Chandler Jones signing with Raiders - 3 years, $52.5 mill

My words exactly! Didn't want him anyway! -
Yeah I know. I meant (i) dead cap from void years and (ii) restructures of active players. In the end both means kicking the can down the road. Past years we've made very few of these moves, since we didn't have to. Now we will have to. I fully trust Beane to be smart, it is just an uncharted territory for this regime imo.
-
As far as I understand it any re-signing will not help with those void years. If we re-sign him whatever we pay him takes another cap space, in addition to existing dead cap (3,4M). I highly doubt that it is even possible to fit McKissic, Jones and Saffold within 8M cap this year, provided that 14/2 Jones number published by agent is remotely accurate. We will revisit this once the numbers are known, I'll find you Thanks for the job you are doing in this thread / FA thread btw.
-
Right now roughly 45M. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/2023/ But it will be less than 15M once all FA contracts, restructures and rookie contracts kick in. Maybe even close to zero. And that will be without Edmunds and hopefully Knox extensions.
-
Hmm why do you think that? McKissic is 7/2, so probably around 2.5M first year. If Jones rumors are correct, he is 14/2, so at least 5M first year. Saffold has a dummy year, but I doubt his cap hit this year is less than 4M. So that is at least 11M together.
-
I trust in Beane. But this is quite a new situation even for him. And the fact is that he already started mortgaging the future more than before (I know it is somewhat inevitable). What I am saying is that we don't know how far is he willing to go. If he is in fact creating space for Jones than we will mortgage the future quite a lot (and I am not saying I am against it).

Well I know §1M per se is not a big deal. But this is not §1M, this is §3,4M. And it adds up. Last year we had void years only for Addison and Sanders. Now it is Haack, Saffold, Settle, Hyde and we are probably not finished. And I also know that cap will increase. So will players' salaries. The question is how much each team restructures and "kicks the can" down the road. I know I need to get used to Bills doing it, I just don't want us to become Saints or Rams (cap wise, not SB wise ). But like I said I am not making big deal out of this. Just saying it doesn't make me happy. I need to see what the prize will be
-
Do you know how exactly that works? Can we at some point decide whether we want 1.1M dead cap each year from 2024 to 2026 or whether we eat all dead cap (3.4M) in 2024?
-
Hmm per sportrac they spread it over 5 years, creating 3 void years with dead cap §1.1M each. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/micah-hyde-12440/ Not sure I like this. But like I said I will judge once FA is over. Well it is not all we are doing. We are also creating lot of dead cap for future years. I am not saying we shouldn't do it but it is important to note.

Maybe but apparently he is also much more expensive. -
I am not saying that he will not come, but bolded is not true when it comes to Jones. We have 3,8M cap space right now, and Milano restructure (which is only one talked about) creates about 4M. That is imo not enough even for cap hits of McKissic (2,5?), DaQuan Jones (5?) and Saffold (6?). These numbers are not known yet, but I guess together they will be something like 12-13M cap hits. So we need to do something more (Beasley cut or another restructure) just to get under the cap until 4pm today. For Jones we need to do much more.
-
Well you got pretty close on the bolded

I've heard that he also doesn't want Edmunds to make big plays, so who knows... -

JD Mckissic to Bills 2 year, 7 million

I understand where you and @GunnerBill are coming from but I disagree. I think you are oversimplifying things and at the same time drawing conclusions from small sample sizes. Chiefs had Mahomes, Tampa had Brady and Rams were quite a unique project. All those teams were good enough overall and were lucky enough to win it all. I don't think any of them showed any universal recipe. If Chiefs have shown us what it takes why has Mahomes only 1 ring in his 4 full seasons so far? If Tampa has shown us what it takes why didn't they repeat with basically the same team? If Rams have shown us what it takes why took it McWay 5 years or so to get there? And why they won't repeat it next year? Do you want us to follow Bengals model with lot of "massive holes" hoping that our top end talent will get hot enough to win it all (which they didn't btw)? I do think you are not being honest with yourself. Do you believe that our loss to Chiefs was inevitable because they had more "difference makes" or we were "too polite"? I think its nonsense. We went toe to toe with them and lost in brutal fashion mostly because of coaching mistakes. If not for those mistakes, we could be very well celebrating SB with our polite guys and lack of difference makers (and tbh, I guess that Gunner would still keep his theory and claim that Oliver or somebody else was actually 4the difference maker ) My point is that there isn't a model or recipe which guarantees success or makes the success significantly more likely. Beane has his style and we were this close to win it all last year. It takes good roster and luck to win a SB. We have former and didn't have latter so far. But it doesn't mean we have to follow somebody's else model. -

Interesting. I know nothing about him but stats are hardly inspiring. And any signing like this makes signing of impactful DE less likely. I'll tell you what I think when FA ends -
