I would have signed Bill Belicheck from the Patriots to be HC and then Sean McVay to be OC. I would not have signed a DC, because this is the new NFL and defense doesn't matter. I would have drafted every player that looks to be doing well (at this point in time) I would have signed free agency deals to the best free agents, at middle of the road deals, not overpaying, of course. Then I would have cut half the roster, even though I didn't have anyone to replace them.

Media trying to get McDermott fired.
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And despite all that he got us to 9 wins. A winning records, especially with the talent we had on this team, means that he is doing more things right than wrong. Here is the thing about coaching. Soooo much happens behind the scenes that fans cannot even begin to understand. It's almost narcissistic to think that you can pick apart a handful of plays through the season and think you have a fair or reasonable understanding of what the coach is or isn't. In the end, he got us to the playoffs. Not Dalton. McDermott. Doing what he did for 16 weeks before Dalton's game winning pass. Something the Bills haven't done in 17 years. He gets some benefit of the doubt. -

That is how that works. For us to get in, other teams have to lose. Works the same for every team in the playoffs, every year. This terrible fan base has run every good thing we have had in the last several out of town because they didn't produce immediate results: Marrone, Woods, Goodwin, Watkins, etc. Maybe a little patience wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. They guy has proven he can win under horrid circumstances. He deserves to build HIS way, regardless of how you feel about it. -

McBeane Confidence

Yeah, but that talent wasn't getting the Bills to the playoffs. Dareus and Ragland have drifted into obscurity. Dareus contributes, but he definitely isn't the engine of the Jags. Glenn is ok. Ragland is on a terrrrrible KC defense, and Taylor is on the bench. As far as the numbers, $7 million is a nothing burger. And none of your analysis even touches on long term cap implications (you know, the actual point of creating cap space). Sure, we are eating dead cap now, but we traded mediocre talent away for cap freedom moving forward. This is a mindbogglingly bad argument. -
Trade for DeVante Parker???
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to bigbuffs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait, why are we trading for a guy on the last year of his contract in a year we cannot make the playoffs? Also, if you don't want to pay him next year, why bother picking him up at all? -
The True reason to fire McDermott
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to cgg716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He did what he had to do to get a QB and get the teams cap in order. You don’t have to like it, and you can even think it’s the wrong approach, but to say it’s evidence he believes in ground and pound and not throwing the ball is just wrong. -

It took cutting half the team to get us out of cap hell, but you advocate that they should have resigned Woods and Goodwin, two WR who up to that point had greatly underachieved in Buffalo, all while we did not have the QB of the future? No rational person could look at that and think it was a smart move. This ENTIRE board pounded the table not only for Goodwin to be let go but for him to be CUT (because that is how the board operates- anyone who doesn't immediately contribute needs to be cut). We were NEVER going to be able to keep all those guys. They traded Sammy so they could get their QB. Sammy (the #2 receiver in KC) wanted more than we were going to give him. We got great value from what was an asset that would walk away. All that aside, WRs don't mean anything without a QB. This really all brings us back to the true lesson of having Sammy, Woods, Goodwin and Hogan on the same team: that it means NOTHING without a QB. Those guys, with good or average QB plays, have become stars. That is because of the QB, nothing else. The first step is the QB. The rest falls into place afterwards. Thats what the Eagles did, that is what the Rams did. Why is all of a sudden incompetence for us to do the same thing? -

When they used those words. Thats when they made it clear. Also, Goodwin and Woods weren't here by the time McDermott got hired. I started to go point by point, but my god this one of the craziest posts I have ever read. -

He was the best quarterback in the preseason, far and away. At that point it was easy to dismiss what happened last year as a "one off," especially based on his preseason performance. We had a vet QB, and was a distant third. I can't understand why we would keep him on the roster when he was playing that poorly. -

JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was fine with the plan at the start of the year. We were going to sit Allen, start Peterman (who had clearly won the starting job in preseason), and then continue to build. I don't think they cared about forcing the talent issue on offense because 1) they didn't think theyd have to use Allen much, if it at all, and 2) they could worry about adding talent in the following years through free agency and the draft. All of these arguments assume that winning this year was important. It just wasn't. -

JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean, when they make the sort of investment in QB that they did this year, and still think they don't care about offense, there just isn't much to be said. I think its pretty obvious they care and they think that drafting the QB is the first step. -
McBeane Confidence
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So now you are changing your argument. First you said they sucked because they don't believe its a passing league. Now you are saying they cannot pick competent offensive players. I don't have an answer for you. They are building the team their way. They have decided not to invest in the offense yet. I am not sure why, but by all appearances it looks like they believe you start with the QB and work your way out. Besides, what have they traded away? Watkins? Glenn? Dawkins has been as good as Glenn. Watkins is now a #2 WR. -

1. That is wildly untrue. This is why hyperbole is so toxic. "Every single time they talk." I mean, really, when they were saying that it is a QB driven league and you have to get the passing game going, they weren't saying running game and defense comes first. This kind of garbage is how false narratives start. 2. They have made clear that QB and the passing game is most important. 3. Context matters. We do not have a QB. We have to rely on RB and defense until we get a franchise QB. That does not mean that philosophically they don't understand that QB needs to come first. -

JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So we just making up stuff now? McBeane have both repeatedly said that this is a QB driven league and it is the most important position on the field. Having to run all the time because we don't have a QB is one thing, but they certainly do not think its the way to get where they need to go. If they did they would have kept Tyrod. -
The True reason to fire McDermott
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to cgg716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So because he isn't scoring a lot of points he doesn't want to? He has said numerous times that QB is the most important position on the field and that it is a pass first league. At the end of the day, we do not have a QB. There really isn't much he can do with what he has. Now, you can see if was ill prepared for the season, that is fair. Although it misses the mark since it was clearly a rebuilding season, but it is still fair. -

Spot on. Truth is you have to pay to get guys here. We all love Western New York, but the rest of the county does not. That is why I don't get on the team for overpaying for guys. It just is what it is. -
The season mistake was Teddy Bridgewater
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to betop's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is something that gets skipped too often. There is a reason Teddy is bouncing around. I suspect he may not have recovered as well as he had hoped and needed a good deal of time to really get back to starting form. -
