  1. You know, I don't know all the facts of the case, so I'm not going to say its impossible. But the DNA in her mouth doesn't mean it wasn't sexual assault. I'd be curious to hear all the evidence. Are there any in depth articles out there?
  2. He was not found guilty. That does not mean he was falsely accused. That just means the state couldn't prove he did it. Now, if he ends up signing an NFL contract, and he gets some money in his pocket, you can bet that his accuser will file a civil lawsuit. That means more discovery on what he was up to in college, and a high likelihood is found liable (because it is a much lower threshold than in criminal court). It would be a terrible idea to bring this guy in.
  3. How many free agents go on to make the pro bowl? Sure, they can contribute, but free agents rarrrrrrely so drastically affect a teams play it makes more than a 1 - 1.5 game difference. Not to mention every team in the league is bringing in free agents. Sure, rookies can be good, but the rookies who tend to play the best are almost never the guys picked at the beginning of the year to be contributors. Not to mention every team in the league picks of 6 to 8 rookies that they think will make the "difference." It all evens out.
  4. Those things rarely, if ever, affect a season's outlook. Every team gets the benefit of FA and the draft.
  5. I can almost guarantee they could care less about the 40's or any other drill.
  6. I understand he has a big contract, but at the end of the day, what are the odds we get a player with that much talent in the third round? We have the space, this is not a terrible way to use it.
  7. But why, I thought the Browns had a decent amount of cap space?
  8. He was ranked top ten by PFF early in his career, and then got hit by the injury bug. After that, when he was on the field, he was never very good. He was worth the First Round pick, but you never know when injuries are going to start piling up for a guy. Yeah but Davis was old and on the tail end of his career regardless of injury. I was never excited about Davis. Kevin Johnson is a young guy who, if healthy can be a really good player. Johnson has a shot at making some noise. Davis never did.
  9. Yeah, that's fair. The only caveat I would make is that Funchess is the only guy you can get on a 1 year prove it deal. I think the others will require multi year deals. Looking forward, we do not have as much free cap space as it looks now.
  10. Being smart with FA money means being smart about the position you are in. We are in a position of having a ton of money and needing, frankly, warm bodies. When it comes to bringing in FA WRs we need to pay big. Luckily, we can pay big, so we can also afford to over pay.
  11. $80 million of cap space and you are advocating we be judicious with it on a contract for Funchess for...the sake of principal?
  12. First, those are all things WRs do better than about every TE in the league. But thats beside the point. One has nothing to do with the other. Signing Dwayne doesn't mean we aren't still looking for other TEs.
  13. And again, the only question you are asking is how many yards they caught? Do you not see how circular your point is? I want an elite TE, for sure, but I also want guys behind that elite TE that can contribute.
  14. What you are really asking for is an elite TE. Any TE that is a good blocker and is good for 600+ yards is elite. There are maybe 5-8 guys in the league that qualify. Even if our number 1 TE qualifies, we still need TEs behind him. The point is there is absolutely no reason not to bring a guy like Allen if he excels at an important part of the game.
  15. Yeah, but you clearly care about only the pass catching numbers. If blocking doesn't matter, just bring in a large wide receiver.
  16. If fans only see the value of TE in his ability to catch balls, they should just be looking for large WRs. TEs catch and block. Completely ignoring how he blocks, and ripping a TE because he doesn't have enough catches, seems completely ignorant.
  17. It is a media myth that guys "rise" or "fall" because of the combine. 40 times and 3 cone drills could not matter less. The media obsess over them, though, because it reaffirms the importance of their coverage. What is really happening is media members are spending enough time around coaches and GMs that they are starting to figure out where guys really fall on NFL GMs boards. Its a process of self correction. The media, guys who have no idea how to scout a player, are simply learning what GMs really think of these guys. Thus, through the media's lens, it looks like guys are "rising" and "falling," when really, those guys have already been in that position from the get go.
  18. Quibbling over whether the number is 21 or 25 is really bizarre. Its almost as if they think that McD says 21 is the maximum, not the minimum. As if they think he will tell his offense once they get to 21 that they can stop scoring. Offenses take time to build. Especially when you are starting with a new QB. McD knows that, and I think every one in the organization knows that. As an aside, that is part of the reason I think McD will not face a hot seat for a few years. If he was worried about his job security within 4 years, he would not have drafted the rawest QB prospect in year 2.
  19. Stellar take. OP put a ton of work into the post, and it was well done, but at the end of the day, you can write a whole book on the topic, it is still going to be completely absurd to think Zay is going to get cut.
  20. TJ Graham didn't put up anywhere near the numbers Zay has put up.
  21. Its fun to have these sort of thought experiments, but its never going to happen. He is on his rookie deal, it costs as little as it can to keep him. Plus, he is in his third year, will almost certainly continue to improve, and has produced way more than any other street FA would. There is just no incentive to cut him.
  22. No body rises or falls at the combine, excluding injuries or unknown pre-existing medical conditions. What is happening is the media spends enough time around GMs and scouts that they are starting to get a feel about what they think about these guys, and thus have a more accurate image of where they may go in the draft.
  23. Your'e mis-describing what a straw man argument is. A straw man is when you inaccurately describe someone else's argument to make it look stupid. And I was not equating white supremacy with infidelity. They were thought experiments that highlighted the flaws in his logic by replacing one bad act for another, illustrating that bad acts were a reason to dislike a player regardless of on-field performance. Way back at the start I prefaced my dislike for him with "None of this should disqualify him from playing football." But, the type of fan I am, I don't like players on the team that are scum bags. So would I prohibit him from playing? No. Would I want him on my team? Never.
  24. I don't think fans should get that kind of pass. If you found out Jim Kelly was a white supremacist, would you feel differently about your fandom? Do you think it would be OK to be a fan (with all the support that entails) if the guy actively promoted racism (or something like that)? I think that just because we like them as fans, it does not mean they should get a pass for all types of egregious conduct. And I, personally, am allowed to not be fan of someone if they act like a scum bag. You are welcome to disagree, I literally never said you couldn't. Listen, real talk. I'm not going to engage with you any more because I genuinely do not think you are bright enough to have a decent conversation. This comment, for example. You think you have made a good point. But you do not understand the nuances of what is being discussed here such that you can't even understand why this is so dumb.
