  1. Not really a lock draft but over the past few days since the adjustment of talent rankings for these sims, all I got to say is this after seeing some of the teams draft classes…

Thankfully the Cardinals are in the NFC. Real strong chance that team is a completely different one if Kyler can play well.

6 picks in the top 90; 5 in the top 71 is bonkers.

That article is a weird one. Not sure what to make of her comments when she isn’t aware they’re being picked up/recorded for her then to completely backpedal and spin the opposite narrative to the hot mic.

Either she felt disrespected or Stefon is that guy…

Hope it’s neither but it’s one or the other so hopefully the latter as that’d be a shiesty move of her to try and get people in your work field to paint a picture due to your inside knowledge that’s incorrect.

While I would love a Justin Jefferson trade...he's going to command record-breaking money when he signs his extension, and I don't think Beane is ready to turn around after the Diggs ordeal and hand $30million+ to another receiver.

Rather, what I view as more likely is that he'd prefer to draft a rookie in round 1, because that player would be cost-controlled for five years, and would allow him to spend money rebuilding other parts of the roster that need it.

The trade that makes the most sense to me is Chicago at 9 (they don't have a second rounder, and likely would be open to trading back and collecting more picks to build around presumptive first pick Caleb Williams). Something like our 1st round picks this year and next year, plus a 2nd and a 4th, would likely get this deal done. It would theoretically allow the Bills a shot at Rome Odunze (one of the "big three" WRs in this year's draft).

The other one that makes sense to me is Denver at 12. The Broncos may want to move back, collect more picks, and go after a Bo Nix type at quarterback. Something like our 1st round picks this year and next year plus a 2nd could get this done. This would theoretically allow the Bills a shot at Brian Thomas Jr, the next best receiver after the "big three".

Lastly, failing a move up, I could see the Bills either picking at 28 or moving back into the second round to add a third rounder. In this scenario, they'd draft a receiver in round two (the position is very deep in this draft), and then trade the newly acquired 3rd for a veteran receiver like Brandon Aiyuk. I don't necessarily see them going this route, but it wouldn't shock me.

You're right about one thing: Beane won't be standing pat at 28 and just doing nothing and using all 11 picks. He WILL be wheeling and dealing. It's a lead pipe lock.

So to piggyback off the Aiyuk thread that’s ongoing, if you’re trading at least one first rounder possibly 2, who are you trading for?

Jefferson or Aiyuk? Both want $ in the 30m range…

But I’m in the same boat as you. Don’t see them giving up the drafts picks and the cash either will command.

Chicago is as good a trade spot as any as they surely want more picks this year…

  4. For most, Diggs trade was coming at least next year.

That’s where I’m at. Why the Texans? It helps them out tremendously. If you’re trading him within the AFC, one of the other South teams would have been good a la KC trading Hill to compete within a rival’s division.

Chargers need a guy @ WR given the trades and QJ’s underwhelming performances when in the limelight last season. Maybe you could have thrown him in the mix with some other picks to get up to #5, if trading up that high is a scenario they see themselves looking into.

  5. Aiyuk is a solid player but no thanks to the projected $27-30m a year.

His own words is he wants to be top 5 of APY after the Mike Evans contract.

    That contract is $26m APY…

Not to compare to the Chiefs but they did just fine after getting rid of a guy who was asking $25m+ APY…

Keep the first round draft picks to help the whole team. Then get a guy that still gives some financial flexibility and can grow with Josh.

9ers don’t want to move on is the word on the street, can pay him while Purdy is on his peanuts. Probably entails at least a 1st and a 2nd for them to move him. Then the contract to boot.

    Pass for me. 2¢

  6. Hopefully this doesn’t force us into a position where we do end up trading up in the draft for one of the last consensus top 4; MHJ/Odunze/Nabers/Thomas…

Whoever we are on the phone will obviously know this enabling the chance to “fleece” more from us given they know 100% who we want.

Im sure like many, given the trade was pre-draft, that 2025 pick is probably ammunition to move up this year.

Is it realistic to make a trade for Jefferson or Higgins this year and push most of the cap hit on a new contract to next year?

Higgins could work but you’re probably better off keeping the draft pick as he doesn’t really define game changing talent.

Jefferson is a mental option as you’re giving up at least 2 firsts then sign him a massive contract where he wants $30m p/y. His own words.

