  1. Agree. Guard position on paper looks as good as it has in a couple decades. If Torrence keeps playing well and Bates slides to C next year, they will be solid up the middle for the next three years. Let's them invest in OT to replace Dawkins next year.
  2. Benford is a late round gem. Both safeties are likely gone after this year. We really don't know how White will rebound this year. Keep all 4 CBs for 2023 and see how the season unfolds. Right now the depth is far more important than a draft pick next year.
  3. Here is another guy I'd cut in favor of more depth at other spots. I'd cut Quentin Morris. I'd much rather carry an extra OL for blocking than Morris. Bills will be fine with Knox as the primary TE and Kincaid taking a few snaps at TE as well. Many people on here like to remind me Gilliam can take snaps at TE as well. Don't see much use for Morris now. He's not really an elite blocker which is what you want out of your third TE and he's not much of a threat in the pass game. I'd prefer ther just line up Bates as an extra OL in heavy packages and use the extra roster spot for another OL depth guy. Maybe that allows you to keep McGovern off IR. Agree!
  4. I'd cut Matakevich and put Spector on IR to make room for Neal and another player. My disdain for the FB position is well known, but as many have pointed out Gilliam is as close to lock as anyone on the team. Matakevich can't play his position. Neal and Lewis can. Shorter might be able to as well. I would only go with 5 LBs with Milano, Dodson, Bernard, Williams, and Klein. Why carry 6 linebackers when almost every game they don't dress one of them. The last three can play special teams. This opens a spot to keep an extra player at WR, DB, or OL.
  5. The players union should fight to cancel all preseason games As for canceling then due to injury, unless it is truly life and death life Hamlin I'm afraid you just need to resume playing. They've never cancelled games in the past for head and neck injuries. The reality is in a 17 game schedule there is just no opportunity to cancel a game and make it fair. NBA, NHL, or MLB maybe but not NFL. Just too few games.
  6. If what you posted is true then it is definitely worth it. Beane butchered the comp pick opportunity with Gilmore. He can't screw this up too. An extra 3rd round pick is one of the ways you retool while on a franchise history QB contract.
  7. Bills have been up and down in the second round. Dawkins, Cordy Glenn, and Robert Woods probably the best 2nd round picks in the last decade. All very good players. Bills used a 2nd to move up and get Edmunds. The worst will be Ford or Kjoundo. Darby and Zay Jones have carved out decent careers. Epenesa and Ragland are about the same. Ragland had a bit more impact and started far more games mainly for the Chiefs but didn’t last that long. You may be correct Epenesa might hang around as a fringe DE for a few more years. That of course is the recent past. My favorite player of all time was a second round pick - Thurman Thomas !!!
  8. Third string DE taken in the second round is a bust. Epenesa was a bad draft pick. He does nothing well. Jury is still out on Basham and Elam. My guess is Bernard is a colossal bust but I am willing to withhold judgment until he sees more live action. Kyle Allen struggled against guys who will not be in the NFL in 4 days. Just like most teams, Bills are doomed if Josh Allen misses any significant time. Bills know that too, that’s why they were in the Trey Lance hunt. They know Kyle and Matt are terrible. At least with Lnce there might be some athleticism to build upon.
  9. Honest question. What has Harty and Sherfield done to earn spots over Shakir, Shorter, and Isabella? I've not seen much from Harty or Sherfield. I really like Shorter's size and he's one of those ST guys I like that can actually play his position.
  10. I'm a Davis fan but have no defense for him today. Another flat out drop and the stats are what they are. Diggs needs 20 more targets during the season than compared to last year. They need to ride him to the SuperBowl and use him like the top 3 WR he is. Kincaid and Knox need to be option #2/3 on this offense. Let Davis pick up the scraps until he can prove he won't drop the easy ones and kill drives.
