though even with that it's unlikely they would be in the top 50 (I think this is the number) salaries that count towards the cap anyways. Agreed. The only thing that will be interesting is to see if Beane gets crazy and moves Davis knowing he will be gone next year anyways. I'm much higher on this board than most about Davis. I wouldn't move him. I think he is going to be great this year. He is going to be the homerun ball guy that gets one on one coverage as the safeties are pulled closer to the line because the run game and underneath passing is improved.
  13. Yes but 6 of them are day three. Most won't make the team. No way he drafts 10 guys. Knowing Beane's history he will probably use one of the threes or the fourth rounder to move up in the 1st or second round. Ideally he packages a couple of those day three picks for higher rounds in 2025. If Torrence starts Bates is your swing OT and backup C as well.
  14. He should have been more horrified watching Brown pass block. Nothing to address OT. At some point you just have to live with some warts.
  15. Like I said he will have a hard time making the roster. But I love the investment in the OL. If he can pass block in the SEC he may be ok in the NFL. Will push Edwards and Boettger for a final roster spot and then be a 17 week inactive if everyone stays healthy.
  16. If he is good enough to make the roster, maybe you can move Dane Jackson for a DT or Edge. As another said, maybe it is between him and Cam Lewis for final DB spot.
  17. Bates can play center but I don't think we have another guy on the team that can play center. Edwards may have taken a few snaps at C but I don't know that he even makes the roster. My guess is Morse plays this year and Bates is your C in 2024 Short arms even for a guard. No way he play OT in NFL
  18. Anderson and Tenuta the last two late round OL did not make the roster. This guy will have an uphill battle to make it too
  19. Bates can play OT. Doyle was awful before the knee. He is done. Bates is the perfect utility tool. In a perfect world Torrence starts at RG and McGovern is good enough to beat out Bates at LG. Then you get one more year out of Morse and Bates is your starting C in 2024. Unfortunately at this point it is Brown or bust at RT. The run on quality OTs hurt the Bills options. Next year they may need to draft two OTs if Dawkins regressed further and Brown doesn't get better.
  20. If he was in house alreadt why did they draft an ILB in the 3rd round?
  21. It does but not what Beane did. All he did was get a 7th this year who won't make the team and a 6th next year. Dumb. If he swapped a 6th now for a 5th next year that would have been ok.
  22. I think it depends on the position. A WR, a RB, DB, and a DL can likely contribute significantly as a rookie even if not starting. That's because they rotate the starters heavily. A backup OG almost never plays. A backup OLB if that is where Williams will play in our defense will almost never see the field.
  23. After more thought I'm thinking I dislike this pick. I was begrudgingly ok with another small ILB with the idea he would split time with Klein. But now I read Beane supposedly said he will play OLB. When? Milano never leaves the field. They almost never play 4-3. I guess you can play Milano at MLB in the nickel. He's had some snaps there before. Seems like a waste for the third round. Also it makes me even more sick that Beane thinks Bernard or Spector can compete for the MLB spot. Hope I'm wrong and we get more out of him in 2023 than they did from Bernard in 2022.
