I guess I’m missing the message-board-inside-joke with these comments. Seems like boomer humor, but hard to tell without knowing what the actual joke is.

Oh, my bad. I read that it did and assumed it was true. Fair enough, we mostly agree. I’m sort of splitting hairs with my argument anyways. I just don’t see it being a big deal.

This is the sort of reaction I’m seeing in this thread that I don’t agree with. The penalty fit the “crime”. I don’t see how this action was beyond the pale and deserves special attention. Was it uneccesary? Sure was it vicious? Not in the context of football. I have no idea what this means.

Lol, “smoked” ?. I’d argue that, using simple physics, a person moving in one direction getting hit on the side is likely to fall over. That doesn’t mean the hit was especially vicious, or that the guy was “smoked”

I get why people think this is “dirty”, I just don’t have a huge problem with it. If he gave him a concussion by hitting him in the ear hole with his helmet I’d say dirty. This seems more like a fun little shot, nbd. It’s football, you are looking for contact, having an angle is advantageous. As far as the “injury” goes, being cold and getting knocked over had more to do with it than the play being particularly dirty did.

This is such a nuanced and complicated subject; a text book could be written about it.

Yeah, that playing-center-field type play can be tricky because you rarely practice it. Hard to get a good read on the ball, and if it’s wonky like that...I think he was concerned it was going to go over his head which made him hesitate, then panic when adjusting. still should’ve caught it.

I think the ball was affected by the force of him moving left before he stopped and threw right, but I don’t know for sure. I will say after watching it a few times from a few angles that it was a SLIGHTLY harder catch than I originally thought, but still should’ve been caught.

I can’t imagine fighting in a stadium, the anxiety from watching videos like this is bad enough

This is....are you serious? it would be impossible to replicate, but I would lay good money on 75% completion rate with ANY professional athlete as receiver if every other circumstance was exactly the same.

Professional athletes need to make that catch. Given what we know about Allen’s arm strength, I’m guessing few could’ve got the ball to where he did. Clay HAS to make that catch.

I agree with what I think you’re trying to say. It seems like the “shouldn’t beat your wife” movement got turned into “no possible reason to ever strike a woman”. I don’t know why some people think this is gospel. It is some weird perversion of reality.

I voted yes for a few reasons, including: I think he deserves a second chance a potential position of need for bills he’s seems to be a rare talent/asset because the poll question is a “yes or no” type question, I will enter the following caveats: assumption that bills did their homework regarding the player/character issues etc, before submitting claim bills sit him for some period of time reworked contract that includes special protections in the bills favor.

I understand why TMZ uses the word, I just don’t understand how a reasonable person (legal definition) would come to that conclusion after watching the video. I mean, it’s a semantics argument, but it speaks volumes about ones interpretation of the video. Brutal/brutalize implies some sort of savagery associated with the assault. I Just didn’t see that, nor can I see how one would come to that conclusion. Any clarification would be useful in helping my understanding.

There are some things going on in this situation that make it and the discussion surrounding it particularly interesting: · It involves a famous NFL player · Involves a male and female · There is a video recording of the event · Everyone has access to view the video and share their opinion · Conflation between what is: legal, “right” · Heightened emphasis placed on violence involving players and women from the NFL · Many more The first thing I’d like to address is the conflation between what is legal and what is “right”. Many of the posters in this thread, and people in general, argue that a man should not hit a woman. That is NOT A LAW, rather a moral principle some, I’d say most, try to live by. From a legal standpoint, this is, at best, a case of simple assault. Most people recognize there are varying degrees of assault, and what happens in this case is much closer to the low end of the spectrum than the high. Leading up to the kick, the woman and the man are both willing participants in what is happening. They are both free to leave at any time; they both participate in the escalation. The kick at the end is where the simple assault takes place. My opinion of the kick is that it is exactly what the law is written for, simple assault. Prosecute it if you want, it’s at best a misdemeanor that would likely be settled with a fine.
