Divisional Round: Buffalo at KC Sunday at 6:30
CincyBillsFan replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it's still very early in both players careers. Tomorrows game is big for each from a legacy standpoint and Mahomes could increase his playoff performance over Allen or Allen could cut into that lead. Either way though they're both just now wrapping up the first third of their careers. There's a lot of playoff football in the future for both guys. Win or lose tomorrow, Allen has had a solid start to his playoff career going 3 - 2 with a QB rating over 100. In any playoff comparison between Allen & Mahomes you can't ignore the fact that Mahomes came to a playoff caliber team and Allen was part of a Bills rebuild. That they're now both competing at the highest level of the AFC is amazing from a Bills perspective. -

"fan base does things that are barley lawful" - not bad! -
Another accolade for Josh Allen - Best under pressure

When a guy is as dangerous running the football as Allen is how do you think a LB or safety sees his moves in the pocket? Does it cause them to hesitate or get a bit out of position thinking he's about to take off? I guess my point is can you really call it "wasted motion"? -

And don't forget the debate about Flutie versus Johnson! -
Most of these people can't comprehend the impact of that kind of wind on a passing game. It simply reflects that on the rare occasions that the wind is whipping 30 - 50 mph where they live they are indoors. I remember back in my college days going to a Bills game on a wind day and we couldn't get a cooking fire lit because of the extreme wind - no matter how much lighter fluid we threw on it. And throwing the football around in the parking lot like we did before every game? Forget about it. It wasn't worth the effort as the ball just got knocked down or blown side ways. To be honest, I'm amazed at how well Allen did throw the ball in those two wind games at the Ralph. He may be the only guy that could have done it.

What is so annoying about this article is the sense that the wind conditions that night were not a big deal. Like Colin Cowherd said "it took an epic nor'easter to ground Allen and the Bills that night". There was NOTHING useful to learn from that game because the weather conditions were EXTREME. Belecheck gambles on not throwing the ball and it barely worked as the Bills twice were in the red zone late to take the game. It just shows that an "in the moment" analysis by these so called experts usually sucks.

But it won't be forgotten. Think about the millions of Bills fans who still fondly remember the Super Bowl years. Contrast that with how we remember the team during the long drought.

And what QB plays well enough to win every game? Allen played great against TN and in the 2nd half against Tampa yet the Bills lost both games. And why bring up the Jags game? How about Mahomes game against TN? It happens to the best QB's. Allen's consistency is perfectly acceptable and that's why the Bills are playing in the elite 8. To say otherwise is bizarre for someone who has supposedly been watching the team the last 2 seasons.

That's an insane view on life and achievement. I wonder what a Detroit Lions fans would say to that?

Bingo. IMO this new hurdle of winning a Super Bowl before some people admit Allen is a great QB or the Bills have become a great franchise is just another example of the passive aggressive way these folks attack Allen & the Bills. So for the record how many Super Bowls did Jim Kelly, surrounded by HOF talent, win? Yet at this point Kelly is still the greatest QB to ever play for the Bills. And how about the legacy of Marino & Fouts? And in their LONG NFL careers how many Super Bowls did Brees & Rogers win? Allen is already a proven elite QB in the NFL and nothing that happens on Sunday will change that. I think we tend to forget just how far the Bills have come in a short period of time. In 2018 when they drafted Allen they had only gone to the playoffs once in 18 years and that was by a fluke. The Bills had not won a division title or a playoff game in 25 years. In 2018 the team was in a complete rebuild especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hell, after getting blown out in their first 2 games of 2018 there were people claiming the Bills couldn't beat Alabama! They were the laughing stock of the NFL with a rookie QB that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The Bills were a franchise in perpetual crisis. Now look at us. Three seasons later and we're making our 2nd straight trip to the elite 8. Our head coach & GM have built a roster that can compete for a Super Bowl and our QB routinely sets franchise records and does things that no other QB could. Our Super Bowl window is open as long as the coach, GM and QB are here and that looks like at least the next 10 years. So while it would be disappointing not to beat the Chiefs and move on to the AFC championship game the future looks brighter then it has since 1988.

