McBeane's Moves Now Are For 2020 Success
BillsSB2020 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the way you think! It seems like everyone is either in the FIRE THEM camp or the 2020 camp. I'm optimistic because I believe in these guys, but I really expect more this season than those in the 2020 camp. This is the year I believe the rebuild will bear major fruit. I will have to reassess after the season if this is a 7-9 campaign. -
DK Metcalf. Beat me to it!

I agree with those that say Colin Kapernick didn't want to play football and I don't fully agree with the kneeling, but this would never have been an issue if it weren't for the public outcry. Sometimes what's good for the goose is good for the gander and it's best to ignore something as opposed to letting it eat you up inside. I must say that this young man appeared to "win" whatever the heck that means in this day and age. If I don't like something that doesn't affect me, I just don't pay attention. He's certainly no hero of mine, but I simply paid it no mind.

I think they were "adequate" in pass pro but abysmal in the run game. Not only is that directly a problem for the run game, it also puts the QB in tough spots. 3rd & 6 far too often vs. 3rd and 2 for example. This is why I'm not really interested in drafting a "technician" in the first round. What they need is road graders. They played a very "defensive" style of offensive line. Need to attack and blow people off the LOS. I like this Taylor fella from Florida.

I'm pretty sure Naked City Pizza in Las Vegas opened up about 5 or so years ago, but not 100 percent sure. I don't think it's been there for 15 years so you're probably thinking of a different spot.

McBeane's Moves Now Are For 2020 Success

And as you stated, there's only so much McDermott can do if the talent isn't upgraded. They have the resources. This is the year I expect them to take a step forward. It may take some time for them to come together as a team as I expect many new players, but I just don't think of 2019 as a rebuilding year. It's a BUILDING year. That doesn't mean SB, but it means progress. -
Nice bounceback win for Michigan. It seems like Iggy is slumping a bit. I would generally be concerned about the freshman wall, but he's 20 years old so I don't think that's going to be as much as a factor. Got to play with more control.

This is completely fair analysis. I'm smack dab in the middle of the McDermott/Beane haters and those that expect minimal progress in 2019. I don't think it's unfair to expect a strong season in McDermott's third full year/Beane's second. I understand that they wiped the slate, but they've got the QB, they've got the cap space, and they've got the draft picks. Nobody in their right mind is going to hold them to a ridiculous 12 win standard, but I will be discouraged if they're not in CONTENTION for a playoff spot. At this point, I'm cautiously optimistic. -
That looks awesome! The coolest little Bills Bar I've visited is a place called Naked City Pizza when I took a vacation to Las Vegas. It was featured on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. It's definitely a DIVE, but an awesome place with great pizza and an owner who's a die hard fan and a man of the people. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Vegas.

What do you want to see this offseason: DRAFT
BillsSB2020 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hockenson appears to be the superior player, but Fant is a pretty darn good TE in his own right. If we don't trade down in RD 1, I'd prefer not to take a tight end, which leaves Hock out of the equation. Fant would be an amazing get in the 3rd and a solid get in the 2nd. I don't follow the mocks too closely, so I don't know where he's projected. I do know Hock would be gone between 9 and our 2nd RD pick. -
Absolutely. I'm sure Bills fan of a certain age are aware of this, but the K gun offense was coined because of McKellar's exceptional speed for a tight end. Tight ends were not necessarily used the way they are today back in the early 90's. My hunch is that he'd have put up big time numbers during those few peak years in this generation of ball. Injuries unfortunately derailed his career.

My only quibble with this would be that if they were to invest what's likely required at the position, McCoy will see the writing on the wall. Not that he has any choice, but it could cause some issues at camp. I generally agree with keep him until you find a replacement, but I'd hate to see distractions at camp. I suppose you just cut him if he were to make any waves.

The Quarterback sets the tone for the team in many ways because he's usually close to ownership and is generally looked upon to be the general. From all accounts, this fella doesn't put in much work in the off season and doesn't appear to be respected in his locker room. It seems as though the suggestion is that Roethlisberger gets away with quite a bit of slacking off and that could very well contribute to alot of players developing a chip on their shoulder. I'm not sure what's what inside that locker room, but that's the way it APPEARS from the periphery.

Report: Bills working on extension for Jordan Phillips
BillsSB2020 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I would only say the did try it with Tom Donahue but that doesn't mean it won't work this time. I trust these guys far more than those fellas. -
I think the team was also fed up with Manuel for getting his receivers killed. It appeared to me as though receivers became reluctant to go 100 percent after some passes because they didn't trust Manuel to have read the field and protect his fellas. One thing I like about Allen is that he doesn't get his receivers lit up. Now I know with the rule changes, this is less of an issue, but it's still an issue. Receivers gotta trust the QB.

This is how I feel as well. I have a great deal of confidence in the regime after a sterling draft and the overall upward trend toward the end of 2018, but I'm going to be extremely disappointed if there's not SERIOUS progress in 2019. This is all theoretical as I expect them to do just that. Just can't totally agree with the OP that 2019 isn't something of a show me year. -
With expectations higher, is anyone else calm?

If you have an elite line, the RB is far less important than an elite WR. -
AFC Cut Candidates - Gregg Rosenthal

I would also say Lorax is something of a hybrid on the edge and he seems to have flourished in this defense. It would be great to get pass rusher done in FA'cy/trade so we can focus the rest of our attention to the offense. -

I truly believe the sky is the limit in 2019 if we can protect Josh Allen, get him some weapons and maybe add a pass rusher on defense. This is our time! -
You're stating it as opinion and that's fine, but by ANY conceivable metric, Manuels was better than Peterman. So eyeball test aside, it just doesn't make one whole heck of a lot of sense.] Jimbo #1? That was easy.

I concur with this. I understand the OP is showing his commitment to the regime and they deserve kudos for setting the table. That being said, I think they've got to produce in 2019. I'm not impatient right now, but 2019 is the year where we're supposed to see substantial progress. Not likely to be a SB although anything can happen. I will just say that I think it's only fair to stop judging these fellas on a curve. I believe in what they're working to accomplish and the way they went about doing it, but this is the time to start shining. Not NEXT next year. -
I'm not letting them off the hook for the way they handled the QB situation. I think they were blindsided by McCaron's flaws and were too reluctant to just go with Allen. Beane admitted they miscalculated. Just saying it won't really mean much going forward provided they make better decisions. They are new to the game, so I'll let it slide. For now.

Hockenson will go higher and he's become a fan favorite here for good reason. That being said, I think we may be underrating Fant a bit. I'm very iffy about drafting a TE in the first round, let alone top ten. If Fant tests well at the combine, he may very well be a solid pick in the 2nd or 3rd. -
For sure. My thought(and it's not original) is that they were thinking long term after the Cincy debacle. He didn't show the kind of escapability we saw all season and they thought he was gonna get killed behind that line. Big mistake by the FO and coaching staff, but probably not going to affect the long term.
