  1. Elmo's is a very popular downtown steakhouse that is within easy walking distance to the stadium. They are known for their shrimp cocktail with its spicy cocktail sauce. If you are ever in Indy and have the time, it's well worth going there. When the NFL combine is going on in the city, you can frequently see the who's who in the NFL.
  2. Good points. I was able to watch the all 22 video of the game and I was even more surprised that either or both of those calls were made. The right side of the Miami o-line was clearly holding on multiple plays in a manner that was more egregious than the calls on Dawkins and Torrence. Penalties were not called on any of those plays. The holding was obvious on the outside runs to their right and the screens thrown to that side. To let that level of holding go on throughout the game and then to make the calls on the Bills at a critical juncture of the game, is what makes fans angry. Other obvious non calls were Miami blocking downfield on screens prior to the pass (one call was finally made later in the game). Lastly, the Miami right guard left before the snap on more than one play and was not called. Overall, I thought the non calls were more beneficial to Miami than they were to the Bills. I would be really upset, if the Bills had lost. For me now, it's on to Indy and shrimp cocktail at Elmo's.
  3. They need to address Hamlin's performance. Bad play recognition, slow reaction, pitiful on run fits, and poor pursuit angles are the highlights of his play last night.
  4. There are some opinions that there is too much emphasis on weight training and not enough attention paid to flexibility. Some blame the number of foot injuries on the light weight shoes that players prefer to play faster. People also attribute many of the shoulder injuries to the small light weight shoulder pads that players like. I also believe the artificial playing surfaces have a big impact on the rate of injury around the league.
  5. "We wonder if Jacksonville will ever get a professional football team."
  6. The game was almost like watching practice with all the receivers and running backs getting their reps. Jags looked like a team that has quit.
  7. This is a great topic for this forum. I remember reading about this a while ago and completely forgot about it. There is a break even point between the salary/cap space saved and the cost of the policy. Therefore, it only makes financial sense for the most highly paid guys. There are also some owners that operate on a limited cash flow basis like Bengals and the Raiders that make limited use of this provision. The provision was mainly introduced to help protect the competitive viability of a franchise that loses highly paid guys who may also have a lot of guaranteed contract money. The premise of the provision makes sense but I think the wealthier owners could potentially disregard the financial costs and buy cap space as one of the other posts alluded to.
  8. Last season, my friend that works in the NFL told me that McDaniel is a really good guy and is well liked around the league. He also told me that he is naturally quirky and is actually the guy we see him as in public. He also told me that he may be too nice to be working in this capacity leading a team. He may not have it in him to drop the hammer on players that need a swift kick in the butt. I think we may be seeing that with the under performing talent on his team.
  9. Concussions have a cumulative traumatic effect on the brain. Concussions that occur is close proximity of time generally have more of a traumatic effect. Exposing Tua to the repetitive concussions doesn't guarantee a horrible long term outcome but it does stack the odds against him. People that express concern about his well being don't all hold the opinion that he should be forced into retirement. It is his decision to make and I believe he will continue to play because the draw of the money is so intoxicating. Fans will continue to watch him play but when he retires, few if any, will care about his quality of life after football.
  10. I was at the game when Tua was knocked silly and they ended up putting him back in the game. He clearly had no business being put back into that game and I mainly blame the Dolphins and the medical people on duty at the game. It was obvious to people at the game watching him wobble off the field that he was severely compromised. When I heard that he was injured again in another game, I was not surprised. The severity of that incident finally prompted the changes to the concussion protocol. It should not have taken that sequence of events to get him off the field. Teams can't force players into retirement but their medical staffs can refuse to clear players to play. For me, it isn't about any hate or dislike of a team or player. It is about the exercise of common sense and doing the right thing.
  11. Watching the game for the second time, the physical domination by the d-line and o-line stood out to me. They played really well. The only real criticism I had was for AJ giving up the edge too easily on three different plays. I also liked how Bishop looked on his few plays on the field. He looked incredibly smooth and quick on the pass breakup in the corner of the end zone. He made that play look really easy for him. I expect that he will be logging more playing time sooner rather than later. I have gained a new appreciation for the Bills as an organization. They continue to find good athletes and develop them. They find good free agents that fit their schemes and their team culture without breaking the bank. I was prepared to watch them take a step back in performance this season but they are much better than I expected. They are a well coached team.
  12. His loss of foot speed, makes it appear that he took a bad angle. A player with good game speed probably had enough of an angle to push Cook out of bounds. We saw this a lot last season and that is the main reason that the Bills moved on.
  13. You may be correct but I would like to see the language of his contract before I have an opinion. Given his history, the team may have insisted on some special protection in the event of injury related premature retirement.
  14. Living in Florida around a bunch of very obnoxious Dolphins fans, a crushing victory like this shuts them up. They've been talking trash since the draft. I don't have to say a word because they now know that their hype isn't real. I'll be surprised if more teams don't incorporate McD's strategy to shut down the Miami offense. The blueprint is readily available on game video. They're in for a long season.
  15. Missed tackles drive me crazy too. I have watched almost all of the week one games and there is one common issue with defenses. They all missed a bunch of tackles. It's probably the result of bad technique, minimal tackling to the ground in training camp, and starters not playing much in preseason games. Even though it generally gets better as the season goes on, it remains a problem across the league. Giving away those extra yards after contact can mean the difference between forcing a punt or giving up a first down.
