  1. I don't believe that Williams will be around when the Bills draft and I doubt that Beane will pay to move up to get him. Just looking at the WR's likely to be around in rounds 2 and 3, there will be some speed guys available. WR is a very deep position group in this draft class. CB isn't as deep and the talent drops off considerably after the first six guys. McD will probably push to get the CB, if one of their top rated guys is there at pick 25. Either way it goes, I'll be okay with it. Williams would be an awesome addition. If Williams is the pick, I'll be listening for a Barbarian's primordial scream coming from deep in the southern tier. lol
  2. Every move in free agency so far has made the roster better. Beane's moves layout a clear direction for the draft. CB and WR are probably the priority for the early rounds. After that maybe an interior o-lineman, a RB, QB, another WR, another CB and a couple of late round fliers. He could even afford to give away a couple of the late round picks to move up in one of the middle rounds. Beane does a great job of using free agency to set himself up for the draft.
  3. Probably coming in the draft in the first two rounds.
  4. What a literary masterpiece! I guess it will be MEAN Beane from now on and forevermore. KingBoots8 will be known to be in the same accomplished circles as Longfellow, Tennyson, and Frost. This poem is solid proof that even the off season can be fun. Thanks for the creation. By the way, where are all of the Beane haters now? I guess they have slithered off to hang out with their fellow naysayers. Miller and Howard are two huge additions. Going into the draft it looks like the most important needs are at WR and CB. MEAN Beane has grabbed the off season by the throat and given it a shake. It's a great time to be a Bills fan.
  5. He creates the false narrative of a shortage of Porches and the Jests believe it and overpay for the Porche, destroying their cap in the process. Beane is a real showman.
  6. If you don't have a guy that needs to be double teamed on every play, the offense is able to double team at the point of attack on runs and scrape off the double team to pick off a LB at the next level. In other words, it allows the offense to dictate where the numbers mismatch occurs. On passing plays, a stunt or a blitz is easier to pick up with just the 5 o-line guys ( allowing TE and RB to be released into a pass route ). I think the McD thought that Oliver would be that guy to create the need to be double teamed. Unfortunately, that has happened yet.
  7. This guy can be more than a third down back. He may be used in lieu of a traditional slot receiver like Beasley. I believe that this is a very good signing and cheaper than the Edmonds signing by Miami. McKissic and Edmonds are backs with very similar skills. Beane continues to fill needs without breaking the bank. He is setting up the Bills to have a good draft (CB, WR, and Edge ).
  8. Damn straight on that. I spilled my morning coffee all over my computer desk and par boiled some of my private parts. It just defies certain laws of nature...lol.
  9. These two DL free agents are excellent signings. With Beane's FA activity so far, it's looking like CB, WR and a pass rusher remain probable early targets in the draft. If Chandler Jones shows up in Orchard Park, the Bills draft targets become very predictable. I still expect Beane to pick up a lower cost veteran QB and a QB in the draft to develop. This all follows along with Beane's normal mode of operation going into the draft. He plugs most of the needs with reasonably priced veterans that are an upgrade of the guys they replace. He enters the draft with only one or two important needs for the early rounds. After the draft he picks up low cost veterans to add necessary depth. He's become almost as predictable as a February snow storm in the south towns. I'm still holding out hope that the market for Wallace isn't as high as he expected. If they do lose him, there are some great options in the draft.
  10. That's an interesting take and you may very well be correct. At times I wondered why they didn't use his speed to stretch the defense and open things up for Diggs and Knox. Even if he was merely a decoy, the safeties would have to cover the deep patterns. This certainly provides the Bills some flexibility going into the draft.
  11. Now they just need a QB that can actually throw the ball.
  12. Currently, he has not recovered from his knee injury and there is some serious doubt that he ever will. He was fun to watch before the injury. Lucky for him he had signed a new contract just prior to being hurt. I'm sure that he is not on Beane's radar at this time.
  13. Because nobody offered more and nobody else wanted to take on that much salary for a guy that has started to fade into mediocrity. Teams know more details about injuries than are made public to fans. Maybe Mack's most recent injury is likely to impact his future performance. None of us will know for sure until we see him play a few games.
  14. I'm not really sure what legal basis the woman is using to sue Jerry. It could just be a hail Mary, hoping he will throw some additional cash her way to make the story go away. If she had first taken a more confidential and diplomatic approach, she may have ended up with a better result. Of course maybe she did and Jerry gave her a typical billionaire's answer. Either way, anything that causes Dallas any discomfort, is okay by me.
  15. I agree with you. He is still better than several starters on teams like Jacksonville, Carolina, Cincinnati, and Houston. He will be starting somewhere if he chooses to play.
