I don’t disagree with you from a strategic long term standpoint; however, the dichotomy is that you at least have to pretend to be trying to win each game for your fanbase, which makes Fitz the better suited short term win one game this week answer over Rosen, I think that’s why. Once Fitzy bottoms out, then seamless logical transition to “right” Josh.

Taking over for Frazier to call D play calls at halftime comes to mind early last year, with immediate dividends paid. That’s not enough in-game adjustment for you? Or how about the fact that he never lost his team’s confidence/control, despite early season blowouts (due in no small part to scotch taped offense), with the team actually bouncing back quite nicely down the stretch? At the same time saddled with 50+ mill of dead cap $$ hamstringing the roster quality? Who would’ve done a better job under those thankless circumstances? Who? Sure he started NP—most of the board would’ve too, based on his Thursday All-American performances in the preseason where he frankly played so lights out he had to be the starter. The dude won a 3-way QB competition fair and square. The fact he wilted when the lights clicked on was dealt with quickly and the regime has owned its mistakes. For my money McD has done remarkably well with what he’s been given, he’s developed talent from the unlikeliest sources and we are poised for greatness now as a result of everything that’s led up to this point.

^^^This. Don’t forget the Jets just came through an offseason of rank dysfunction, firing their GM right after they gave him the keys to the kingdom in running the draft and finishing up FA! Who does that and expects to be world beaters the same year? Their line is expected to be terrible, and their coach who apparently won a power struggle, never wanted the biggest FA splash that they got, in Bell. Why shouldn’t the Jets be on a “prove it” basis even more so than the Bills? They are the ones with a 1st yr HC who was just fired within the same division (how do those types of hires usually go, *cough* sexy Rexy) 1st yr GM and questions along their roster to boot. C’mon man! We should be considered favorites to sweep them imho, and be in a class of better teams above them.

Reports from camp this year were overwhelmingly positive for him comparatively speaking, IIRC, but yes, he failed to hold contain throughout much of the night against Carolina. I’m still not sure what to make of him honestly—I guess mostly I assume he’ll end up injured by Week 4 and be a non-story thereafter? Hope he proves us all wrong and has an all-pro renaissance season!

We’ve flogged this same article/author to death in another thread already, but it bears repeating—Allen can do everything right as requested since end of last season (work on short/medium passing attack, take what D gives you), and the national narrative becomes that’s proof he sucks even worse because we can’t trust preseason, whilst Murray (or whomever, fill in the blank) is given a mulligan for every failed pass attempt because, preseason. Got it!

Your list is not all bad. Totally agree with basically all of your NFC picks, including the Lions lowball. The wagon wheels come off with your AFC picks however. Won't go through them all, but the pink elephant in the room is your KC homerism on full display--KC has unanswered questions on the line (miss Morse this year too), a backfield question and the unknown of all of the off-field drama and its impact on team cohesion, etc. Also not sure how the Jets wind up with more wins than the Bills this year, objectively speaking. Yes, they have a rusty Bell and good Darnold, but their line is trash and their FO dysfunction will catch up to boot. A coach who relies on smelling salts to get his groove on and under-performed in Miami--I'm not expecting big things. Apart from the AFC West and East sections, I'm good with the rest of it though.
