The Steelers get a lot of respect in the football world.  They are usually competitive.  But I think you are giving them too much credit.  I thought they put a pretty weak team on the field against us in the wild card game.  I did not think the final score was indicative of how bad we beat them.  I have a hard time seeing either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields doing a lot on a game in game out basis in the AFC North.  But its always cool to see QB's on new teams.

I thought Kenny Pickett was excellent at Pitt his senior season.  He didn't show the same swag with the Steelers for whatever reason.  Although the game winning drive on I believe Christmas Eve two years ago against the Raiders in the cold and wind was pretty sweet.  I hope he gets another chance down the road to be a starter.

Well if you think I’m giving “too much credit” to the Steelers, you’re certainly giving too much credit to Kenny Pickett.

We didn’t in any way come close to “beating them badly” in the playoffs. Turnovers were the only reason we won. Defense was sieve-like at times. Maybe you watched another game. We still win even if Pickett was in and “showed up” instead of Rudolph but it wasn’t the brake beater you’re making it out to be…

Maybe down the road he’ll have some success like Baker has done; multiple changes of scenery to final land another starting job and it clicks. Don’t see it personally. Neither did the Steelers. Neither did their fans. Neither did a lot of the pre-draft pundits.

To each their own I guess.

All the QB movement this offseason has definitely been interesting.  What did Pickett say after they brought in Wilson?

Interesting moving on from a 1st round pick after 2 seasons in a very run based offense.  Tomlin obviously is very comfortable in his status with the team making those kinds of moves.  The Steelers do keep their head coaches.  Three since I have been following football.  That can be both good and bad.

Albert Breer reported before the trade that prior to the Wilson signing Pickett said he was open to competition for the job. The minute Wilson was signed he cancelled on a workout with the WR’s. Went silent and was apparently pissed they were making Wilson the starter and going back on it being a “competition”.

They need to move on from Pickett. He isn’t/wasn’t the answer. Smart move instead of holding on for something that probably won’t happen. Wilson isn’t it either but he’s proven success in the league and is experienced. That’s all Pittsburgh need to be even more competitive.

Maybe Fields is the answer? Who knows. Going by Chicago’s tenure, probably not either but at least they’re trying to fix solutions. Can’t ever fault them for that.

This morning from a friend who knows Beane VERY well. He sees him multiple times a week and apparently he was pretty pissed when this deal fell through. Armstead just went totally dark after the verbal.

The agreement was that Buffalo could match the deal right… They essentially had last dibs on a contract was the report…

Maybe he knew Buffalo wouldn’t match it and didn’t waste their time.

I mean let’s say he does and Jacksonville say “never mind”. Loses out on potentially his last big pay day.

No way were we ever paying that price for him.

Fields is better than Russell or Pickett.  He is also an excellent athlete who could end up blossoming under the right OC.  He therefore makes the Steelers better, but how Mich better is the question.

Eh. He’s about the same in terms of solely quarterback play to Wilson. Wouldn’t say better but definitely not worse. The best part to his game is what you specified; he’s an excellent athlete.

Not exactly a mock draft, but I've been playing around with scenarios to get us a 3rd round pick back, using the DraftTek trade value chart. Here's two I've come up with:

Scenario #1: Trade back from #28 to #36 with Washington. This makes sense for Washington because they also have pick #40, so I could see them wanting to get back into the 1st round rather than making two 2nd round picks in a row. In exchange we would get #100 from them (the last pick of the 3rd round), and a favorable late round swap - our #189 for their #139.

Total trade value is 215 points given up for us, 216 points for them. Perfect.

In this scenario our picks would look like this:

    R2 #4

    R2 #28

    -

    R3 #36

    -

    R4 #28

    R4 #34

    -

    R5 #4

    R5 #9

    R5 #25

    R5 #28

    -

    R6 #24

    R6 #28

    -

    R7 #28

Knowing Beane, he would use a couple of those 5th rounders to trade up higher in R3 or R4, or perhaps one of the 4th rounders to move up higher in R2.

This is my preferred scenario. I think at least one of the 1st round caliber WRs will still be on the board at #36 because of how strong the class is.

But perhaps Beane really loves a WR on the board at #28 and doesn't want to risk losing them, which I could forgive. In that case...

