Expectations for Josh Allen this year
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the best response. -
If you think that the most important part of TEs play is their ability play receiver, you are going to hate Lee Smith. If you think TEs ability to block is as important, if not more, than you will love Lee Smith. Last time he was here, half the fan base wanted to see him cut. But he has never had a problem finding work, and always for more money than this fan base would expect. I have always thought that Lee Smith, and guys like him that are better blockers than anything else, are illustrative of just how much NFL fans do not understand the TE position. I think there is a perception that TEs are just tall receivers. But they aren't; they are so much more.

I think something that is being missed is that this signals Daboll's intention to commit to the deep passing game. Sure, Lee Smith is great for run blocking. But what I really see is that they are committed to having a lot of max-protection. This works with the run game, obviously, since it is mixed with play action. I really don't think having Lee Smith on the field signals a guaranteed run play.

D&C's Maiorana Projects The Final 53
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is there ever a season where this (or the old BBMB) board thinks that the team will keep one or two more WRs then they actually do? -
That's fair. They could push Zay down the roster. He definitely will be on the team, but he could be pushed down. That said, those guys are still undrafted free agent, 99% of whom fail to even make the roster. Despite their special circumstances, there are guys every year that have similar special circumstances (Rogers, Striker, etc.) and despite fan hype, they still don't even make the team. The overwhelming odds are that is what will happen here.

I think he has some flaws, for sure. But he has made some great plays. He is our best zone receiver, and I think he runs above average results (like I said, perspective). He had drops, but they significantly decreased from year one to two. The tape is much kinder to Zay than you are representing, and I think that is validated by the fact that the Bills didn't even have WR as a need on their draft board. If you go in expecting him to be a WR1, you are going to be disappointed. My expectations are somewhere between WR2-3. I think he is right on point there.

You're missing the difference between what will happen and what you think should happen. In the event they go 8-8 or 9-7, neither will be fired. I think they shouldn't but reasonable minds can disagree. Your opinion on what you think should happen is an outlier, and certainly not representative of what will likely happen.

A lot of red flags in that group. -
Bills games broadcasted in Syracuse?
JoshAllenHasBigHands replied to SAFTB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It took me 7 years to get out of Syracuse. I cringe even typing that. I am not exaggerating when I say the OP should do everything possible to avoid going there. -
I mean, he was cut in the middle of the year last year. Its not that outside the realm of possibility. He had an awesome second half of the season, but for the rest of his professional and college career he has been an absolute no show. But yeah, if he continues on that torrid pace, he will see the field a ton. I just think his skill set is a little too similar to Brown. He is a bit duplicative. Zay's are unique to every other receiver on the roster.
-
Well, first, I think there will essentially be 3 receivers on the field at all times. Brown will probably get 90%, Beasley 75%, and Foster will get about 50-75%. That leaves about 50% plus snaps for Zay. I tend to think Zay will see the field more than Foster, but that is because I don’t think Foster has the skills to be any thing than a one trick deep threat. That may change though.
-
Lol. Not for nothing, but you have put a lot of good work into this thread. You have probably made it the most enjoyable on this board. You are definitely wrong. Zay will be on the team. He will get more than 50% of snaps. And I’ll be all in letting you know how wrong you were. But I respect the hell out of the work you put in here. Props man.