  11. Wrong. You should always draft for need. Torrence was a need. Kincaid was a need. Allen Edmunds Oliver Rousseau all need picks. Just becuase a need pick doesn't work out doesn't mean it is the wrong strategy. A BPA philosophy is silly and is never actually followed by anyone. What if a DT or S was BPA this first/second round and they passed on a pass catcher and a guard for another DT or S? A tiny MLB from Baylor was not a need. A backup RB was not a need. Last year the need was to get an OT or another OL. They failed and had to spend dollars on McGovern.
  12. Everything you said is true and a rational argument. Except you left the part out about the coaches making mistakes. What if McDermott really isn't that great at talent evaluation? I posted numerous examples of guys he played that were awful and others that were good and didn't play. What if he has some inherent bias that we don't know about? Beane straight up said Elam has an issue with practice. Well maybe the kid is better during games. Maybe Benford is a great #2 CB and it won't matter. Maybe Elam is just dumb and can't learn the defense. All we can do is sit back and watch. CB#2 is about the 5th most important issue this team is facing. They have solid depth and they should be fine whoever they put out there.
  13. Well I will own that. Then again I wanted Bobbie Wagner. And I wanted nothing to do with Dodson or Bernard. I was pretty consistent in my thoughts. I did come around after the draft and free agency were over to perhaps some platoon. Or maybe Milano at MLB and Williams outside in passing downs. I stated then and still think I would have drafted a true MLB or addressed it in free agency. Drafting Bernard made no sense at the time and is now setting back the MLB position for two years.
  14. A bit too soon to say that. But I am worried that could happen.
  15. Virtually no one said we would be better off without Edmunds. What we said was he is vastly overrated and not worth a second contract. Now we get to see if that is correct. There are many Beane can do no wrong posters on here and he let Edmunds walk. So not sure how that squares with their thinking.
  16. I don’t know what to say. I have so little faith in this coaching staff to play the right players or evaluate talent. Goes back to Trent Murphy who started for three years and then was so bad he was out of the league. Teller of course is another terrible example. Bates not playing until what week 10 two years ago and that was only due to injury. Playing Bernard and of course the ultimate worst decision in NFL history - starting Peterman more than once. Elam may not be perfect but he has more athleticism than Jackson or Belford. Maybe there is something we don’t know. Maybe the coaches are right. Maybe he is on drugs or is an alcoholic. All I know is he was one of the few good players on defense at the end of the year. He stood out and outplayed White in the playoffs. No way I trade him. They may need 4 CBs at some point due to injury. His contract is prohibitive to trade him. Benford may yet need to move to safety.
  17. From what I read he can sign with anyone after whatever period of time is outlined in the injury settlement. He can re-sign with Buffalo but only 3 weeks after the period of time in the injury settlement. Therefore he becomes a free agent and Bills can't sign him for the first three weeks of his free agency. If no one signs him then Bills can bring him back after the additional three weeks.
  18. How does Lynch still have a job ? One of the worst wastes of draft picks ever seen in the NFL.
  19. I'm with you. The secondary should be much better next year. I think the myth of Edmunds protecting the middle was way overblown. He wasn't that good in coverage, pretty bad in man to man actually, and had very few pass break ups. He did have some so I'm not saying he was a liability in coverage, I'm just saying I don't think he was the difference maker some on here thought he was. Obviously we will found out soon enough.
  20. Sounds about right If given the chance he probably produces as much as Epenesa and Basham at a fraction of the cost. Still seems unlikely at this point. If Miller was healthy they might be more willing to move on from Epenesa nad Basham but with Miller likely going to PUP they are likely to keep the two guys that they drafted and know the system.
  21. Correct but what us the upside? Nothing. So it is all risk even low with no reward. Equals bad decision.
  22. Not worried about leadership on this team. I am worried how they handle pressure. Last year was intense but this year will be even greater. Will be interesting to see how they handle adversity. Last year despite not looking like a great team they still won 13 games. This year they may play better and look better but win only 10 or 11 games. Will the added losses cause unrest or just make them more ready for playoff football???
  23. Hope so. Still just preseason but its encouraging he has earned the job day 1
  24. Win a playoff game on the road??? He beat Green Bay on the road in the playoffs.
