How is he a below AVG backup? I am no expert, but in 2020 he played as an above average starter at RT, that is why Beane paid him 8M AAV. His play was worse in 2021 apparently, but do you really think he is below AVG backup? That doesn't make sense to me given the quality of OL play in the league. Like I said I am not happy if backup OL takes 10M from cap space but since OL is a priority imo I'd save the money elsewhere (if they don't manage to keep him for less, which I hope they do). I am saying don't cut him unless you have better player then him. And again, I have spent hours playing with our salary cap. We can save money elsewhere.

Agreed. And it seems that it happened to many posters here. In midseason many people were vocal how they "knew" that it was not good to run with the same OL and how Beane had neglected it, and suddenly after couple of better games it seems forgotten. I say bolster the OL as much as possiible. Glad to hear Beane thinks the same. Hopefully he proves it in FA.

Well that is not what I am saying. I want to upgrade the line in draft and FA so Williams can become BACKUP. It is not running it with the same people. I do understand our cap situation. What I am saying is that I'd save money elswhere. I am willing to pay even backup OL more than teams usually do just to make sure OL is best as possible and I will not see another Jags game anymore. And unless you can get a player who is actually BETTER than Williams I keep him and don't care about the cap. If we need to save money, then try to trade Edmunds. I think he is better than most people give him credit for, but we can't pay everyone and we are already paying Milano (and I'd rather keep Oliver and Knox in upcoming future). But that is another discussion

I strongly disagree with Williams. We need to have better starters and better depth and thus cutting Williams makes no sense imo. If he gets too much for RG then fine try to change his contract but even if that is not possible keep him unless you are sure you actually get someone better. I am happy to hear this from Beane, I think OL should be top priority. My plan is to tender or re-sign Bates, keep Williams, get top OL FA we can afford (up to 10M AAV or so), draft OL in first three rounds (probably OG, but could be also OT if he is possibly good enough to replace Dawkins and move him to LG). I assume Morse retires, that is how you pay OL FA. If not, still try to get best FA possible (presumably little cheaper one). Then roll with Dawkins-rookie-Bates-FA-Brown with Williams as primary backup + Doyle. Then rest of depth should be whoever they consider best from Ford/Feliciano/Boettger/other FA/other later round draft pick. If Morse stays, even better.

I can assure you that I don't belong to the "we invested too much to defense" category - I understand that it does not matter what we did in the past, we just need to do what is best moving forward. If that is drafting 3 DL in first 3 rounds, so be it. However, I do think that key to our success is OL. I'd say draft one high and get best one you can in FA. If Scherff is too expensive, then get the next one. But we can get him for 13AAV I'd do it in a heartbeat. Where did you get 12M? I said Sportract has him at 12,9M, and I suggested 40/3. Maybe its too low, I don't know. If it is 16M, then thats obviously too much. Get the second best OL then

Trust me I know our cap situation. I played with that a lot. We can sign Scherff if we make it a priority. And yes I would do that instead of passrusher and CB. Re-sign Bates and Phillips, sign servicable CB, draft WR, OL and CB in first three rounds. That's my plan. I don't think we can get/pay difference maker at DE in FA, so I'd focus on difference maker in OL.

Doesn't matter, Bengals with Burrow will never play in SB again. Good question is how much money are BILLS going to offer Brandon Scherrf. I am hoping that it will be enough to get him here. Top ILO FA would be my highest offseason priority.

Hyperbole much? Beane is not doing nothing. He is building the team in another way than the Rams. I wonder what is your opinion on 13 seconds. I guess you knew we were going to lose before that happened because we didn't trade for Von Miller so we obviously couldn't win the SB. I wonder how is even possible that all 8-12 contenders just don't trade for some difference maker at deadline. They would all win SBs so they didn't have to care what happens in the future.

Because going "all in" does not guarantee that you win the whole thing, that's why. And if you don't, you don't have the trophy and you don't have the team for the next try. You act like the Rams were destined to win it no matter what. If it was that easy, all teams would replicate them. But guess what, only one team can win. It's game of inches. One play (today, in NFCCG or against Tampa) goes other way and now we would be talking how everything what Rams did was for nothing.

Agreed. I don't understand all the talk about this guy. I look at his numbers and age and I have no idea why people are willing to overpay for him. If he comes for "free" then so be it but I don't think that is the case. Otherwise I see a ton of other options how to spend our limited cap space. Best IOL available would be a good start.

Thanks for doing these again. IIRC last year you went into more detail with respect to FA and possible scenarios in each position group. There is one thing I don't get - when you talk about Jaquan Johnson as potential cut candidate due to savings. That sounds weird to me. I don't think you "save" anything when you cut someone making less than a million. You need to replace that guy. Cutting him does not help our cap situation at all. If anything, we NEED to keep guys like him. There is no point in cutting him, unless we sign someone better for same price (which is very unlikely imo), or if we plan to upgrade the position (which doesn't make sense to me since he is a backup who almost never sees the field). I am really confused.

That is really a nice list and I'm sure Beane will sign somebody. I expect some cheaper vet. What I am more interested in is list of available IOL FA.