Question becomes, if indeed it were a possibility, do you handicap your whole team for a QB/WR combo that’s proven? Or handicap the picks to a guy on a cost controlled contract to pair with your proven QB?

    Pros and cons for both.

  8. Because of it being a traded scenario, Peerless Price or Marshawn Lynch.

Probably Lynch more as we got virtually nothing for him… Those picks turned into Tank Carder and Chris Hairston…

Price we acquired a first rounder… Became McGahee and Peerless went completely downhill after an OK first season in Atlanta.

Both were key components to one side of the field and seemed to split fans according.

Our playoff wins haven't depended upon Diggs.   They've depended upon playing QBs like Skylar Thompson, Mason Rudolph, Mac Jones, a 39-year old Rivers in his last game ever, and in the case of the Ravens, a defense that had to defend a team who's top WR was Marquise Brown and whose leading rusher was their QB, otherwise JK Dobbins.  Otherwise we can't win any playoff games.

Pretty much agree with you there.  Let's also contrast Caserio with Beane.

Seems like it’s going to be similar scenarios across the board. Defensive coach which makes the team gravitate defensive the majority of the way whilst they have a grand slam HR @ QB on a rookie deal.

Even though they’re in the AFC, hopefully they don’t do what they did here and leave it a little too late to address additions to the offense.

Only difference is they have a decent OLine in place and under contract for the next 3 years…

Yeah. The P/O wins aren’t that great for the exact reasons you’ve suggested. And you hit the nail on the head, out-with the Miami game we haven’t depended on Diggs. Had a feeling they were moving on from him within the next few years, thought it would be when there’s at least a “#2” WR in place.

Maybe this forces their hand more to actually give the offense as many components as it can/has given the defense over the last few years…

The point is that Stroud already has more talent at WR around him than Allen's ever had.

Tank Dell had as good a rookie season as Samuel's ever had, slightly better.  Nico Collins is likely to be among the league's best next season.  Throw in Diggs, and when at 31 Robert Woods is your 4/5, you're lookin' pretty good.

Stroud was incredibly impressive this past season.  It's early, and it's Ryan's second season as a HC, but it shouldn't be unrealistic to consider that Houston dominates that division for the foreseeable future.  And if all that Ryan does with that troop is see early exits from the playoffs for four or five seasons, I don't expect that he'll be kept on.

Absolutely. Don’t disagree with you there bro. My only point was that they’re not specifically building a team around Stroud. They’re simply building a team. They had decent building blocks on offense and defensive and absolutely hit a home run on Stroud and Anderson. Key pieces for either side of the ball.

It was said in the run up to the end of the regular season and playoffs that teams are going to start following that model.

This year they’ve seemed to invest heavily on the defensive side, not that different or what we did here when Allen started taking off. A key piece here or there in the draft and they’re good. Maybe it works out for Houston? The higher draft picks didn’t work out for us as much as one would have hoped since Josh’s second year.

Houston will dominate that unless Lawrence and the Jags do a 180° and Richardson and the Colts stay healthy.

No disrespect to Tennessee but you can count them out for the foreseeable future.

Credit to Nick Caserio more than DeMeco Ryans IMO. Dude inherited an absolute mess thanks to Bill O’Brien and Jack Easterby.

Except that I'm talking about what they've done on O.  What they've done on D, I'm not even aware of since it's immaterial to my point.

It's about how after Stroud's monumental record-setting rookie season, they're dumpe resources into building around him.

We've never done that with Allen, ever, in any of Beane's 6 prior drafts/offseasons.  The emphasis has always been on the D.  It's a safe bet that's coming from McD, not Beane.

Dalton Shultz (who signed a 1 year deal before the 2023 draft) and Noah Brown were the only offensive signings so far this off season. Both resigns.

Last year he was still an unknown at #2 when they drafted Juice Scruggs and Tank Dell.

Aside those 4 players, only 2 of whom were added around Stroud, Joe Mixon is the only other addition.

Their attention is on defense. They had the tackles in place and brought in Shaq Mason to fill one of the other guard spots. All three of those guys are on decent contracts.

They gave Shultz a decent contract and resigned a guy who they like in Brown.

To me, again, they’re building a team on both sides of the field. Defense needs more work than the offense hence the acquisitions so far this off season.

