Is this worst weekend day of the year for sports?
chongli replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Army-Navy game was awesome this year. Plus, did anyone mention the Heisman presentation last night? That was worthy too. Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter both gad good cases. -
Did not see this posted. Looks like we dodged a bullet: From the ESPN article: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/42968588/source-bill-belichick-inquired-jets-coaching-vacancy "Belichick, who quit the Jets in 2000, tormented them for two decades as the New England Patriots' coach and recently made critical comments about owner Woody Johnson, personally reached out to inquire about the opening, a source confirmed to ESPN on Saturday he Athletic first reported that Belichick's camp had contacted the Jets, with the New York Post reporting that Belichick himself made the inquiry. There were no formal discussions with the Jets, who fired Robert Saleh on Oct. 7." [...] "Belichick, in his various media roles, was critical of Johnson for his decision to fire Saleh only five games into the season. The acrimony goes back a quarter-century. After serving on Bill Parcells' staff from 1997 to 1999, Belichick walked away from the Jets on the day he was supposed to succeed Parcells, famously resigning as the "HC of the NY Jets." Belichick quit, in part, because he didn't want to work for Johnson, who had just purchased the team. Belichick sued to get out of his Jets contract, leading to a trade to New England, where he won six Super Bowls. In 2007, the Jets blew the whistle on Belichick for illegally videotaping their coaches during a game, sparking the Spygate scandal."

Army-Navy game on at 3 ET on CBS. NBA Cup semis are on tonight. What's terrible? -
Randy Moss stepping away, health concerns
chongli replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Appreciate the good medical insight here from people like @Mr. WEO and @Ethan in Cleveland, among others I forgot. (I recall @Beck Water had some good info also on various medical things in previous years.) Thoughts go out to Randy. 🙏🏻 -
Niners scorn 'selfish' De'Vondre Campbell's refusal to play
chongli replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was told to go in when Dee Winters was injured in the second quarter, but he refused. Then when he didn't go in in the third when Greenlaw's knees began to hur more, Shanahan got on the headset and asked the D coordinator why. That is when he found out. Then Campbell went to the locker room in the fourth and left the stadium before reporters could track him down. -

But he played special teams earlier in the season and was pretty bad, especially in the first Rams game. -

So it's ok for a team to be upset and cut him but not for me to be concerned if he ends up with a competitor? That's weak? Then it would be weak for SF to cut or suspend him in the first place without finding out what is going on. Sounds hypocritical for you to say that. It's a legitimate concern he would go to another team, not that he would actually be signed in the event he is cut or is that good of a player. -

A fan on SF sports talk radio was worried that if he is cut, he'll sign with Detroit, who needs a LB...right in time for the Bills game. ☹️ -

On local sports radio in SF, they speculated it wasn't because he was moved to be a backup to Greenlaw, whom he knew in advance was returning from injury later this season, but because he was also put him behind Dee Winters, who was third-string. He had commented earlier in the year that he didn't want to be behind him. He suited up before the game only because he gets a roster bonus for each game he suits up for. They also said someone told him to head to the locker room in the 4th because things might have gotten ugly between him and the other players, but it wasn't Shanahan who told him to leave (e.g., see how Kittle was pissed). This whole topic was also being discussed here this morning on the other thread: -
And it was raining, which limited the Rams' game.

You forgot SF. The talk on SF sports radio is Purdy is not the answer and he is irrelevant once again. He is nothing more than a good backup. They want to target Sam Darnold or possibly Kirk Cousins. Also, some are questioning if Kyle Shanahan is the answer since he can't win the big one. But others say it took Andy Reid 21 years to win a SB. Also: the Rams: from the highest scoring game in the NFL last week vs. Buffalo to the first game this NFL season with no TD's. They play to the level of their opponent.
-
No one wants to play them in the playoffs. The good thing is they are not getting in since they are a game behind Washington for the last spot and Washington has a much easier schedule.

To add: Do we need a linebacker!??! 😆

Yes: https://discover.sportsengineplay.com/article/football/nfls-american-bowl-germany "On this day, in 1993 the NFL's American Bowl was played at Olympiastadion in Berlin, the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Buffalo Bills August 7, 1993" "The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Buffalo Bills 20-6 in the American Bowl exhibition game at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Aug. 7, 1993. The more than 67,000 fans who attended the game were also treated to pop concerts, parachutists and fireworks at the event. It was the largest crowd to see a game in Berlin since the NFL began playing there in 1989. In his just second game as a Viking, Jim McMahon completed 7 of 9 passes, while teammate Charles Evans rushed for a game-high 78 yards en route to being named the game’s MVP. The Vikings built a 17-0 halftime lead over the defending AFC champion Bills by taking advantage of good field position and two turnovers" [That is why I put "regular season" in the title!]

Happy 28th Birthday to the Queen of Buffalo
chongli replied to Sammy Watkins' Rib's topic in Off the Wall
If he goes to LA or SF, we better get a king's ransom in return, like five first-round picks (or we keep on franchise tagging him). Otherwise, he is enemy number one, like Juan Soto is to the Yankees.
