Hopefully the era of kick return by committee is over for the Bills. Now if they can get that punter Borq healthy, maybe bring in a few more to compete in camp...we will see what the energetic ST guy with very little actual coaching experience can do.... That unit cost us 2-3 games last year...and did their best to give the team crappy field position for most of the others. The bar is not set that high.

They may roll with more than Kroft and Croom on the roster I think. 6 mil is around middle of the pack money, is a bit front-loaded, and only 3 years. Kroft is coming off of injury too. Pretty deep TE talent this draft so it is not a stretch to think they will grab another to develop. If they do, I think it would be in the later rounds so probably no Hock for us. Maybe they will shock me, but it will be hard for McDermott to pass on some of the elite defensive talent available early this draft.

Never thought your take was too far-fetched. I don't think that the McBean FO has been that reluctant to jettison players or coaches they have brought in if they felt they could improve that area with someone else, and all the comments about looking to add receivers who can catch the ball... Addition by subtraction and makes sense if they can upgrade the spot...thoughts of him moving to a slot role are out too - the Beasley signing looks like that to me. If Zay is not worried, he should be.

If they stay the course I think we may actually have a better idea how to mock this upcoming draft. Looking like DL to me right now - at least early on. After that, they have really positioned themselves to stay true to their BPA philosophy and as much as people are high on some of the receivers and TEs (me included), I think they go after a DE and perhaps LB thinking of eventually having to have that depth behind Hughes and Alexander. I just cannot see McDermott not taking advantage of a draft that is deep with defensive talent - hopefully they do pick up some offensive development players in the later rounds.

The only thing with Allen is if you give him more time he is almost always going to try to push the ball downfield. Interesting problem to have for a change. He has that gun-slinger mentality and probably always will. I am sure it is going to frustrate the coaches a bit that he passes up some easy completions. That being said, if the offense fields an improved running game, play action will actually have an effect, and if protection holds up, more of those deep shots are going to work.

IMO spend to the cap with no future consideration is not a sound strategy to build a good team. I would like to think that Beans would position the team to be competitive but also able to be in position to retain some of the young talent we are developing. Or they could do what has been done before and watch our better players walk while we all B word about poor FO cap managment and player retention. I am not ready to hit the panic button because other teams go the Mario Williams splashy-signing route. Been there done that. But it is all good folks have different takes on this I get it.

This. Can't put lipstick on a pig. Winning cures a host of rep issues. Start winning, and players stop thinking it is where careers go to die.

Not saying you don't spend wisely to plug holes, but structure deals in a way where your team is not positioned to suffer constant feast and famine cycles. Keep some wiggle room to sign the guys you want to retain to longer deals (we may have a few in the works), don't backload deals that make it hard to move players towards the end of contracts that force you to have to eat a lot of dead cap.

This is the go-for-broke spending you see teams do when they feel they are really close to winning it all and needing that one last piece. The Jets with their do-over staff and new QB are not that team. Barring some kind of miracle gelling season, they are going to be pretty limited filling holes in their roster down the road. Reminds me of when my wife would get her once a year sales bonus and she would get that wild gleam in her eyes. No amount of logic, reason, or pleas for moderation has ever been able to talk her back from the spending ledge as it starts raining useless crap and Amazon boxes on me.

There have been some comments that he does not grade out as well with run blocking. I am just happy to see a guy who is not getting bull-rushed into his QB's lap, and when he is blocking in space on runs defenders are being pushed in the other direction. Been a while since I've seen that level of play....I'll take it.

The 4 year deal also sets them up to be able to draft someone next year or the year after to coach up for depth or to take over year 4 on a rookie contract if things do not pan out.

NE is sneaky good at those borderline kind of hits that take out good players.

I do worry about his health especially the concussions, for his sake and the team's. The Spencer signing makes more sense now if Beans was thinking he would provide decent quality insurance for Paradis or Morse - especially once (if) his hand fully healed. Morse's ankle seemed to require some screws to support it over rehab, but those were removed and he was cleared to play. Well he is probably no fan of the Patriots. The blind side hit that put him in concussion protocol - gotta say that Hightower is a beast because he just decleated a 300+ man and it looked too easy.

Paradis Both are pretty solid, Morse is younger and probably a better fit for a mobile QB like Allen. Jets are doing well and you can tell they want to protect Darnold, but Morse was the #1 C target for a lot of folks here.

You peeked my curiosity...did not follow a lot of the San Diego games. Will have to take a look.

We swamp the field with quality DB's and Safeties in our nickel and dime packages and what does NE do? The run the ball on us. Always feel like we are building the team to beat the NE team that was fielded 3 years ago. We've got them right where they want us:) Regardless, guys go down and we could always use the corner depth, and hopefully this is a draft where they can focus on other need areas.

Remember arguing furiously (under a different handle) about one of those nuggets years ago with this guy named BADOL....something. Not saying anything more than I owe you at least one "you were right" and I was wr.....not as right. Dammit. OK, now I can sleep better.

A lot of haters from Tennessee still mad because Hurd left that program. A few recognize that Jones and his staff misused the kid and once Hurd left what did they accomplish - they drove that Vol's program into the turf and were jettisoned 2017. Grinding a 6'5" player with that frame as a RB between the tackles - just crazy. The kid gets tore up and concussed, does the mature thing and asks the coaches if he can take more reps at WR and he is labeled a quitter. It was not like they did not have other options at RB either. Not the tune you hear coming out of the Baylor program Hurd transferred to. I hope the kid gets his shot and finds some success.

Just messing with folks, perhaps a few folks here were all in on this deal, some just feel like they were turned down for the prom the way he dissed the city, I never was into it as a solution. It's all good, fans should not take it too hard...f' him if he doesn't want to play in B-lo.

There are a few in this draft that can separate and have good hands. I think Johnson should be right in the mix, but will fall..may be the best bang for the buck this draft. Depending on his pro-day work I would take a flyer on Hurd in the 7th, or as an UFA. Has great size, toughness, and played through injury at Baylor. He had off-season scope work so will see if he has recovered the speed and burst. His Tenn affair was poor coaching IMO, but he could have handled it better. I chalk that up to just a lack of maturity and savvy.

Granted not every player shed lacked talent, but were they playing up to their abilities and cap-sucking contracts? Dareus saw the writing on the wall that he would be released by a cap-strapped Jags team and how bad that would look one year after the Bills let him go and restructured his contract so he could stay with them...claims he loves the culture. The Jags were a train wreck. Watkins, of the foot issues. All the talent in the world, but injury prone and can't stay on the field. Tyrod, benched for a rookie QB. Glenn, I think they should have hammered out a long term deal. I consider that a miss on o-line priority and planning...especially if your "plans" were to either start Peterman, semi-retired FA QB statues, or a raw rookie. They were high on Dawkins and I doubt Glen wanted to move inside, so there may have been more to that story. Beans has hit on the draft pretty well, but I was not a fan of trying to bring AB in...why go through all the trouble of clearing cap space just to tie it all up in that kind of player...can't deny the production, but the drama that comes with it. Julio Jones fits this team mold better if they just feel compelled to spend and bring in a proven vet at WR. The foundation has been laid, it is still early to talk about any kind of GM legacy for Beans (yeah, my phone keeps correcting his name to Beans, and I was too lazy to fix it, so "Beans" it is)
