Reading the latest on interviews, it does look more and more like Sherman has the edge. OBD has him scheduled for an interview, but only informal talks with Haslett so far. Hmmmmm???? Bet if they can get Sherman for the right price, he'll be the man. I'm not overly impressed the Jauron being a candidate.
-
Just read from KFFL that Haslett is now the leading HC candidate. My question is, how do they know he is? Is it really possible? My other question is, how long will the team sit idle waiting to pick a coach or do you all think there is someone on the horizon already? It will definately be interesting to see who it's going to be. Part of me wants to see familiar faces, but the other part wants to see someone new. Hopefully it'll be someone with experience either way. I just hope the second coming of Marv really does some good.

More from Mortensons chat...now Mort
bobinaz replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do remember seeing the Elvis fan at the Tuesday practice talking to MM and TD when it was decided to make Holcomb the starter against the Dolphins -
I will give you that much...I never liked the whole "hide and seek" that was played with the media and fans. But how much of that did TD have to do with it or was it all MM?

You are a reporter at the press conference today
bobinaz replied to smokinandjokin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree whole heartedly about the release of Rusty Jones...that was so ill advised. My question would be for Marv: "When is Jim Kelly going to be here?" -
You people crack me up...reading all the whining and crying about who should go and stay, who should be the next hc or gm, and all the slams on marv. Maybe some of you should apply for the jobs. IMO, let's wait and see what the press conference has to say, then you all can complain or praise the decision made. Everyone is taking Mort, Clayton's, and all the other media dipsticks for the gospel when they probably haven't a clue either. They're speculating like everyone else is. Is the sky falling? Maybe, maybe not chicken littles, but you all have been bitching this whole season about people being canned and what not...well you have your wish. Unfortunately none of us are in a position to make the decisions of who to bring in. If you have that much of a problem with it, don't buy your tickets, cancel your Bills digest subscription, and unplug your computer. If not, then shut up, sit down and color.

That was the worst game I've been to
bobinaz replied to SF Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The wife and I left after JP was intercepted in the third quarter....what a disapointing game. I had to endure laughing Charger fans all around us. As for next season, Adams and Vincent need to go. They are definately showing their age and lack of motivation. Clements is sure as gone; he's not a playmaker. And I would like to see Donahoe move on, not that it will happen. He has done nothing but settle for mediocrity for 5 years. Jerry Gray needs to go else where. His defense is so porous. Granted Spikes and Edwards were injured, there is no excuse why they have played so lousy. Apparently the brain trusts felt the depth was good enough when the cuts were made that there'd be no drop off in talent should someone get injured. Wrong!!! His resume for a head coaching spot just went down the tubes, and yesterday's game put the icing on the cake for what has turned out to be such a wonderful year for the defense. The offensive play calling has me baffled, especially after yesterday. I didn't know that MM was calling the plays. Why? Isn't that what TC is suppose to do? As for the rest of the season, bench Reed, let Roscoe play. Keep JP in there to learn for next season. Continue to develop Peters at RT. And look for a good OL in the draft. -
I am...I have two tickets on the 35 yard line, visitor side, 18 rows back from the field. much better than the nose bleed seats that the san diego backers club was given to sell

Going to the DMB concert in Phoenix at the end of August...has anyone been to a show yet of this latest tour? I see he is scheduled for Buffalo...anyone heard how good the tour is so far? This is my first one for him finally and really looking forward to it. I bought the live concert from his 2002 tour at the Gorge and have been watching the DVD part of it to death. I'm really psyched about this. Any words from the wallers? Thanks

You'd think Travis would get a clue and realize "hey, if a trade doesn't happen and I don't play this year, what kind of contract would I get then?" In this day and age in the NFL, numbers talk and if Henry doesn't put up any numbers this season by sitting out, then that just goes to show how ignorant he and his agent really are. If it were me, I'd be at the camps, the team activities, etc., if just for face time, and be ready to go should I get the call. The NFL isn't for babies Travis.

KFFL reported that Joe Burns was resigned and Coy Wires contract was restructured. Said Wire is now signed through 2006. Don't know if this was posted or not...
-
I'm willing to bet TH stays in Buffalo. He's unable to stay healthy. IMO, why take a chance if the #2 guy has to fill in? That'll make you 0 for 2 with the one you traded and the one you picked up

Why is everyone so worried about losing two
bobinaz replied to justnzane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another possibility with the loss of JJ and Price not being resigned yet...maybe Peters and Bannon will be on the O-line this year....they did well last season. Guess time will tell -
I thought the team was in the neighborhood of about $10-12 million under the cap after they dropped Bledsoe and reworked Mould's contract? I'm wondering if we will sign any FA's. The prospect of the trade of Henry for Shelton seems to have died down. What's going on here Tom? The fans want to know......