IMO, no matter what happens on Sunday Allen has already proven it. Sure winning a Super Bowl is the final goal but given that this was only Allen's 4th season there is a lot of time left for him to win it all. The fact remains that when Allen came to Buffalo as a rookie it was a team that was in a complete rebuild, particularly on the offense. It was a team that had only made the playoffs once in the previous 18 seasons and that was because of a fluke win by the Bengals. The Bills were an organization that hadn't won a division title or a playoff game in over 20 years. That first season for Allen was chaos and we shouldn't forget that. And making matters even more challenging was that unlike almost every other QB drafted in the NFL Allen's path to the pros was unconventional and he was clearly still learning how to play the position. Mahomes came into a much better situation then Allen did. And that's not to take anything away from the awesome career Mahomes is having. But IMO it's unrealistic to put Allen & Mahomes on the same timeline when it comes to winning a Super Bowl Beyond all the expectations of 2018, the Bills are now built for a long run as a top team in the NFL because we have the GM, Head Coach and most importantly the QB to do it. A SB will come and IMO it will be sooner rather then latter. But Allen has already cemented his position as one of the elite QB's in the NFL.

What's frustrating is to read how wrong this Tyler Dunne guy got it. He talks about how Allen struggled in the playoffs last year against Baltimore & KC. First he didn't mention the masterful game Allen had against the Colts to win the first playoff game. Nor did he mention that the Baltimore game was played in a wind storm and Allen actually played well by the standards of playing under those conditions. Only in the KC championship game did the situation seem to big for Allen and he didn't bring his A game. Funny though that last years AFC Championship game was in Allen's 3rd season and I don't remember anyone claiming that Allen's lack of experience contributed to his game. Yet a couple of day's ago in Kyler Murray's 3rd season, it seems like everyone was blaming Murray's game on his lack of experience! I mean Murray had one of the worst games in recent memory by a QB and it's all because he doesn't have a lot of playoff experience. No matter what happens Sunday, and Allen might struggle, there is no doubt that Allen has arrived and is a top 5 elite level QB.

JT O'Sullivan with the snark - Josh Allen film session

Kubiac described that play as intentional and NOT a throw away. Allen was blowing smoke so he can throw it away again for a TD! "Allen said afterward that he was attempting to throw the ball away and didn’t realize it had been caught. But the type of soft throw shows the Bills knew the Patriots’ defensive backs were not going to back-pedal in the end zone, but instead were going to play underneath the Bills’ receivers." Kubiac spilled the beans and explained why it wasn't a throw away. -
Kubiac has blown Allen's cover and is calling BS on the claim that he was throwing the ball away: "Allen said afterward that he was attempting to throw the ball away and didn’t realize it had been caught. But the type of soft throw shows the Bills knew the Patriots’ defensive backs were not going to back-pedal in the end zone, but instead were going to play underneath the Bills’ receivers." By claiming he threw the ball away Allen preserves a strategery here. And Kubiac lays out what that strategy was.

I get saying Allen is a notch below Mahomes - I would probably agree though I think the difference is getting smaller by the game. But to say Allen is below Herbert is just plain crazy. While I think Herbert is great QB who is going to be elite for the next decade he's clearly beneath Allen at this point.
-
That's buying into their screwy false narrative. There are a lot of retired Bills in the HOF who never won a Super Bowl. I don't know what motivates these people to come on 2BD and take shots at Allen. Now that Allen is an elite QB though they have to go all passive aggressive to do it. In fact it's a sign of Allen's progress & success that they're reduced to calling out Allen not winning a SB yet! My guess is that if not this year sometime in the next couple of years even that will go away as Allen leads the Bills to a SB. Bingo.

Interesting rushing stat involving Allen and Singletary

Read option baby - CAN YOU DIG IT! -
My goodness do these clowns actually get paid to express their knowledge of football? Keep in mind this is after the 2019 season where Allen made big strides in his performance. No wonder Allen is still questioned by some in the national media- their reputations were shredded by him. I guess I should cut these "experts" some slack as they at lest thought Allen was better then Stidham!

Let's not forget that BOTH Amazon & Apple have made live sports events their number one priority and no live sporting event can touch the NFL. The CAP is going to explode over the next couple of years. This will: * Make Allen's contract look cheap faster then you think. * Combine the big CAP bumps with an increased revenue stream from a new stadium and the Pegula's will be able to have their cake & eat it to - we'll see free agent signings where needed while the overall financial situation for the Bills improves. Talk about a perfect sweet spot. Finally the Bills have a franchise coach & GM. Keep them happy and in Buffalo and this run will go on.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. Jones is a handful but ALL 4 Bills WR's were playing hurt. Allen's mobility can at least partially compensate for Jones but if his WR's can't separate things can deteriorate fast. As an aside did Jones lay against Cincy? If he did the Bengal's were able to deal with it and that's with Spain at guard. One last point, the Bills running game really is a lot better then it was in last seasons championship game. If the Bills are patient and stick with their running game it will pay dividends against an aggressive D-lineman like Jones.