Scenario #2: Trade back from #60 to #66 with Arizona. Once again this makes sense for Arizona because they still have two other picks in the 3rd round. They would end up with two 1sts, two 2nds, and two 3rds with this trade. Good haul for a rebuilding team. In exchange we get their #104 for our #128.

Total trade value is 107 points given up for us, 109 points given up for them. Again, pretty much perfect.

This scenario would also feature a trade up back into the 3rd round with a different team, using #104 that we got from Arizona. I look at Tampa Bay as a good option because they have minimal day three picks, zero in the 5th round actually. We get #92 in exchange for #104 and #163. This is an equal trade value of 43 points for both sides.

In this scenario our picks would look like this:

    R1 #28

    -

    R3 #2

    R3 #28

    -

    R4 #34

    -

    R5 #9

    R5 #25

    -

    R6 #13

    R6 #24

    R6 #28

    -

    R7 #28

Also while doing this exercise I discovered that I have way too much free time.

That’s awesome and I’m with you on the preferred scenario. Hopefully if the trade up doesn’t happen and value is limited @ 28 they execute something similar.

I don’t disagree, I think a lot of these guys find themselves in bad relationships with questionable people, but that says a lot about both parties. Let’s say every accusation is false, there’s no need for a pro athlete to stay in that type of toxic situation, unless they are a mess themselves.

Oh. I’m not advocating anything is false or true. But like the old adage, where’s there’s smoke there’s fire.

Again both parties have their parts to play. Not to judge but they don’t exactly seem like absolutely homely women who devote their life to being a great wife, mother and friend to their family. A lot of them seem to propagate toxic situations. Throw that in with someone who may not be able to handle their emotions or anger soundly and it’s an absolute recipe for disaster.

Wonder how often they goad the situation to escalate to regrettable or detrimental events.

I’ve had a few friends over the years who have done their share of wrong in marriages but their wife’s poked a bear in arguments for years for hours on end when there was a dispute. Eventually to the point where one of them was beating him up regularly in those same arguments and he ultimately and unfortunately slapped her.

Dude got arrested, dragged through the mud and is paying out the nose for child support and alimony now.

Sometimes a women can make things appear worse and different than they are.

It's crazy how he keeps finding himself in these situations. Must be the unluckiest guy that ever lived.

Like anyone in trouble consistently, they have their part to play. But regarding his relationships and having done some simple looking into it due to the stories; seems like these women take him for a sucker and pay day.

No wonder he tried burning his house down. Allegedly.

With Thomas and AD gone dropped back twice picking up quality not quantity. Balanced draft.

Think if any, the first 2 are switched if you come away with them.

Don’t want to keep believing or stating so but that Darius Robinson kid could be something. #60 as his landing spot is highly improbable, even #43…

If the WR they want isn't there in the 1st, they could trade down and perhaps pick up a 3rd. I can't help thinking there will be an early run on WRs.

    Agree on all accounts.

I can’t see any of those premier X receivers lasting until 28.

The ones that are more realistic of the top group; Mitchell & Thomas Jr. are probably gone.

Trade back and picking up a 3rd rounder is indeed probably the smartest play.

In saying that, there will be a quality defensive player to fall a little if that’s the drafting scenario ahead… So they likely take the value there if they like them.

Kinda amazing value was so low. I would be happy having someone like him behind Josh.

    Totally.

Not absolutely enamored with Field but he is an improvement over what we have had the past few years.

Anyway, they wouldn’t have traded him to use for a 6th rounder. The play time to increase the pick was their selling point. That would never have happened here unless our worst nightmare materialized…. 🤐

Haha there was a Vegas book that had pretty solid odds on Pitt landing both Wilson and Fields. Guess they were right.

They got the first draft of this season’s script… 🤩

A 2025 6th?! That's the best they could do? With multiple teams nowhere at QB and relying on a Rookie.

Man, the league doesn't think much of Fields.

I think more of Fields than I do Pickett… Not by much though 😂

Not for nothing did the Steelers get more for Pickett than they had sent to the bears for fields?

Fields is better and has more potential than pickett

Yeah, they got a 3rd and two later picks while trading Kenny and a 4th.
