As I recall, JaMarcus had a problem with the whole “film study”/“prepare” thing that’s typically encouraged by coaches, not to mention putting a hurt on the Sunday brunch buffet line. Am not worried whatsoever about Allen following in those footsteps. Boller, not sure what his deal was. Allen just needs reps like crazy Aaron Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Stafford, Wentz, Wilson just to name a few have the opposite of a noodle arm

We’ve all seen crazy happen before in this league, and I think that a desperate team can also be super dangerous—wouldn’t be surprised to see all sorts of trickery and looks they’ve never shown before just to try to jump on the Vikes early and set a tone for the game. Now if only Leslie could install a bounty system for Cousin’s head...oh wait, wrong coordinator

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24702553/forget-home-debut-sam-darnold-new-york-jets-superstar-2018-nfl Hope I'm not just too selectively editing/highlighting here, but I think the point of this thread from buffaloboyinATL includes gems such as this from ESPN's Ian O'Connor, 2 weeks in to the season: "Nobody knows for sure if Darnold will be the quarterback to finally wrest the AFC East from Brady's eternal death grip, or if Miami's Ryan Tannehill, now 2-0, will surprise everyone in his comeback season and prove that his 39-40 career record does not accurately reflect the talent previously hidden within. But Darnold remains the best bet as Brady's divisional successor, even if that means he leads the Jets to one Super Bowl title in his career, never mind five. He has the presence, the athleticism and apparently the advanced maturity and poise lacked by his fellow USC Trojan Mark Sanchez back in the day. That's why Darnold's wildly successful big league debut last Monday night in Detroit might've represented the biggest one for a New York athlete since Derek Jeter homered and made a crucial over-the-shoulder catch in a 1996 Opening Day victory in Cleveland in his first game as the Yankees' full-time shortstop." The article ends with this fawning throw-away: "Welcome to the NFL, Sam, and don't get too discouraged -- Jets fans are expecting only one Super Bowl title over the next 15 or so years. With your talent and temperament, that shouldn't be too much to ask."

Brian Daboll's Painfully Boring Interview on WGR

Amazing amount of get up and go on that beast--looks like it could rival a greyhound in the quarter mile--if it could stay oriented in the same direction -
Brian Daboll's Painfully Boring Interview on WGR

He enrolled in the McD school of media relations, and is about to graduate with honors. Oh, and he doesn't want to give anything away to Zimmer, since he also knows you have 5K riding on the Bills losing ? (sorry, I had to grab the low-hanging fruit) -
Valid points. Regardless of anyone's personal views on kneeling, no NFL player is allowed to do whatever they want on their employer's dime, if against the rules to do so, just like any other employee. The only reason the owners haven't cracked down on it more is a PR worry--but by letting the issue fester without a real resolution, it's made it even worse IMO. Flyover America not happy, Kaep and his fans also not happy, great result! In the meantime we have to have arguments over whether or not Reid's off the field views should affect our GM's decision on whether or not to sign him. Football used to be an escape from political back and forth--wonder if it ever will be again?

Browns are going to the playoffs

Not even a fair comparison--Mahomes sat on his butt for year 1, learning, absorbing, being mentored by cagey QB vets, Andy Reid as his offensive muse, etc. Oh, and, he has a legit SB-capable supporting cast around him to bail him out. Allen? Not so much. If anything, it's almost more surprising that Allen looked as good as he did (at times) last week and didn't pull a Peterman, even after Vontae pulls his disappearing act, his WR's are doing their best impression of the walking dead on curl routes, and his center is setting up shop in his lap. That's progress by Allen, and I can't wait to see what he does when everyone around him also improves. I guess that's a long winded way of saying I'm good with the big fella right now. -

The coaching staff dynamics in Cleveland give me pause...not sure that they can put their individual egos aside for the good of the team—cutthroats at the coordinator spots and clueless at HC -
Inside the Film Room with McDermott and Tasker

This guy...this guy right here, he always looked comfortable on "coffee with the coach," but am I ever glad to be rid of him for so many reasons... -
That's part of my point though--you and I could take a crack at this GM thing and have just as much (or little) success for how many college All-Americans = busts in the NFL. That said, I am happy we have Tre White--lockdown CB on his side of the field anyway. Nobody's even tried to really test him yet this year (or had to). Compared to the rest, Dion also seems to be more than holding his own when not hurt.

Excerpt from: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000804541/article/2017-nfl-draft-quicksnap-grades-for-all-32-teams Buffalo Bills Draft picks: Tre'Davious White (No. 27 overall), Zay Jones (No. 37 overall), Dion Dawkins(No. 63 overall), Matt Milano (No. 163 overall), Nathan Peterman (No. 171 overall), Tanner Vallejo (No. 195 overall) Day 1 grade: A Day 2 grade: A Day 3 grade: A Overall grade: A The skinny: Instead of taking Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback of the future, they moved down 17 spots in the first round, allowing Kansas City to make the pick. They received a third-round pick this year and a future first-rounder for the move down. Buffalo selected a good corner in White with the 27th pick to take over for Stephon Gilmore, meeting a dire need. Well done. Buffalo certainly required help at the receiver position, and Zay Jones was the best value at the spot. In fact, they thought enough of Jones to swap a third- for a fifth-round pick in the process. They found excellent value in guard/tackle Dion Dawkins, who deserved to be picked higher. The Billsfound an excellent quarterback in round five, as Nathan Peterman should have gone a round or two earlier. Sixth-round pick Tanner Vallejo is a special teams ace and will find his way on the field on defense. ************************************************************************ Per the "expert" draftniks getting paid to voice an opinion in 2017, the McD Bills had a solid draft with all information known/available to them at that time, and plugged gaping holes spread throughout their roster. As other posters have rightly pointed out, still way too early to draw any real conclusions about either Mahomes (one hit wonder?) or Allen (JK boom or accuracy bust?), so why don't we come back to this sometime in 2019? And I would be remiss not to point out the Peterman shout out, lol

Have the greatest respect in the world for Frank, good guy, great player in his role, and I think would've made a good HC here too. Pederson also credits him for coming up with the offensive SB gameplan that stymied the Patsies D. But we have to roll with what we've got, and as mentioned before, the jury's still out. I will say McD can put a lot of naysayers to bed if he's able to build on the 2nd half of last week and keep play-calling responsibilities for the D--I just wish they weren't playing the Vikes in Minnesota this week.

Football for a Buck: The Story of the USFL

Impressive! I couldn't get past NJ Generals, the Express, and of course the Houston Gamblers (JK did always look good in their black unis) without looking it up -
One of the main points of this thread is when have we ever stared down worse odds coming into a game than this week? So it's more of identifying a correlation to games in our history than it is trying to predict an actual outcome. I for one am curious where this would rank in our history. If we can't talk about what interests us for every aspect of these games before and after, then what is the point of having a discussion board? I remember staying up late watching that one unbelievably slip away and feeling like it was worse than if the game had been a blowout--Bills had to dig deep into their bag of despair to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory that night
