Chris Simms on Bills-Patriots
CincyBillsFan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep and back in a recent Super Bowl Seattle lost a game to the Pats that the Pats didn't deserve to win yet we still count that as a NE Super Bowl win. And just this year Seattle didn't beat NE the Pats lost because they couldn't score at the end of the game from the Seahawk's 1 yard line. If the Bills win the next 2 games the national media will be singing an entirely different tune. That's why it's a waste of time to worry about what they say. -
We've beaten 3 teams with winning records. And before people crap on the fish they've beaten the Rams, crushed the 49's and came within one score of Seattle. Hell, NE had two shots from the 1 yard line to beat Seattle a few weeks ago, Seattle is a very winnable game.

Are our WRs not getting separation? Or is it Allen?
CincyBillsFan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's a number of reasons for the drop in productivity including: * Weather. Passing conditions were bad in 2 of the last 4 games. If Sunday had been 65, dry and not much wind we're looking at a completely different discussion today. * Teams are defensing the Bills differently and focusing on taking away their WR's * Before yesterday the Bills rushing game didn't scare anyone. This could change after both RB's had a good game. * The Bills have the weakest pass catching TE group in the NFL particularity when Knox is out. This simplifies how you defense the Bill's passing game in ways you can't do with KC or Seattle. I think that teams approached defensing the Bills early in the season thinking that they were facing the 2019 version of Allen. The reality is that the 2020 version is much better and Allen carved them up through the first 4 weeks (and 3 of those teams currently have winning records so it wasn't just that the schedule was easy). Now teams are defensing us with an eye to our weakness which is at TE and RB - not Allen. If what we saw from our RB's is real with Mongo back in the lineup and Knox comes back from covid then we might see the Bills go on another offensive tear. It will just look a little different then the one we saw in the first 4 games. -
Josh Allen - week EIGHT report card
CincyBillsFan replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think today was a great example of where judging a QB by his stats can be misleading. I would give Allen a B+. As others have noted he had several successful audibles that resulted in big yardage. On the big pass play to Diggs Allen was looking for the home run strike way downfield. That was a check down pass that the 2019 Allen probably doesn't take and it led to a TD. In the 2nd half Allen led the Bills to 17 points on 4 possessions. And if Gabe hangs onto that TD pass it would have been 3 TD drives in 4 possessions. Bellicheat was counting on Allen getting greedy then getting rattled and he was neither. That played a big role in the Bills win today. -

Absolutely and I believe Allen checked off to runs that worked well in the 2nd half on both TD drives. The offense played very well in the 2nd half. If Gabe hangs onto that pass the Bills would have scored TD's on 3 of their 4 second half possessions. -

Great post and spot on. I guess it comes with old age and over 50 years caring abut the Bills but a win is a win. And when you put the ice-pick through the head of the zombie Pats it's a reason to celebrate. The weather was the great equalizer today. It took away the Bills most dangerous offensive weapons and gave NE a chance. And as you pointed out this game was the NE season. Cam knew it; Belicheat knew it, the Pats coaching staff knew it and the players knew it. This is a proud organization less then 2 years away from a Super Bowl victory and they were never going to go quietly in the night. They were only ever going to go away kicking and screaming. Today we got the monkey off our back. Going forward this will be huge and now at the halfway point we stand all alone at the top of the AFC East with a 6 - 2 record. -
Simm's makes a good point BUT when the Bills throw caution to the wind (and this Sunday that might be literal) and ignore the passing game they can shut down the run. The fact that Cam is struggling and the water boy may be playing WR suggests the Bills will redefine crowding the box and be able to shut down the Pat's running game without fear of getting burned over the top.

Look I get it's likely to be windy on November 1 in Orchard Park NY. But IMO people are trusting the weather forecast way to much. It's Thursday so why would anyone believe what the weather clowns are predicting for Sunday? 50 mph gusts - maybe and then again probably not.

And it's tough to nickle and dime a team down the length of the field with a below average rushing game and below average TE receiving production. When we tried the same tactic against the Chiefs it worked as Mahomes and his receivers didn't really hurt us. But the Chiefs TE's and running game killed us.

