Beyond Blue & Red- Josh Allen's Life On and Off the Field
CincyBillsFan replied to Warcodered's topic in The Stadium Wall
And Mahomes, who is like a TV star because he's in so many commercials is proof positive that the modern elite NFL QB can make commercials and excel at the game of football. These attacks on Allen by some posters are really weird. It seems like every season there is a new round of dark whispers suggesting something fundamentally wrong with Allen: * Remember how they complained Allen wasn't accurate? And then when he improved his accuracy they complained he couldn't throw the deep ball? * And when he became the best deep ball thrower in the NFL they whispered that Allen wouldn't take the easy gimme throws and would only go after the lower probability deep shots. I mean on every play multiple Bills players were wide open for huge gains but Allen just ignored them! * Then when Allen was killing teams with his legs they whispered that he would get hurt all the time. Now, after 4 straight seasons (KNOCK ON WOOD) of not missing a game they hint darkly of Allen having a truncated career because of his running. * Remember how they whispered that Allen couldn't play in front of big crowds which is why he id so well in 2020. Then in 2021 & 2022 he had some of his greatest games in prime time pressure cooker environments in front of huge hostile crowds? * Then they hinted that Allen couldn't play great in playoff games. And then he went out and had some of the best playoff games of any QB in recent NFL history. * And now they're whispering that Allen is lazy and maybe dumb and he doesn't study film and he lets his body go in the off season. He gets drunk and he makes to many commercials. Judas Priest when this is shown to be complete BS like all the other things what will they whisper then? -

Or maybe the commercials are not a distraction but a nice way for these QB's to rebound after very stressful seasons. In fact the commercials are part of the job for elite QB's. -

You mean like Mahomes who is in about a million commercials? -
Even better if it was the AFC north cannibalizing themselves with their division winner finishing in 4th place in the standings. And the Ravens 7 year preseason winning streak didn't exactly translate to elite play in the regular season with only 1 playoff win through that time.

The 3 Kincaid catches- we have another elite weapon on o

I would throw out Lance Allworth and Bobby Chandler as being smooth in their receiving style. -
When did Steve Tasker become such a homer?
CincyBillsFan replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall
If as the result of a PRESEASON GAME Tasker leveled any meaningful criticism beyond the Bills O needs to clean up the penalties he should lose his job. -
Do people think that Dorsey game planed for Pittsburgh other then to tell Allen not to run and bail if he feels pressure? The LAST thing Dorsey wanted to do yesterday was to tip the Jets off to anything he was going to do in week 1. Why don't we wait and see how the first 4 games go before deciding where Dorsey stands.

Well that was an absolute crap fest - PostGame thread

So who were the "talent" that Allen lost over the last few years? Rogers lost Adams, Mahomes lost Hill but all I see is that Allen loses stop gap skill players and O linemen. You can't accept the fact that Allen has had much less talent on the O line and among the skill players over the last 5 years then Burrow, Mahomes, Hurts, Rogers, Brady, Prescott, Herbert, Jackson, Stafford, etc., etc. And when dd Allen stop being an elite QB? By every measure Allen was elite in 2022. -

Judas Priest this is over the top - comparing Allen to Rob Johnson. Really? -

Hey it's a free country so go ahead and blame Allen for us losing last nights critically important preseason game. And did you watch the games in 2022? We threw plenty of short timing passes, particularly in the first half of the season. My take is that defenses adjusted and we found ourselves lacking the quality play makers at RB & WR (outside of Diggs) to make it work in the face of the adjustments. For crying out loud we signed Smoke & Beasley OFF THE FREAKING STREET to try to juice the receiving group. So yea with the additions they made in the off season to boost the number & quality of play makers I expect Dorsey & Allen to execute more of the rhythm short passing game with a couple of deadly deep shots thrown in to keep defenses honest. -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2
CincyBillsFan replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bingo. We have seen Allen stand in and take nasty hits time after time while delivering a perfect strike. Obviously he was told by McD that in the preseason he is to bail the moment he feels pressure. And for the record on that play Allen came pretty close to be sandwiched between the two end rushers. -