  16. In addition to adding a slot guy, they really need to have a guy with top end speed to take the top off the defense. Neither Diggs nor Davis are that kind of downfield threat. There are several fast WR's in the draft that should be available on day two of the draft.
  17. I doubt that Seattle is looking to unload more of their best players. A 71 year old head coach is not hanging around for a complete rebuild. Wilson hasn't been a top five QB for a while and I get the sense that they traded him before his perceived value dropped down to his actual value. Denver paid a very steep price for a 33 year old QB but it does make them a better team. Even if Seattle is planning to trade Metcalf, I just don't think that Beane will spend the resources for him. The presence of Diggs, the emergence of Davis, and a very deep draft class make a move for Metcalf a very remote possibility IMO. Metcalf on the Bills would be an awesome addition.
  18. As I have read the various opinions posted here, it will be a question of whether the value of an immediate free agent signing is more than the value of the comp pick that it eliminates a year later. Both options have value but the real question is which has more value at the time the free agent decision is being made. Beane is clearly smart enough to factor together immediate needs/value and the future value of an extra draft pick. In a league that has tremendous pressure to win now, I see why most teams discount the value of an extra draft pick in the draft of the following year. It is also apparent that teams with good rosters may also discount the comp picks because it is very hard for draft picks to make the 53 man roster. Bad teams needing a complete rebuild can use comp picks to their advantage. They let some older good players walk and use the extra picks to reload the roster. Since the Bills are clearly in a win now mode with a very good roster, Beane probably places less value on comp picks than an immediate impact free agent.
  19. Isn't it interesting that the guys that paid him big money are no longer in their jobs. Bad cap management leads to a bad roster, a bad win/loss record, and a change in the front office. Good teams seem to know when to let guys walk and when to pay. Like most of the comments on this board, the Allen contract looks pretty good at this point in time. Beane continues to make more good decisions than bad ones.
  20. Dorsey was a really smart player in college. He did not have exceptional physical talent. He was great at recognizing what defenses were trying to do and took what was available. I don't expect him to deviate from that philosophy. When the deep passing game is available, I believe that he will take some shots. I also believe that he will attack a light box with the running game. The transition may be much smoother than some of us expect. Daboll had his moments but he also had some clunkers (Jacksonville and Pittsburgh).
  21. I believe someone will pay much more than they should. QB's in the draft are underwhelming. I don't see Rodgers or Wilson going anywhere. Steelers, Broncos, Washington, Tampa, and Saints are in QB trouble and have decent rosters otherwise. I expect one of them to pay. I don't think a contract above $15M per season is out of the question. The losers of the Jimmy G. sweepstakes will probably push up the price for Mitch. The ones not willing to pay the price will be left to scramble for the likes of Mariota, Winston, Dalton, etc.. It's great that the Bills don't have to deal with any of this.
  22. Adding a CB to replace Wallace is an obvious need. To make a jump in the performance of the defense, the Bills need to have at least one member of the front four that requires a double team block. It makes d-line stunts more effective and makes offenses more vulnerable to a blitz. It keeps the linebackers clean and limits many things that offenses can do. Right now the Bills don't have that guy but I'm hoping one of the new guys can become that kind of player. I always hoped that Ed Oliver would be a dominate force but that has not materialized yet. Creating chaos at the line of scrimmage enhances the effectiveness of the secondary and linebackers. It messes up the timing of the running game and keeps the QB from feeling settled in the pocket. I believe that Beane will keep taking early shots in the draft until he gets one of these players.
  23. It seems like every year we are certain what round players will be selected in. It also seems like every year after the draft that we talk about all of the players that fell and all of the players taken earlier that were a reach. This leads me to conclude that most of the so called draft experts know very much less about these players than most of the teams do. In addition, the fact that a significant number of undrafted free agents make it in the league, tells me that teams are not infallible either. The entire draft process is a crap shoot and those of us who preach our point of view with a high degree of certainty are probably only really telling us what they hope will happen. At times it gets rather tedious.
  24. Rotation makes sense if you have enough competent players to make the substitutions and maintain a decent level of performance. D-linemen generally expend more energy than most other positions on the field. Their effectiveness drops off the longer that they are on the field. I understand and mostly agree with the approach that McD employs. Where he loses me is when he brings in the backups to start a defensive series after the Bills' offense has been on field for a decent amount of time. The starters have been sitting on the bench and could not possibly be tired.
  25. With all of the needs of the team, spending this much on a RB that has been over used and recently injured is a fools errand. They have better uses of their limited cap resources. Understanding how individual contracts work, does not necessarily put those pieces together to construct a championship roster. If it did, very few people would ever struggle as a GM of an NFL team. Additionally, grade school level sarcasm, doesn't make this proposal any more likely or smart.