Probably said this a couple of times in this thread but what bums me out the most in this trade is you sent a savvy vet to an easily top 8 AFC team. They needed help in working the underneath stuff for Stroud.

Diggs, Shultz and a running back combo of Mixon/Pearce should fix that.

Well, the original implication is that Houston's also building around Stroud, whereas we got Allen, made building around Allen secondary to McD building out his pet D to #1/2/4 standards.  That would all be fine and dandy if the D didn't play like the 25th ranked D come playoff time, and Allen had some real help without spending $96 for four, ... rather three years, for a WR.

We've taken a nearly completely opposite approach.  We'll see what happens, but also paramount to my point is that the outcome of the @ Houston game will either validate or invalidate our and conversely their approach, generally speaking.

I don’t know about that. Houston spent some pretty decent cash on the defense this off-season…

Danielle Hunter, Autry, Desmond King, Al-Shaair, Mario Edwards, Derek Barnett, Jeff Okudah, CJ Henderson and Fatukasi were all given contracts this FA.

They’re adding to both sides of the field whilst they have, what looks to be, a stud on his rookie deal @ QB.

If Brian Thomas JR falls to #20-#23, it’s possible

If he does, yes. But then you’re trading what, a pick that’s in the 200-300 point value range.

Guess my thoughts of that not being in our possession is them trading into the 10-20 range.

I love those guys at Cover 1, I don’t always agree with them, but I bet you $100 that when the 2025 NFL Draft incurs, fans will be euphoric that we have an extra RD2 pick.

That pick is probably gone this year.

  15. Wonder if we can find one of those teams in the 10-15 range who’ll take 28, the 2025 Minny 2nd instead of the 1st rounder and then flip their pick that’s after 60 but not out of the 2nd/3rd round range.

Looking at the teams it’s possible for

    Indy: 15 & 82 for 28, 60 & the Vikings 2nd rounder?

    Seattle: 16 & 81 for 28, 60 & the Vikings 2nd?
    Denver: 12 & 75 for 28, 60 & our 2025 1st?

New Orleans is tricky given the draft picks they have this year.
Oakland have the picks but a lot of holes to fill. Probably want to keep the 3 they have in the top 80 (13, 44 & 77).
Jets aren’t giving up the 10 spot to a division rival unless we are screwing ourselves over. No thanks.

The move was not really a big surprise but I had a huge empty feeling when I found out. Obviously Diggs was a pain in the butt sometimes in the locker room but his zero tolerance of losing and BS was pretty impressive. Also one the best receivers we have had in years here and one of the toughest players I've ever seen based on the hits he took (often late and dirty). He also made some huge catches in his time here and got some key TDs. It saddens me that one of the final memories of him will be that drop in his last game against KC and Allen overlooking him wide open at the end of the game. Just like with Trey, Poyer and Hyde, Diggs deserved to win a championship here. One of my favorite Diggs moments was him getting a TD vs NE where he berate the audience in Gillette with F bombs. Totally rude but awesome!

Precisely where I’m at. Stings more that he was traded to the biggest up and comer in the NFL, let alone the AFC.

Houston are going to have a chance to be a serious problem.

They signed Danielle Hunter and Autry to add to their pass rush whilst adding Mario Edwards who is decent depth.

The secondary sees Jeff Okudah and CJ Henderson brought in to support Stingley and Desmond King (who they also resigned).

On top of those additions to the defense they brought back Noah Brown. Acquired Joe Mixon and now add Stefon Diggs.

They’re now on par with us in the AFC.

I don’t think this was originally the plan. That tweet from Diggs had to have been the last straw. No way you just let your top two WR’s walk out the door. The fact that they didn’t get more for Diggs and traded him within the conference says they just wanted to be done with him.

    Which tweet would that be?

Name a rookie WR that was that good. It takes young WR's 2-3 seasons to be good let alone a WR1 for a Superbowl team

    Very recently:

    Jamar Chase

    Justin Jefferson

    Puka Nacua

    Chris Olave

    Garrett Wilson

    AJ Brown

Pats guys that come to mind:

    Randy Moss

    OBJ

    Anquan Boldin

    Mike Evans

    Michael Thomas

    Certainly possible.

Draft 2 guys at the minimum.