Bills Stat Pacing through 7 Games
CincyBillsFan replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My don't the Allen detractors drag the goal posts around. It wasn't to long ago that your lot were saying Allen would never be able to sustain a 60% completion percentage! Now he sucks because he might not be able to maintain a 70% average. -
A timely reminder that even the very best QB's can have off nights at critical moments. Glad we're not playing Seattle next week.

When I think of hollow 300 yard games I'm thinking of games where teams get down big time and the QB throws for 300 yards in a losing effort against prevent defenses. DeShawn Watson had just such a game today. Now that was a hollow 300 yard game. But Allen's 300 yard game led to 9 straight drives deep into NYJ territory. The Bills did not have to punt and had 8 FG attempts. Sure they didn't get a TD but had one called back on a ticky tacky call and the other didn't materialize when Kroft fell down. But today was far from a hollow 300 yard game. In fact without a viable running game Allen's 300 yard game was the substitute.- 30 replies

But today Allen broke away from the norm - over 300 yards passing and completing 70% of his throws. -
Against Seattle the Bills will need an LA Rams type game. Against Arizona the Bills will need a Raiders type game.

The quality of NFL officiating is becoming hard to take. It ruins the games to see the number of mistakes and missed calls by these guys.

Metcalf wins the Don Beebe hustle award.

Solid B+ First the Bills won. Second the Bills drove into FG position on EVERY SINGLE possession. They did not punt. 307 yards passing & 61 yards rushing for a total of 368 yards. That's highly productive. Had one fumble but QB's fumble a lot when the edge rusher blows by his guy and hits the QB as he's looking downfield. The reason Allen didn't get an A from me was that the Bills struggled in the red zone. Some of this was on Allen. But most of it was on bad luck, no power running game and much below average TE play. A running game and good TE play are essential to red zone production. The Jets may suck but they're in our division and Greg Williams knows how to defense Allen. That Allen showed great patience in taking the check down passes was very encouraging. And completing 70% of his passes was a nice rebound from the last 2 weeks.

It did but a couple of those holes were HUGE and we should have had bigger gains on those runs. IMO Moss looks to be the more natural RB compared to Singleterry. Motor is your classic 3rd down back. -

Like others have said a win is a win no matter how ugly. This was a weird game for the offense. NO PUNTS and 422 total yards. On EVERY possession the offense was able to drive it into FG range. EVERY SINGLE DRIVE. Part of the problem was that until the INT the defense played very poorly in the first half which robbed the offense of 2 or 3 possessions. Give the coaches credit for adjusting on both defense AND offense at halftime. We still can't run the ball which is a problem. Our RB's don't hit the hole very fast and they don't run through any tackles. Hell getting them to fall forward seems to be a chore. IMO Allen did fine. Completed 70% of his throws, had over 300 yards passing and drove the Bills into FG position on all 9 drives. He also led the team in rushing. And it was great to see Hughes have a fantastic game. -

TWO picks and should have had two more. I assume Jerry posted this in the 2nd quarter? These guys are so transparent. They want to see Allen fail so badly that they violate rule #1 of watching football - wait until the end of the game before you announce who is and isn't playing well. As an aside, Baker Mayfield was 0 - 5 with 1 INT in the 1st quarter today. After that he went on to complete 23/24 passes & 5 TDS. At least with this tweet Sullivan proves he's a moron. -
I did the same. My reasoning was that I think Allen will rise to be a top 3 QB for the next 5 - 10 years. Burrow will rise to be a top 5 QB over that time.

Aikman and Buck were unprofessional last night. The point where Aikmans bias came into play was when Diggs dropped the perfectly placed deep ball by Allen in the back of the end zone. He sort of threw out how Diggs usually routinely makes that type of catch but no comment on Allen's accuracy there. Given that last season Allen would not have been able to place a long pass on Diggs hands at the back of an end zone it would have been a good time for Aikman to have noted that. That throw was an example of how much Allen has improved. In fact when the Fox graphics crew threw up that stunning chart looking at Allen's first 16 games passing stats and his last 16 game state line it disproved EVERYTHING Aikman had said. It was clear from the data in that chart that Allen was overcoming any accuracy issues he may have had at Wyoming. I'll take Tony Romo any day over Aikman as an NFL color analyst.

There was a guy down here in Cincinnati named Kenny Anderson who was more accurate then Aikman.
