It is more about evolution and not generations. The same people that want 100% attendance at OTAs probably are the same ones that want two a day training camp practices. And still want four preseason games. And withhold water during camp to make real men out of them. In the past guys used training camp to get in shape. Now guys train all year round. Rarely if ever do guys show up not ready to play. I 100% agree with mandatory rookie camp and rookies should be mandated for OTAs. I just don't believe in the things that traditionalist believe in. College football at the highest level has no preseason. Yes a bunch of team play patsies week 1 but a bunch of top 25 teams play each other week 1 too. COVID year the quality of play was no different without preseason or OTAs.( I can't remember the exact number of events that got canceled or altered). It's easy to just want to do the same thing over and over. Change is hard. But it can be for the better.

Team event with 35-40 guys that won't be on the final roster. Let me meet you half way. Should all veterans show up for OTAs? Yes it can't possibly hurt and it's only 3 days. Honestly if I was Diggs I would show up just so I didn't have to answer a question from a reporter as to why I didn't show up. Does it have any impact on how they play on the field? No. Absolutely zero.

Who says you can not be a team player and not attend OTAs? They are mutually exclusive.
-
How many Bills players have 4 seasons over 100 receptions and over 1000 yards receiving? Want to know how much OTAs matter? McDermott canceled the last day and sent the players on field trips. They are absolutely meaningless for veterans.

I've posted this several times before My brother and I were picked out of the crowd early before the Bills Jets game in 1988. Yes the goal post game. SI camera man asked my younger brother and me to hold his cameras and equipment on the sideline. We watched the entire game on the field. You can see me on TV broadcast as Leonard Smith walked towards the tunnel after being ejected. We were in the press room for food at half time and watched all the post-game interviews. Talked briefly with Kelly and Hull as they left the locker room. This is 1988. No cell phones. I was 17 and my brother 14. Went to the game with my aunt. We would always go into the stadium super early and listen to them play Neil Diamond Coming to America to warm up the speakers. We would go down to the wall and watch the players warm up. My aunt had no idea we were on the field until about the 3rd quarter of the game when we finally got her attention. And yes I'm in the Buffalo News picture. Sort of. My brother's face can be seen but only my white hat next to him is seen. We knew the goal posts came down but had no idea they were being carried outside the stadium as we were in the press room. Only after the game did we find out.

Caleb Williams is off to a rough rookie start

I don't know if he will be good or not but they should have traded down and taken Harrison -
McCaffrey was traded during the season. So technically not his first season. Diggs has already proven he can establish a relationship with a young QB What questionable history? Many of us love Diggs

What NFL rules changes would you like to see?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to NoHuddleKelly12's topic in The Stadium Wall
Know they wouldn't. You just limit the challenges to 2 per coach. Defenseless receiver. I am all for protecting players. But all too often the defender does everything correctly only for the receiver to change their position at the last moment and thus the contact point. As long as the defender doesn't launch themselves and if the receiver changes head position after the defender initiates the tackle then it should be ruled incidental contact to head nexk area. Game is too fast for the defenders to change their attack point. -

Allow coaches challenge via instant replay for everything. The game is too fast for the refs on the field. One bad holding call or roughing the passer call can change the outcome of the game. Everything should be reviewed. They tried it with pass interference but the NFL killed it by not overturning calls that should have been overturned. The NFL would need to commit to getting the call correct or use a third party to review all challenges. -
I would love to see them run more RB screens. They should have 3-4 per game. At least one TE screen per game. I would be fine if they never run another WR screen again. Josh can barely complete that throw for some crazy reason. And then they should run a fake screen at least every other game to take a deep opposite field shot down the field. The inability to run an effective screen is laughable. With Josh's size and known run threat they should be able to kill teams with effective screens.