MM came here with Clements preaching a more controlled, smash-mouth offensive game plan for this team. They were going to simplify the offense and put it into lamen's terms for the players. Well so far it this offensive scheme sucks. Sorry, but look at the Steelers. Their offense has taken off and winning games. I don't remember reading any boo-hoo letters when MM and TC left them to come here. Maybe TC is in over his head. Another Mike Shephard? The game plan is too predictable; defenses are standing up the players at the line of scrimmage. Every offensive formation looks the same; same movement, same set up. Who are they fooling? Defenses haven't really had to worry about a deep play to speak of. Sorry, but 4-5 long passes from DB in 4 games doesn't cut it. The WR's go out for the short routes and there is a defender draped all over him. The running game is going no where, the penalties are killing the team on 3rd down. How much more terrible can this team play. The O-line can't hold it's blocks long enough for DB to get back and set. I watch other teams and it's amazing how much time their QB has to set in the pocket. The defense needs LM back soon. First it's CW and now PP that's killing the team in the secondary. The defense bent and broke in the Jets game. TD built this mess. MM needs to fix it fast. It's way too late to do some ass reaming on the side line in the 4th qtr when your team has had to punt for 7 straight possessions. As for the Miami game, it will be interesting to see who is the hungriest for a win. It will be another close one, but I have my doubts the Bills will win. My prediction: Bills season record will be 4-12. Prepare for 2005 season: Let Evans, WM, and JP play as much as possible for the rest of the season. Start looking for talent on the O-line in FA and bring in a decent safety. I echo RW's comments after the Jets loss. This team does have talent, but no heart. Right now they're all over paid mercenaries.

After 3 weeks of watching this team lose, it's the veterans who are constantly making the bone head mistakes: Moulds: dropping easy passes, unsportsman like conduct penalties, misreads Fletcher: unsportsman like conduct penalties, delay of game, pass interference Henry: not understanding the play, falling down on the job, missed blocks Bledsoe: misreads, fumbles, immobility Wire: being beaten down field, lousy coverage player This is just a few but probably the most glaring. And these mistakes are coming at the most critical time and costing the game. But you all know this already. This team needs a spark. If it means bringing in Magahee for that goal line score, Losman for a change (when healthy), making Evans the second receiver (Reed isn't the answer, see last season) then do it. I am so sick of the lip service and BS rhetoric from this team week in and week out. I was impressed to a point with the first half of the game on Sunday, but I knew in the back of my mind that there were still 30 mins left to play and they'd find a way to blow it. I'm really disapointed that we haven't seen WM in there spelling TH or together in the back field. There is so much potential that is being wasted. MM said in his interview on ESR last night that he feels there is no drop off in talent from the starters to the backups. Well damn it then, put a back up in there when that starter constantly plays like crap and maybe he'll wake up and smell the coffee. Fletcher is really pissing me off and so is Wire. At least Wire sat in the end. But Fletcher is the defense captian and he knows better. If the vets can step up and play like vets, then let the backups start. And TD's comments to fans questions were reminiscent of a small child searching for an answer for misbehaving. Donahoes' drafts have sucked to say the least with the exception of a few. We needed help on the O-line and he failed to realize that. We needed help on DE and it wasn't addressed. This is frustrating to no end. I feel sorry for the season ticket holders who paid out the a$$ for tickets. As for me, it's too bad I paid my subscription in full for the NFL ticket already. I realize we have a new coach, staff and offensive game plan. But my god, you had how many mini camps, training camp, preseason, and now 3 games to get this crap together and yet, they still can't score more that 10 offensive points a game. We can only hope this is the 98 season resurrected. If so, then look for JP to start soon. This will come down to a rebuilding year, not a minor tweaking. Pull DB and start JP if the season is lost come November and let JP learn the ropes. Next season he'll start with a year under his belt with the new offense. Get Evans in there as the second WR. JR isn't getting it done. He's a slot receiver. If it's going to be another losing season, let's get next years starters in now to learn.