At least 4 throws. Obviously Dorsey isn't going to showcase the quick hitting throws that are likely to make up a big part of the offenses passing game against the Jets in week one. That you don't understand this is eye opening. -
Cap Dollars - Von Miller or FA OL improvement
CincyBillsFan replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
We won't really be able to intelligently answer this question until after this season. How soon does Miller get back and what is his impact when he does. At the same time our O line isn't going into look like it did last night. So TODAY I would say the money should have gone to the O line. But I reserve the right to change my mind as this season goes along. -

Oh please, did you watch the game? Allen was far from the problem. In fact he threw the ball well and had the Bills moving nicely on the 2nd drive. Half his pass completions, including the 35 yarder to Davis that got called back, were vintage wow Allen throws. The only goofy thing Allen did was when he started to run then realized that McD/Dorsey told him not to run. -
One big bright spot from the game - Kincaid
CincyBillsFan replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Lost in the penalty fest last night was that Diggs & Davis both looked sharp making a couple of nice catches. And the beauty of preseason is that while it didn't count that 35 yard Allen strike to Davis was the kind of play we were expecting to happen regularly last season. -
What are your top TWO takeaways from the Bills-Steelers game?

One more thing about last nights game. In the preseason, coaches approach these games very differently. Buffalo is a legit SB contender that wants to get through the preseason healthy and fill out the bottom end of their roster. In contrast the Steeler's are a mid level team that will win 8 - 10 games. Tomlin wants them to be hungry street fighters and that starts in the preseason. Remember, the Ravens did not lose a preseason game from 2016 - 2022. And during that 7 year span they went to the playoffs 4 times winning only 1 playoff game. -

CincyBillsFan replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
My top two takeaways: 1) Kincaid and Torrence looked really good. Like naturals. 2) While the Tackles played poorly against a very good Steeler pass rush I didn't see the kind of immediate pressure up the middle that is so devastating to an offense. On the pass plays the guard play looked solid. -
NO. Last night was nothing. Seriously, it was a big fat nothing burger. They played poorly for a quarter and a half in a preseason game. The effort and game plan they bring to the Jet's game will be exponentially different and superior to what you saw last night. They got a preseason game wake up call which are the best type to get. They'll work the kinks out of the O line and they'll work on the penalties. BTW the penalties were the most serious issue coming out of last nights game and IMO they're the easiest to fix.

In the regular season Allen likely runs for a 1st down on that play. It was clear he was instructed NOT to run and as he crossed the LOS he realized "Oh ####" and ran back behind the LOS. It was actually funny to watch. It also told you all you needed to know about the Bulls mindset for last nights game: * Don't get hurt * Don't give away anything about what we'll be doing week one. * work out the kinks and get ready for the season opener. Unfortunately, the Bills came up against a motivated Pittsburgh which fielded one of the top 3 D lines last night and they got after Allen who was trying to operate a vanilla offense for a couple of series. What I saw was that Allen looked sharp when he wasn't running for his life. He threw a fast and accurate ball for several of his completions. The 35 yard pass to Davis that was called back for holding was jaw dropping. In fact, on that 2nd Bills drive they were penalized 3 straight plays for 25 yards which also cancelled out 45 yards worth of pass completions. If the Bills score that drive is anyone really bitching much this morning? I suspect that in the end getting their a$$'s handed to them in the first half was a good thing. Over the course of a season most teams need a wake up call. So for the Bills to get their wake up call in the PRESEASON is ideal. -

But it's crazy to criticize the guy for a PRESEASON blow out loss. Preseason games are funny. If one team shows up ready & motivated to play they'll roll an opponent that is going through the motions. -

I suspect that this is exactly what will be employed against the Jets in week 1. In fact the last thing the Bills were going to show is how they'll run this type of offensive game plan in the preseason.