Torrence was great most of the year. I thought he started to struggle in pass blocking as the season wore on. Don't know if that was the rookie wall or if teams started to scheme against him better. I would not be shocked if he is second team All-Pro

No mention of Milano? We are still not even sure what injury he had. Was it just a broken leg? How many bones? Knee cap dislocation? Torn ligaments? meniscus tear? To my knowledge they have never released an official report of what was found/fixed at time of surgery. He was playing at a ridiculously high level prior to injury. However he has only played in 2 complete seasons out of 7. He will only be 9 1/2 months out from injury when training camp starts. Now Miller and White were hurt in late Nov and neither returned for camp or the start of the next season. McD has been cautious not to rush people back. It will be interesting to see if Milano is ready to go by camp or the first week.

What are your expectations for the draft picks?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to appoo's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great point. I have no issue with them taking a safety. It was a top 3 need. It would just be very disappointing if he does not start quickly. -

Expectations Coleman - solid contributor with 40 catches and 4 TD and hopefully very few drops Bishop - day 1 starter. There is no safety on the roster that should be a lock to start. If he is not a day 1 starter I don't understand why you spend a 2nd round pick on a safety when edge was a much bigger need Carter - DT takes forever to develop in NFL. Hopefully he gets 25% of the snaps in a rotation. Davis - I have high hopes for him. RB is easy transition to NFL perhaps most limited by their pass blocking ability. With Brady my hope is he gets 5 carries per game and 1-2 receptions per game. Cook should get the majority of snaps but Davis should be a versatile tool in many different position groups and formations. -
Twice in the Eagles game Josh walked off the field with the lead and the defense lost it. Bills had the lead in 4th quarter against the Jets and proceeded to give up 10 straight points. Allen plated like garbage but gave them a lead in the fourth quarter anc Allen bailed him out with a FG tying drive only for special teams to give up a TD punt return.

I promised to be positive and not negative this summer My take is any HC in this league wins 9 and maybe 10 games with a healthy Allen. I think McD may win two games and lose two to three games as HC. Look at last year. His defense impressively shut down Miami twice. Then his defense choked wins away against Jets, Broncos, and Eagles(twice). If Bills had not made the playoffs last year I would have fired him. I don't like how he treated Diggs. For me it is SuperBowl appearance or get a new coach in 2025.

Anybody been to a game in Miami? Worth going?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes I flew down for week 17 last year. There is amazing dining in Miami. I did not realize how old the city looked. Not a place I would want to live in. Stadium was fine. Nothing special. It's rectangular so it feels like more of a soccer Stadium. It is rather loud. Bills fan made it difficult for Dolphins to hear but the Dolphins fans were louder than I expected. Of course this was a night game in Jan. No idea what it would be like in Sept. At least it will be at night. -
Should the Bills add an Edge after 6/1?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-sacks-in-an-nfl-game-by-a-team-2023 Well in fact mostly no... Seahawks had a game with 11 and they were 12th oveall and fun fact the Commanders also had a game with 9 ( they were 25th). Chargers and Raiders had a game with 8 and they were 7th and 15th in total sacks. Half the league had no higher than 6. So yes the Bills were the only top 5 team in sacks that had a single super high sack game and only one other top 10 team had a game with 8. So it looks like most of the top teams got to the QB more consistently. The Bills had one game that padded their stats to some extent. -
Sure Miami fans are pissed at Poyer!

Did he miss a snap in 2023? I don't think so. Burrow has missed more games than Tua has. -

Ethan in Cleveland replied to BarleyNY's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we are using the fourth CB, they are already screwed...The top 3 can all be very good. Elam may yet turn out to be good if given the chance. They have zero depth at nickel. If Johnson misses any time it will be interesting to see what they do. Anyone but Lewis would be good but McD will probably have Lewis in that role. -

I don't know, safety might be second. Lots of perennial backups and a rookie from Utah. Then LB is a big question mark. No idea how Milano will come back. Williams was fast but out of control. Added a couple nice insurance pieces in FA I think they will be ok at WR. Just will not have a guy that catches 110 balls.
