NFL Maps and Broadcast Schedule: Week 15 2023 (December 17)
chongli replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall
To me it just seemed so funny. Like what's next? They are preempting the NFL to show tic tac toe? In the US, darts is only done sometimes at bars. It's like playing bingo. But I understand different countries have different likes. i read that darts is very popular in the U.K., it is the highest rated indoor/arena sport by far, ahead of snooker, netball, ice hockey, and bowls. [But what the heck are "netball" and "bowls"? I never even heard of those. I guess I'm not too cosmopolitan, lol!] -

Yeah, it was a weird call. Collinsworth seemed to enjoy it though. I actually thought it was hilarious: -

https://www.kiro7.com/news/trending/chiefs-superfan-known-da-beard-killed-car-crash/DLEPILNJZVEVJE4YLRHTVVWBSI/ "Chiefs’ superfan known as ‘Da Beard’ killed in car crash" INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Daniel Nelson, a Kansas City Chiefs superfan known as “Da Beard” and “Red Beard” for his painted red face, was killed in a vehicle crash Monday morning, authorities said. He was 43. Nelson died shortly after midnight in Independence, Missouri, KCTV reported. According to Independence police, Nelson was driving a Chevrolet eastbound on 23rd Street around 12:20 a.m. CST when he crashed into a railroad bridge west of Noland Road, WDAF-TV reported. Police said that Nelson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation, but police believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor, according to the television station. [...] Another Chiefs superfan, Lynn “Weirdwolf” Schmidt, told WDAF that she had been with Nelson during Sunday’s game, a 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. “He gave me the big bear hug that he always does,” Schmidt told the television station. “You know, you’ll see photos of us together, and he’s always got his arm just like clawed around you because he wanted to be close with people. “I think the game really took a toll on him yesterday. That loss was hard. I think he let things go.” ------------ EDIT: I read this on the KC forum: https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showpost.php?p=17277174&postcount=33 "'Da Beard' is an anagram of his last moments: Bar. Dead." YIKES!

https://www.totalprosports.com/nfl/referee-frank-steratore-flag-holding-investigation/ "NFL Fans Calling For Referee To Be Investigated After New Video Exposes Suspicious Behavior During Controversial P.I. Call vs. Jets (VIDEO) New York Jets star Sauce Gardner became a trending topic last night after a holding penalty that nullified a Patrick Mahomes interception in Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. When the replay was shown, it was clear that Sauce was not holding and the Chiefs got bailed out. Now, a new video seems to bring into question the actions of a referee during that controversial play. Referee Frank Steratore is being called out for an investigation as a video shows him grabbing for his flag as soon as realizes an interception was about to happen. If Michael Carter II’s interception stands, New York has more than four minutes to get the game-tying or go-ahead score. In addition to a questionable defensive holding call against Sauce Gardner, which wiped away an interception, Jets defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson could be seen getting held for a stunning length of time on a play that resulted in a 25-yard run for Patrick Mahomes. Somehow, the officials seemed to not notice Johnson being held for multiple seconds. The Chiefs caught all the breaks."

Those same executives and coaches said game officials and the league missed multiple calls that helped key the Seahawks' overtime victory over the Rams that sent Seattle to Saturday's wild-card round and prevented the Detroit Lions from reaching the playoffs. Even the NFL's competition committee is aware of what one source described to ESPN "as the worst officiated game of the year. [...] “The Lions should be livid,” an unnamed source said, per the report. “It was an awful way for them to end their season.” [end article excerpt] [Note: Craig Wrolstad served as the referee for the game.]

Al Michaels out for NFL playoffs on NBC in move he wasn't expecting
chongli replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, thankfully, this year NBC will have Noah Eagle, Todd Blackledge, and Kathryn Tappen calling on of their Wild Card games. -
I'm wondering. This is what is in wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Broadcasting_Act_of_1961 "Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 The act withdrew antitrust immunity for any pro football telecast if a high school or college football game is being played within 75 miles (120 km) of the broadcasting station on Friday and Saturdays from the 2nd Friday in September until the 2nd Saturday in December. This provision, intended to protect high school and college football attendance, has the effect of barring national broadcasts of NFL games on those days, since virtually all of the country is within 75 miles of at least one high school game on every Friday night in September and October." So I am wondering if this applies when the game in abroad. [I was also going to post this in response to someone's post on @Ethan in Cleveland's thread about Saturday last week being the most boring day for sports, but I was not able to find that thread at the time.] They are announcing it Wednesday.

Araiza, accuser agree to dismiss civil lawsuits against each other
chongli replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm going to be angry if another team signs him. We gave up a 6th for him. [Same goes for Frazier if he becomes a head coach somewhere and we get no comp pick.] -

chongli replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, true. What I meant is he needs to come to Buffalo. It's only fair. We gave up a 6th for him. -
Brail is two hours earlier than Eastern Time. They do not observe Daylight Saving Time, so early in the season they are only one hour ahead of Eastern Time. Perfect for a late DH game here in the US. Game might involve the Dolphins as Muami has a huge ex-pat population from Brazil. Miami plays Jacksonville next year, as do we. But all AFC teams only have eight home games next year, so it would have to be Miami at an NFC team probably.

Now might be a good time to get Peacock, which has local NBC on its higher tier, IIRC. Or over-the-air works too. -

Yeah, Michaels always gets the lesser of NBC's playoff games since their A-team gets too billing, obviously. In any case, I'm sure he is pissed right now and calling his lawyer.