Pats 'dominant'/'dynasty'/streak - bah
bobinaz replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Give props to the Pats for winning and putting the game away at the right moment. But on any given Sunday, and this will be the one, the Bills will win. Like the previous post, 6 of the 17 games for the Pats were on the road. They haven't faced a defense like the Bills yet. Granted, they had two weeks to prepare as well, but I think if Grey continues putting pressure on Marsha all day long, the defense will hold them down. What we'll need is to run, run, and run some more, right up the middle. That's been the Pats weakness. Let's hope our O-line can do it with the injuries they are going in with. Villarial and Pucillo are listed as questionable. That leaves Tucker which won't be a drop off from CV. But if anyone gets hurt...that'll be a blow to the o-line without any other guards to fill in. So Bills nation, forget all hype about game winning streaks, because there is a point to be made for these season and it starts here. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I agree with Ice to a certain extent. The only way I'd start JP is either a) DB is injured, or B) the season is tubed and there is no hope of a playoff I agree JP needs to see the game at a faster pace than what he did in the preseason. Waiting until 2005 season for him and watch him suffer the growing pains then would not be wise. If DB flounders during a game and it's close, bring JP in for a change up. Defenses won't know how to play him. That might light the spark for the offense and get a win for that game. Granted he's a rookie, but I see some savvy in this kid that gives the team hope. It's unfortunate he broke his leg. I think he would have been a nice change up in the first two games to get the offense on track. Nothing against DB, he's a professional and a stand up guy, but his game play and decision making skills are diminishing quickly. Bills 24 Pats 17

For every loss over the past 16 games, we have heard the same excuses afterwards: DB: I've got to throw the ball better. I have to make better plays. I didn't get the job done. Coach: We have mistakes that are correctable. I haven't lost confidence in the offense. Offensive Players: We have to cut out the mental mistakes and play better ball. How much longer will we have to hear this crap until someone finally says what they mean? I am so sick of hearing the same rhetoric week after week. I'd just as soon have them say "we lost, there are no excuses". It seems more and more this team is living up to the reality that the NFL is a business. The mentality is "Bye honey, off to work. I"ll see you tonight. By the way, what's for dinner?" It seems like the players, at least on the offense, are showing up, taking what they get from the opposing defense, get paid, and go home. MM wasted no time in puting MW on the second string during preseason. My reaction was, "wow, this guy means business". But I haven't seen anything since where a fire is being lit under these players to excel. It seems like everyone on offense is content with being conservative, not stretching the defense and keeping them honest, and getting a little more creative. Was it me, or did the Raiders game look alot like the Jags game with the play calling? And for those of you that are bitching that we are not true fans because we're being all doom and gloom, tough. I've been a Bills fan for a long time, even during the 2-14 seasons, and it just seems to get worse and worse. I wish to god they'd stop bringing in these retreads, give us a year of growing pains with the likes of J.P. and give us the confidence of a winning season. DB has already proven it wasn't entirely the inept coaching from last season. I really believe that the offense has lost confidence in him and it's showing in their play. Look at how they did during the DF/RJ fiasco. You get someone in there who has a set, will step up and play ball, run around, make plays, and you'll have an offense with confidence. But with DB, everyone is running back to the huddle, or more often than not, to the sidelines after a sack, leaving him lying there. I posted yesterday that the Bills are becoming the AFC version of the Cardinals. You know teams are making are checking the win column that week already. I'm sorry folks, but unless they pull they're heads out of their ass during the bye and beat NE, it's going to be a long season.

Think about it....after 1.5 seasons of misery, teams surely must be salivating to get the chance to play the Bills. Cmon, look at some game tapes and see that all they have to do is blitz, pressure up the middle and presto, a sack, misthrow, or holding call. I had some optimism coming into this season with the coaching change, new offensive schemes. But after two games, it's deja vu from last season. We have picked up where we left off. The only difference is they have managed to score a touchdown each game. The defense can't carry this team all season. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the defensive players stop biting their tongues and start speaking their minds of the pitiful offensive playing. Maybe it wasn't the game planning or the coaches last year? Something has got to give and spark the offense to finish off drives and score. IMO, if they continue losing like this when JP is healthy, why not start him or put him in to spell DB if the game goes to crap. Heck, I was screaming for Matthews in the 4th qtr yesterday. I just hate to think of the Bills as the new AFC whipping boys.

Shane Matthews can't do any worse. Give him a shot. What do we have to lose?
