Yeah I love the work he is doing but this is huge miss on Beane's part. $2.6M dead cap for a guy who won't take a snap in Bills uniform is brutal given how tight our cap will be following years. Huge miss.
-
This is brutal from the dead cap point of view, unless I am (or Sportrac is) missing something.
-
And so it begins! Anyway, it's really interesting that they cut him before Blackshear. Curious if it means something...
-
Ok thanks. I think that White won't be ready soon so he goes to PUP. Do you know if he can start training with the team sooner then in W5 (i.e. when not activated from PUP)? As for others, if Doyle needs to be IRed he will temporarily use that punter spot. I don't think they will bother with Stevenson that much, he might be just cut. Morris is questionable - if they wanted him on 53, they will need to find a temporary roster spot. In that case, someone needs to be cut and resigned. But it won't be Jones - he has 600k dead money. Ferguson and Kumerow seem like prime candidates (if Kumerow makes it).
-
You have some kind of obsession with Crowder, don't you?
-
Not much difference between PUP and IR for him, but quite a big for the Bills, if I understand it correctly. If we IR him, he needs to get on original 53. If we PUP him, he doesn't have to, so we can keep one more player (without need to cut him, eat possible dead money and then sign him again). Right?

Our new punter will be (Update pg. 38 - Martin Signed)

Look how the word "loser" is used in the post he was responding to. He was joking. -
I am pretty sure that Edmunds was eligible as a rookie.
-
This is extremely well put even for you Gunner 👍 Agree with everything. Extend those 3, let go Edmunds and Poyer even though I don't mind Edmunds and I love what Poyer brings. Can't pay everyone so we need to choose wisely. And I do believe that Beane thinks in these lines too. Only problem I see that I still don't see how it is possible not to extend Poyer now. Will he really play if they don't agree on something? I hope so but I am skeptic. But it is best for the team imo. Minor thing re Singletary - if he has a good year I'd try to extend him on terms very favorable to Bills. Something really cheap. Maybe he takes it. EDIT: I also think that without this Poyer issue one of Oliver/Knox would be extended through this season. Something like Taron last year. But if Poyer is not extended then it might create some bad blood to extend someone important before him, so Beane might be forced to wait until the season ends. Which will cost us money probably.

Exactly this. We barely had cap space to sign PS guys.
-
Not a bad roster with couple question marks (as with any fan roster). Did you omit Matakevich by accident or do you think he will be cut? I really doubt that. Hell would freeze before Hodgins fetches 4th round. If Beane pulls some magic trick then maybe 6th.

I did this very same exercise with sportrac, using same players as you. Once I cut it to 53 players it shows $4,5M cap space. I have no idea how does that account for Boettger so not sure if I need to substract his $1M. So little different numbers. Biggest differences are Duke Johnson (only $650K savings) and Andre Smith over $1M in savings. No idea how it will work with Smith. My assumption was that we have two options - cut him altogether, or put him on initial 53 then he gets suspended and we gain roster spot (?). But I don't think we can afford doing that (and that we will be willing to do that for him) so I guess he is cut. Correct me pls if I am wrong. Sportrac shows different cap hits than you on most players btw. Anyway, it still shows more cap space than you calculated.

Are you sure about Allen? He was benched last week.
-
OP I know it is stressful to post before Yolo but now when you are relaxed can you pls fix Gesicki's name in title?
-
You quoted old numbers. This year its $207K for cheapest players, so at least $3,3M for full PS. And it will be more since older players get more AFAIK.

Google dozen other articles. That one was wrong when released.
-
They do. I can't find official rules quickly but just google it every NFL article says and it was like that last year. It will be around $4M this year total.
-
If you imply that cutting some players from current top 51 will save us money I think you are wrong. Unless we cut Matakevich or trade Howard we are not saving anything. Poyer situation is really interesting. You say "wait". I fully agree that the best solution for team is not to extend him this year, and probably not to extend him at all. I don't think we can afford him. However, it is hard to believe that he will just play this season without any realistic extension talks. I would really love to know what is Beane doing re Poyer.
-
Not sure if I understand it correctly but if I do I just realized that Boettger on PUP (and any player for that matter) really hurts us from cap perspective, since it is essentially 54th player which needs to be accounted for. Putting Ike on PUP means that Beane needs to create $1M more in cap space to fit him in. It will be less at the end of the day, when he after couple of games replaces his (presumably cheap and non-guaranteed) replacement, but still.
-
Right now we don't have enough cap space once 53man roster kicks in + PS starts to count. Plus we need some space for in season moves - when someone goes to IR for 3 weeks you need to replace him and it costs money. So neither of your options. And fwiw, any extension will likely LOWER cap hit for said player, so no need to create cap space for those. What Beane said today lowers the chance that Poyer is extended before season starts.

OP, why is your thread title saying something completely different than Wawrow's tweet?

Bills Cutdowns (update - down to 80)
No_Matter_What replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
AFAIK he and Boettger ARE on the PUP already. And it is not relevant now. They are included in 81man roster and it needs to be 80.
