The Trump Shutdown

If you just stretch a little further I believe you can reach the straw. -
Most fans have no idea. This is why fans prefer to make player personnel THE factor. It makes playing armchair GM easier and more fun. But if it was as easy as collecting talent the Redskins & Cowboys would have ruled the league for the last 20 years. It's certainly an important factor, but having an offensive scheme that works, coaches who can teach it, and players who fit that scheme is often more important as overall talent.

It's like you have a house with no doors and windows and it's cold. One person says we need windows. The other says windows won't work because they won't produce heat, therefore we need a heat pump. The second party can't (or won't) acknowledge that one makes the other effective. -

The fundamental flaw in your comparison is you attribute all differences to one variable (lying) as though all other variables are constant, when in reality even the variable you're isolating has distinctions within it. Taking that variable as identical, for the sake of argument, you have a littany of issues that separate the two. Not merely policy issues, but philosophical and personal as well. President Trump is unabashedly pro-American where Obama seemed to think America needed to be put in its place (see Apology Tour). Obama's overall philosophy was one of government intervention in the economy. He pushed for government run health insurance, stimulus packages (after TARP), higher taxes, higher fuel prices, and cap & trade. Although President Trump has ironically been one to promote tariffs (something I would have less tolerance of if he had a D after his name), his core philosophy is pro-business and smaller government. (see tax cuts; de-regulation). He gets more slack on deficets b/c of the R, but he appears to want to curb spending long-term. (see the wall, illega immigration generally, ending Obamacare). As far as travel, Obama caught a lot of flack for travel expenses, but that was partially due to him railing against people living "high on the hog" with their own money, then proceeded to live high on the hog with taxpayer money. Perhaps most of all, Obama was very condescending, which is particularly irritating when the condescension is backed by nonsense. President Trump is also condescending to his detractors, but Trump's condescension is directed at those with power; Obama's was directed at average American citizens who disagreed with his policies. He referred to us as their enemies. I don't know if Obama is a good guy or a bad guy. Men are poorly equipped to judge the souls of other men. My gut tells me he was not a good guy, but not knowing him personally I really can't say. My gut tells me Trump's intentions are good, but I don't know him either. Perhaps it's due in part to the bias flowing from my party afiliation, or just giving the benefit of the doubt to one whose philosophy is more aligned with my own. But there are many clear cut distinctions I could look at on paper & tell you which I prefer without knowing anything else about them, and President Trump gets the clear edge and it isn't a tough call. -

Baldinger on Josh Allen's Elite Athleticism
Swill Merchant replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He may look like a meathead, but Baldinger is a smart guy who knows how to break down what he's watching. If he's impressed with Allen we should consider it encouraging. -
GB Packers hire Nate Hackett as OC
Swill Merchant replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was a fine move. The negative sentiment on this board is a holdover from when the fanbase scapegoated Hacket for EJ Manuel's inability to play QB at this level. -
GB Packers hire Nate Hackett as OC
Swill Merchant replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hackett's unforgivable sin was failing to create an explosive offensive out of the QB carousel of EJ Manuel, Thad Lewis, & Jeff Tuel as a rookie OC. That he rode Blake Bortles to the #6 offense (#5 in points) last year apparently doesn't count for much. -

The question though is how. It's hard to get any real news that's inconvenient to the Dems to their voters because the media outlets they consume filter it out. It's a problem Rs have had for decades. The average leftist knew that Mitt Romney's wife had a horse and that he had a rooftop dog carrier, but didn't know anything about ACORN, Rezco, Rev. Wright, or Bill Ayers. They knew Romney was accused of bullying someone when he was a kid, but nothing of Obama's upbringing and past associations, both familial & personal. That's the situation the right faces here. The only way to get the truth to the left & the disinterested is to have the President address the nation directly, hence the leftist push to have the media black him out. They're never going to point out Schumer pitching for essentially the same thing a few years back. They're never going to ask him why he thinks fences work but a steel barrier won't. They're going to carry his water like the Democrat propagandists they are. -

You know this is a losing effort on the part of the Dems because no one on the left wants to talk about it. The rank & file who rally behind the Dems on every move have been considerably less vocal about this. The problem is they don't have any compelling principled argument. Everyone knows they can end this just as easily as the President, and the arguments against doing so are painfully weak. As bad as the Kavanaugh hearing was for them, they were able to feign moral outrage and hide behind #metoo, knowing that it would be over before any real scrutiny made it past the politically engaged. They have neither luxury here. The longer this goes on the harder it is for them to justify their actions. They're stuck in the catch-22 of claiming the shutdown is a catastrophe, while chosing to prolong the catastrophe for no compelling reason. -

Poll of NFL players on QB (was: rookie QB Roundup)

If they did the survey after the season it probably goes as follows: Mayfield Jackson Darnold Allen Guys who didn't play Rosen Edit: You could flip Allen & Darnold. I gave Darnold the nod to compensate for my pro-Allen bias. -

That's not the argument for the wall. It's an example that illustrates the absurdity of your argument against it. -
